First no criticism for the pizza makers. It's Friday night and they were fast but overwhelmed with orders. My mistake is I placed an internet order on a Friday night. Clearly in person orders get priority and the line was long and steady. People place their order and get served in about 10 minutes. My order took much longer and I although I checked in I wasn't called when my order was ready as were other people. My bad, I should have been more aggressive. Results were cold pizza after a 45 minute wait. Think better strategy is to place an order at the counter and ask for to go boxes after getting served. read more

Very delicious! This was my first time ordering here. I am a huge Meat Lover so I ordered their Mad Dogs pizza and it was very very tasty. The star of the show was undoubtedly their flat crust. Horrible quality control. The cheese pizza for my son literally had a few sprinkles of cheese. It was mostly crust and sauce. The Dominic pizza also has hardly any cheese on it. Pizza is a wonderful comfort food. The atmosphere at Mod pizza is clean and efficient everything you could ask for during COVID. Social distancing is practice well with the standing distance marked clearly on the floor. The staff all wore masks and wore gloves. I noticed the good practice of hand washing after all glove changes, among the staff. The pizza was different, not bad but different from what I'm use to having. There are a lot of ingredients available to choose from for your toppings. Everything looks fresh and healthy. When it comes to comfort food you want to have enough to eat the next day for breakfast. I don't think you will if get your pizza here. Most people ordered one pizza for each person in their party. The sizes are small, the don't pile on the toppings so you can stay hungry after buy here. Let's start with the Covid-19 precautions first. The employees were gloved and masked. The tables were well spaced. However, there was no hand sanitizer and strangers in line would get rather close. They were right next to each other because they were distracted while picking out toppings. The people making the pizzas need to stop pushing the pizzas right next to each other. People follow their pizza. We love the pizza topping choices because; if you pick the right combination of toppings, your pizza will always be great tasting. No one in the DC area has more variety of unlimited toppings than Mod pizza. The quality of the toppings is very good. My wife and I picked the following ingredients: tomato sauce, pesto sauce, sausage, pepperoni, mince garlic, mushrooms, onions, corn, green peppers, roasted red peppers, avocados, olives, Mozzarella cheese and oregano. It was incredibly well rounded and savory. The key to a well rounded flavor profile is to pick ingredients in at least 3 flavor categories. Sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami are your 5 flavors. For example, olives are salty, corn is sweet, red pepper is sweet, cheese and meats are umami, pepperoni is salty and umami, etc. Umami is roughly equivalent to savory. If you love salty, pick salty toppings, but counter it with something that is a little sweet. You'll be amazed at how good it will taste compared to just salty. Pick the right combination and you get a great pizza. We found out that their only dessert was called, No Name Cake. Looked like a Hostess Ding Dong. The dining room, kitchen and restrooms were clean. The service was accommodating and friendly. Even though there was a line of people, the pizza didn't take long. . Great pizza. Try the Tristan on a cauliflower crust - delicious! (I actually prefer their cauliflower crust and don't mind paying extra for it - it's THAT good!) Only drawback I can think of is it can be extremely loud due to the cement walls, floor and open space. I've learned to go during non-peak times. I have tried MOD pizza at several locations. (All 5 star) Very surprised about the consistency of their pizza. I got the "Mad Dog" ... extra meat, including bacon, Asiago cheese, and grilled red pepper. They will make it any way you want it!!! Super value... keeps me coming back for more. This location is very bright and comfortable. I really like the metal tops on the tables. They have a larger oven that I have not seen in other locations. While the pizza was cooked to near perfection, it seemed to cook for a much longer time than usual (4-5 min?) While this is not the best pizza I have ever had... It is way .. way ... up there! Stopped in for dinner tonight pulled in the parking lot and the line was LONG at least 25-30 people in line. The line moves along pretty quick as long as people know what they want when it is there turn to order but there is always those few that never know what they want. Again there were guys with beards handling food and tonight there is a girl rolling the dough without gloves on everyone else had gloves on that I noticed. See pictures. Pizza is always tasty, love the concept. Why a 3 star??! Stop skimping on the toppings! If I ask for pepperoni, I expect a few slices on each slice rather than 1.23488. And the most frustrating part of the visit today was the lack of a greeting or even an acknowledgement that we were in line. It's great that business is strong with mobile orders, but to be the only ones in line and stand there while they started 5 online orders without a simple "hi, we are crazy busy but I'll be right with you" is a pretty core standard of service. I liked the restaurant when it first opened but the pizza has gone downhill since then. Underwhelming. There are many of these conceptual pizza joints such as this popping up across the nation; Blaze, PizzaRev, Pieology, and others. Some of these places are better than the others. Woefully, Mod Pizza just falls flat and hits the bottom in several ways. The service - was lacking as the folks that worked there seemed to just be going through the motions and you felt as if you were inconveniencing them by asking for more toppings. The crust - It honestly looked like a tortilla when they put it on the plate. It came out flat and flavorless. A little salt will go a long way! The toppings - Again, flavorless. Everything just seemed pre-made and packaged and lacked any real kick for the pizza. This also includes the sauce. The Location - Excellent location right out front of Harris Teeters and next to a Starbucks so plan your parking accordingly as you may get locked in by people waiting for their orange mocha frappaccino. Overall, it was just food, nothing exciting. I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. read more

We've been three times so far. The first time our food was great--no complaints. There was a man pulling pizzas out of the oven who wasn't too friendly when I stood waiting for 5 mins to ask for a to go box. He hardly looked at me and when he grabbed a box and handed it to me. Made it seem like I was in the wrong to ask him for a box. The second time we went was good, except my husband's pizza was cooked on the thin crust, not thick. The staff was friendly and fixed it right away. This third trip tonight (12/23) was a bit worse. My husband stopped by close to closing and ordered our pizzas and Cesar salad to go. We live about 15 minutes away so by the time he got home they were closed and I couldn't call to address the problem. The entire bottom of my thin crust pizza was black and burnt. I've had the edges of the crust burnt--as it is cooked in a brick oven--but the entire bottom of the pizza has never been burnt before. I was only able to eat one slice, after peeling off the bottom of the already thin crust. My husband's pizza was burnt in splotches throughout, but because he had a thicker crust he didn't mind as much--plus he was starving since it was 10 PM and ate it anyway. I wanted to message the location directly, but their Facebook page and website won't allow it. I gave three stars, since the first two visits were pretty decent, but this time was just not good. I'd like to love this new little pizza place. Hopefully they will see this and offer a free pizza on my next visit, since I wasn't able to enjoy this one. :( read more

It appears there are no managers to run the place or maybe inexperienced managers? Foods: it's great to be able to customize our pizzas. There are "farm to table" and "healthy" menu options. Fair in prices. Better pizzas than Harris Teeter. Much, much, much better pizzas than the ones sold at both Mama Lucia in Calvert County. Con: sometimes, the crust get burnt. I mean, BURNT.
