I took my daughters here to get their drinks and desserts and also to work on their homework. I like how the café has plenty of room and tables for its customers. The staff were very friendly. My daughter just learned how to use dollars. I asked her to order her own drink from the menu and find the price that fit her budget. The cashier was very patient and nice, helping my daughter and explaining her options and the total cost with tax. I like how the staff were super friendly. Drinks and cream puffs were delicious. We'll definitely come back. read more

Food was pretty bad, the mochi is just like where you can get from the grocery market, the mochi skin is so hard, would not recommend.

Went here a couple weeks ago to get the green tea shaved ice and a beard papa cream puff thing. Both of them were pretty good. I think it was a bit pricy but not terrible. I think I would have preferred the snow over the ice, but the green tea shaved ice wasn't bad either. I think the reason I give this 3 stars is mainly because it wasn't mind blowing or anything extraordinary from other snow/shaved ice places. Overall, definitely worth a try. I'm definitely going to be back to try some of the other menu items. read more

Mochi - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Irvine, California

First time trying this place on Friday and I can say in confidence I will not be back here.. it's overpriced and while it's nice and cute and spacious inside, the amount of dessert you get doesn't justify the price point. $6 for an ube lava cake that was so tiny it looked like a dallop of purple cake inside a small to go container. The mango milk snow was just okay. I mean - $16 for a small order - and the sweet mango cream/milk didn't even get to the bottom of the tiny bowl. The service I have to say is just okay too. Nothing too special about it. They greet you, they answer your questions and of course, the monitor asks for a tip LOL Anyway, if you're in Irvine anyway and are looking for a great dessert place, I think Meet Fresh is waaaaaay better than this place so I would drive just about 3 miles down and I'll be much more satisfied for less money. read more

Good hang out spot with plenty of seating space. Not your typical coffee shop as their primary offerings are clearly the ice cream, Beard Papa cream puffs, and BTS merch. Everything is okay but just on the expensive side. They've served Beard Papa's here for quite a while now but it's only good when fresh. Ice cream selection is decent. Location makes it convenient to catch up with others in a local spot, but there are definitely better desserts elsewhere. read more

Perhaps they should rename to "Mishmosh" to have a more thorough name. Mochi is a dessert shop tucked in a little corner next to Daiso's Irvine location. I was walking through the latter when I spotted the former on Yelp, and I felt that I could handle some dessert despite being between hefty meals. I managed to locate the shop after walking around the projecting corner of Daiso. Cream puffs (from Beard Papa's, possibly a different business contained in the same space), sweet and savory taiyaki variants, Dippin Dots, and teas were on the menu, but I didn't try any of those. However, I did grab one of the ice cream-filled mochis ($2), which was labeled as Yuzu but ended up being Yuzu Coconut. The mochi exterior was soft but chewy. I did get both flavors strongly, but I would have strongly preferred just having the Yuzu and not having to deal with misbranding. As for the flavors, they have a lot of variety, but I'm not sure that the quality is any better than what you'll find in a supermarket freezer aisle. I also couldn't resist trying some of the gelato selections, and I got a couple of flavors. Well, I would've grabbed more, but their only size option is two scoops for $4.95, whether it's a cup or cone. I picked out a cone of passion fruit sorbet and espresso gelato. The passion fruit tasted just like a sweetened version of the actual fruit, but the espresso (which I only chose due to mom's desire) had more of that not-quite-coffee candy flavor and wasn't very creamy in texture. When I asked, an employee stated that the gelato was by for them by somebody else, but she didn't state who was responsible. I did kinda like what I ate, but I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit Mochi, so I can't give it 4 stars. Maybe 3.5, but rounded down. read more

I was very torn whether or not to give this place 3 or 5 stars, but considering what the place actually has control over, I think it deserves 5 stars. Staff has always been attentive and friendly, and the pastries are delicious! I haven't been able to find another place that serves croissant taiyaki like they do - they add a touch of sugar to the top of the croissant, which adds a crispy, subtle-sweet that tastes AMAZING with the savory fillings (try the ham n' cheese!). Beard Papa's cream puffs never disappoint, either, and I typically grab a box whenever I'm going to visit family. Now, ambiance. I sometimes come here for a comfy place to work on my graphic design projects, typically in the afternoon on weekdays. Recently, however, I made the mistake of coming on a Friday night with friends. Although we found a table pretty quick, the cafe was full of families with screaming children -- not crying, just screaming for fun while the adults ignored them, yelling at each other to carry on their conversation over the noise. Now, I'm not some crotchety hermit - I enjoy a lively venue! But I had to fully roar at my friends to be heard. And it wasn't just a single family causing the ruckus, but four separate groups. Mochi's staff obviously can't control who dines there, but I wanted to throw this warning out there. Are you the type of person who would like to enjoy a pastry in relative peace? Maybe avoid this place on weekend evenings. Are you a parent who refuses to coach their child on how to use their inside voice? Please go to the park instead. :) read more

