Modi is on the ground level of Salesforce Park. (I gotta say, after all the years of working downtown, I miss coming down to Salesforce Park where I'd walk almost everyday.) Modi is Italian-Mexican cuisine and I wasn't sure how it was gonna go, but have no fear. It was a great experience. BFF & I came in last Saturday just after 3pm, which is an odd time, but it's how our day worked out. It wasn't busy, but I appreciated that because it gave us the opportunity to really see the place in its full color and decor. We were seated in a corner by the window, next to the bar. There is an Instagram-able wall feature that reads "Vivi Differente." The space is bright and colorful with traditional elements in a modern setting. We took full advantage of doing a tasting of our own menu choices, as it also happened to fall during Happy Hour, so we were given that menu, though we were also offered a dinner menu if we wanted. (We didn't. We went with the happy hour menu!) Here's what we ordered - and it was a lot for just the two of us, but we had our reasons ;) - Aztec Caesar Salad - this was a Caesar salad but the "croutons" were actually crispy polenta. This worked out because we both hate croutons, lol - Birria Lasagna - This was interesting. It's lasagna but made with birria beef. - Trompitos Al Pastor - Skewers with al pastor pork and pineapple. Comes with three skewers. The presentation was lovely, but we agreed it lacked flavor. The consistency was on point, however. The pork was tender. - Street Corn Romano - This was a good vegetarian option for the table. It's sort of like elote, but instead of a full cob, the corn is cut in pieces which makes it shareable. - Tacos Capesante Funghii (seared scallops + wild mushroom) - Another good vegetarian option. Good flavor. I appreciate the creativity. Drinks: - Prosecco - can't go wrong w/ a glass of Prosecco - Limoncello Spritz 00 (mocktail: limoncello 0% alcohol, prosecco 0% alcohol, soda water) - This was light and refreshing. Good option if you're looking for a non-alcoholic beverage, but next time I'm getting a real cocktail for flavor. Service was stellar. Oana was our server initially. Her shift ended at 4pm, but we were handed over to another server whose name I wish we got! He and another server (who worked behind the bar and also whose name we didn't get) were so friendly and accommodating. We were also offered a shot of Limoncello which is many times served after a meal for digestion. We accepted! :) There was only one bathroom for the restaurant, which is a bummer to have to wait to use the toilet or to even wash your hands. I was able to go - it is a clean, large bathroom - but bestie had to wait. We decided to head out and use the restrooms upstairs at the park since we were going up there anyway. I'll be back! P.S. A coworker told me that she had tried this place a couple times when it had just opened, but didn't have a great experience. I went today for a work lunch and had a very nice experience. The host and servers were great and we tried some really nice dishes. Enjoyed the focaccia with avocado butter, the ahi tuna mini tostadas and my favorite, the Elote corn and ricotta ravioli-delicious! A spot with Mexican and Italian fusion? It's a dream come true! This spot was super welcoming to us on their patio when we were in a bit of a time crunch. They were packed but we didn't feel rushed and our server was very helpful. The overall vibe of the place is elevated but chill, and the small touches like the dishes and decor make it memorable. It was really hard for me to choose what to eat because these are two of my favorite food types. I ended up getting the arroz mexicano bowl which was super good. This is an interesting concept of an Italian Mexican fusion restaurant. Think mostly Mexican themes and flavors but with some pasta and pizza. We ordered the corn ribs, wagyu tacos, and the pizza diabla. All the dishes were very tasty but also very small for the price, except for the pizza which was pizza sized. The corn ribs for example, I think was like a half a corn cob total for $18. Dessert we tried their chocolate mousse which was phenomenal. And I don't even like chocolate! Service was pleasant. Mexican x Italian fusion?! Count me in! I have never heard of this type of fusion cuisine before and so happy we stumbled upon this. Well... we were recommended it by another restaurant that wasn't able to seat 7 of us... and we're so happy they did! I was in town for a conference and we broke out into smaller lunch groups. While our original place didn't pan out (it was a to-go and a small space), after a few tries, we were recommended Modí! They had both indoor and outdoor seating. While it was a bit chilly outside, we decided to be seated outside since it was a outdoor/indoor type of seating. They had heaters and it was in an enclosure but with all the natural lighting with a greenhouse sort of effect. We were seated right away, even during the lunch rush. Our servers