Went here with some of my friends and split a shaved ice since the portion is pretty large. The strawberry topping was refreshing and sweet. The shaved ice had a very unique texture where it was very soft and melts in your mouth. The cream also added a nice sweetness that made the shaved ice creamy almost like ice cream. The seating is also nice for hanging out with friends and they have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. read more

BAD, BAD, BAD!!! Poor customer service from the manager. I wanted to buy two cream puffs and to have the cream put in a separate container so I don't have to eat them both tonight otherwise they get soggy by tomorrow. Tucked away in the corner behind a large beard papa tent, this cute little dessert shop is stacked with solid mochi and good drinks. It''s not the best mochi I've ever had (and the packaging of the mochi reminds me a little bit of repacked store bought mochi), but the flavors and softness of the mochi say otherwise. If you're craving some quality mochi (but also a nice, quaint place to relax), this is the spot for you! read more

I would hate to be the bearer of bad news as the service was kind and prompt but with integrity and concern for health, I am sad to say that my low rating was due to finding a fly in my Beard Papa's creme puff. I was so excited to see Beard Papa's because the ones in Cerritos and Garden Grove closed down so I bought a box of them to bring home. Though I could say it's to add flavor and protein to what was a good creme puff, I'm a bit disturbed or in other words, it bugged me. I wish I could say it's a joke but I would never purposefully waste food. T_____T Other than that, I did enjoy the mint mojito and taiyaki~ Just some advice: plssssssssss be more careful. read more

The menu here is rather LARGE, but also suspect because no business can stock that many things and still expect to maintain high quality products across the entire board. I came specifically for the *Taiyaki Croissant* with red bean. It was ~$4, was made fresh-to-order, and looked about right, perhaps smaller though. I noshed into this charming fish square with excitement. The breading was buttery, flaky, and warm. But, where the hell was the red bean?! I did finally get to it at the tail-end of the fish, but the amount contained inside was absolutely criminal. They all but scooped a small spoonful of red bean into this thing; about one-third of the fish had filling. My deflated fish could have all but shed several tears, and I most certainly did. Tread lightly here! read more

A nice spot to visit after lunch in the area. Plenty of parking in the grocery parking lot. No wait in line with ample indoor and outdoor seating relative to the customer traffic. Sells desserts with the most popular being the shaved ice and beard papa puffs. Food (7/10): Standard fix for shaved ice and puff desserts. Mango milk ice - classic shaved mango ice with little mochi cubes. Again not the best but definitely good enough and gets the job done. Value (7/10): Standard pricing. $10-15 for shaved ice depending on size. About $3 a beard papa puff. Ambience (7/10): Standard furnishings. Has a few nicer couch/booth seating. Outdoor seating as well. Lots of families that come through here. read more

I haven't come back in years and I feel like the quality has gone down. This definitely wouldn't be my first choice for dessert. They used to be called Mochilato because they have gelato In mochi! They also used to have Beard Papa's cream puffs available. They still have those, but it seems like there is less mochilato. They added coconut cream mochi (which is flavored mochi skin with coconut cream inside). You can get gelato in a cup, but I tried multiple flavors and it wasn't super quality gelato in my opinion. They do have the Taiyaki fish come ice cream advertised, but when we went they didn't offer it. They said they only put either green tea or vanilla softserve in the cone and they didn't have the batter for the cone that day...my friend's brother said the last time he came they didn't have the soft serve. I asked the server when they do offer the Taiyaki cone, and he said "yesterday they did" but he's unsure when. Customer service was mediocre, because while the server was nice..he didn't have any answers to our questions and he would yell behind him to his superiors for an answers. Then his superiors would call back with answers while busily walking from the kitchen to the front. They offer food too like Korean rice cake or fried rice. There are vegetable/vegetarian options for those. We ended up getting a waffle with red bean and strawberries that comes with a scoop of vanilla gelato. They said it would be an extra dollar if we did 2 half scoops of other flavored gelato. They also offer croissant stuffed Taiyaki fish with filling like Nutella, ham & cheese, and red bean. We ordered a red bean and got a Nutella one! His place just seems disorganized with mediocre sweets...but they have lots of options. read more