were super friendly and prompt, giving us recommendations for what to get. Our table got a few different things, from chips and guac to some pizzas and salads. What a unique restaurant! Italian-Mexican fusion in a gorgeous setting. They do have "GF/V/VG" markers for menu items that are gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan but they aren't all accurate so make sure to check with the staff! I initially wanted the caesar salad since it was labeled as vegetarian but our waiter checked for me and it does have anchovies. Always good to look out for yourself if you have a dietary restriction because the menu isn't always right. I ended up getting the Fiesta Jicama Salad. Once inside, I guess he could tell that the noise level was too high for me and he suggested that I might be more comfortable outside where it was quieter. I asked for his favorites. Came to Modi with the intent to try restaurant week but we actually ended up just ordering from the regular menu. The ambiance inside Modi is really nice. I really liked the indoor-outdoor balance with all the green and gold accents. Upon sitting down, our server came over quickly but was maybe a little over-eager with the water and ended up crashing into the water glasses shattering them! He picked up all the big pieces and returned to service but it felt odd needing to ask him to wipe the table because there were glass shards everywhere too. After looking over the menu, we collectively agreed to order from the regular menu. We started with the Al pastor cauliflower, the truffle queso, and the focaccia with avocado butter. The avocado butter was very creamy and dreamy. The queso was very rich but tasty. The cauliflower was just ok in my opinion. For mains we did the birria lasagna, the bone marrow risotto, and the elote ravioli. I thought the birria lasagna was tasty but a little dry. The marrow risotto was probably my favorite with a table side presentation and all, but that was also extremely rich. It was hard to have more than a few bites sadly despite the flavor being excellent. Some acid would go a long way. The elote ravioli was a little bland to me compared to the other two. Overall, interesting fusion. I definitely think a return is probable but probably not at the top of my list for now. read more

Came here for the Valentines pre fixe menu which also happens to be my wife's birthday. The restaurant is clean and has nice style. The host was friendly and wished my wife a happy birthday. Our server was friendly but didn't know much about the pre fixe menu. Our salads were good, tasted fresh. For appetizers, we got the oysters and ceviche. Both were excellent and hit the spot. The only problem so far was the wait between each item being served. It was about 15-20 minutes between each and we ordered everything up front. Then our main dishes, the steak and chicken both came out lukewarm at best. Even our sides were mostly cold. We would've sent them back but we didn't have time because we had show tickets and it had already been 1.5 hours and our dessert was still waiting for us. We ended up taking them to go and even that took longer than it should. Overall, the worst Valentines / Birthday dinner we have ever had. Food: queso fundido 8/10 - the queso had truffle mushrooms and was not bad with the toasties. I would've preferred chips or bread Focaccia 9/10 - this was really good and I loved the sauces that it came with, especially the spicy one Cauliflower al pastor 6/10 - a bit too sweet for me Birria lasagna 10/10 - this was really good. Did a small team event here and the staff were so accommodating and welcoming. Definitely a pretty cool vibe shaded and dog friendly right outside of Salesforce Park. The menu was a little bit eclectic, because it definitely mixes Italian and Mexican, but the flavor combinations are pretty good. The lasagna is definitely worth getting and I do think that one of my favorite things was that spicy cauliflower! I'd been looking forward to going to Modi for a while (even before it officially opened and I saw it show up on IG) and was finally able to visit the restaurant for dinner with my husband. TBH this wasn't our first attempt. We had previously stopped by when their website said they were open (with no signage in-person to indicate otherwise), Google Maps said they were open, and Yelp said they were open, but they weren't. That experience could have been handled better, but thankfully this visit was smoother. Reservations: I checked online (Resy) earlier in the day to get a sense of how busy the evening might be. There were a lot of time slots available still so I decided to walk-in, and it turned out fine. Despite it being busy because of a nearby conference, we were able to be seated right away in their "outdoor" area which was sheltered and heated... and lively. Ambiance: The environment was quite loud with so many people there and it was tricky to carry on a conversation, but we made do. The decor was really nice, including the intricate details on the table tops, and the glassware, dishes, etc. seemed like nice quality - I don't usually notice those types of things but these stood out. Service: The service was somewhat slow that evening, which is understandable due to how busy it was. Whenever we were able to chat with the staff though (including the host at the front who seated us), they were all very friendly and helpful and accommodating. Food: I was most looking forward to the birria lasagna. It's a great concept and was a very tasty dish, but by the time it was served at the table it was cold unfortunately. The risotto with bone marrow was very good too and was served hot. For dessert, we had the churro tiramisu based on a rec from the server - it was a unique fusion of flavours to try and one serving was large enough for two people. Great amount of seafood and really well balanced. Highly recommend!! Also ordered beef tartare con uovo fritto after seeing a lot of reviews. It was good with a nice presentation, but pretty standard overall. For mains, the spaghetti chorizo and clams was divine. Squid ink spaghetti worked perfectly with the clams and spicy chorizo. Ambience is 4 stars, food closer to 3 stars. We came on a weekend evening with a reservation but it wasn't very crowded. The ambience is nice, upscale Mexican Italian fusion. We were started on chips and a delicious green salsa though I wish we got bread as a starter instead as I had seen in some other reviews (guess the Italian vs Mexican starter depends on the time of year). We ordered the tacos capesente e funghi ($20 scallop and mushroom tacos), spaghetti chorizo and clams ($30) and pizza holbox ($34 lobster and octopus pizza). The tacos came in a portion of 2 tacos in corn tortillas but we were surprised that it was filled with succulant chunks of scallops. The mushrooms were scant but delicious and the accompanying cole slaw did not have a mayonnaise taste so we overall enjoyed them. I really wanted to like the spaghetti more since it was squid ink and the clams were cooked well, but the chorizo and the whole dish itself was super super salty unfortunately and that saltiness did soak into the clams. The pizza holbox was huge! We could have just split this pizza between the two of us and been full. The crust was good and charred. The lobster and octopus were OK, but the biggest disappointment was the entire middle of the pizza was pretty soggy even though it was thin crust. Overall, we still had a good dining experience and it was a very interesting/worthwhile experience to try a fusion place. Let's preface with fusion food not being my go to, but I thought I'd give this place a chance. To start, the chips and salsa were highly indicative of the food to come. The chips were stale and salsa was just ok. Ordered the Caesar salad. I thought the cotija cheese was a good compliment, but the polenta croutons were horrible. The dressing wasn't bad but it felt like it was on the lettuce for a while and missing its crunch. Got the highly talked about birria lasagna. I took one bite and was done. But as we were finishing our dinner, the waiter became scarce and when we finally got his attention and put in another drink order, it took about 15-20 minutes to come in. Kind of a buzzkill having to wait for so long. On to the food! Lobster Tacos: These were nice and meaty, my husband loved these & he gets a side of the chipotle sauce to dip them in. We were one of the first few guests, but the place filled up by the top of the hour. Service was alright. The servers were friendly, but we had minimal interaction with them. We had to flag a server down to close out our tab. Our food came out in a timely manner though. I got an Aztec Caesar salad with carne asada, which was amazing. the dishes were hit or miss, some of the fusion makes for odd combos. service was pretty good. i might be back and give it another try.

Boyfriend and I were intrigued by the fusion. I think this place is relatively new, and you can definitely tell. While everyone was pleasant, there is an air of chaos in this place. We got to the restaurant and were told we could be seated at a table, but on the way there were switched to the bar. When we turned to the bar it was full, so they had us stand to the side until the bar cleared out. The bar staff (particularly the man with the beard) were extremely attentive. All mistakes were resolved swiftly because of their service. They made our night worthwhile! The food was a mixed bag. We enjoyed the tuna tostadas, but the al pastor pizza dough had a slightly funky aftertaste. While the birria lasagna was delicious, we had to send it back initially because it came to us completely cold. The second one came very quickly thanks to the bar staff that I mentioned. We ordered the tiramisu churros for dessert. They were pretty doughy (likely frozen) and did not really deliver on the tiramisu side. All in all, would probably redo this place as a happy hour spot.