I still come here for the Beard Papa's cream puffs but it's ridiculous how cheap they've become when it comes to packaging. I ordered 8 cream puffs and was asked how I wanted them packaged. Puzzled, I said "In a box?" Response: "Yes, but our boxes only fit 6 or 10 cream puffs." Still puzzled, I asked: "Well, couldn't you put my cream puffs in the bigger box? I'm taking this to a party." Response: "No, we can't do that." Me: "That doesn't make sense..." Response: "..." Another girl was assembling the cream puffs and I wanted to see how this goes. Sure enough, she pulls out a small box and starts to put in the cream puffs. Except, try as she might, she could only fit FIVE cream puffs in the box. She starts to put the remaining three in white paper bags, the flat kind for cookies. As it was explained to me (in more detail), they're just not allowed to. The business owners need to allow their employees to use common sense rather than penny pinch about packaging. You figure if they're cutting corners on something so basic as that, what else are they cutting corners on? Ingredients in the food? Anyway, that'll be the last time I come here for anything. read more

I came today for gelato but Mochilato also has a wide selections of desserts (mochi, pastries, Beard Papa's, shaved ice), drinks (coffee, tea, boba) and entrée for lunch/dinner. Don't be discouraged by its small storefront. This place is deep with plenty of tables for large parties. They have tables in the patio too but I will stay inside and enjoy the a/c and free Wi-Fi. You would not suspect from the name Mochilato but this place seems to be a magnet for Koreans in Irvine. I am seated among tables of people, all speaking Koreans. Got two of the cream puffs, the lady said they were out of the original puff. Only have the cookie kind left, so I got two. Then I paid for my puff and wait for it. While waiting for it....GUESS WHAT? Another male helped the customer who was behind me. She was ordering some puffs too. And HE said they have ONE more ORIGINAL left and all others are the cookie ones. I could have gotten the last original one... only if the lady tells me the same. I had enough of this place for Beard Papa and I will never come back. My addiction for Beard Papa has been almost two decades and this place is just the worst. Not only their original is lacking in vanilla bean flavor, strawberry is also to artificial whip creamy flavored. But my real dis-satisfaction at this place is the way they fill the shell. They are just not trained right to represent the original Beard Papa! The real authentic Beard Papa must be filed heavily until the filling leaks through the hole, so the inner layer of the shell becomes slightly soften yet out layer remains lightly crispy while eating, this is why they need to be eaten right away. The workers here just have no clue. I even mentioned to the guy when he was filling the shell, but he even put lesser! Grrrr I donot waste my money and time for this cheap, not real Beard PAPA PLACE NO MORE. read more

After picking up a few items at Daiso I went next door to Mochilato for a treat. I don't like Beard Papa at all so I walked right past the cream puffs and stood in front of the mochilato and gelato. No one was behind the counter. I glanced around the cute and comfy interior - only a couple customers were sitting at one of several tables. A few minutes went by and a couple more people came in and were now patiently standing behind me. After about 4 minutes, which in writing doesn't look long but when you're standing at a counter waiting to order feels like an eternity, a young woman came out from the back. No apology or anything, she just went right to 'can I help you?' I wasn't too put off by the wait but have to admit I was amused by this woman's fake eyelashes - they were the longest I've ever seen, to comical effect. I imagined one had fallen off and it took her that long to wrangle and reapply it. I ordered three mochilatos: coconut, coffee, and tiramisu. The mochi was surprisingly soft; a "doughy" texture. I am used to a slightly more firm mochi. I didn't like the softer mochi any less or any more - it was just different. The coconut was the best, very flavorful. Tiramisu was delicious but the coffee one was just okay - I was hoping for a more robust coffee flavor. The mochilato here is very good and saves me a brutal drive to downtown L.A. to Mikawaya. read more

This was my second time trying Mochi. I originally was not a fan of this store but one of my friends persuaded me to try it again and I really enjoyed it, particularly because of the unique ice cream flavors and the kind staff. (The passion fruit flavor has the perfect amount of sourness!) I was especially impressed by one staff member called Grace, since she explained each flavor to us in detail. She even greeted us warmly right when we entered the store! She was very patient with me despite me wanting to try many many flavors - she even gave me decently large scoops of samples to try, while other ice cream places always only give me enough to lick which isn't enough to even taste the flavor. I also got cream puffs which were pretty good, but had a bit too much filling inside to the point that the cream puff was covered in cream. Maybe put a little less cream so that each bite will have a better ratio between the coat and the filling. However, I thought the powder sugar coat was amazing with the perfect amount of crunchiness to it. Food is pricey but pretty worth it. Great experience with the staff. read more

Mochi + Gelato = MOCHILATO! Genius! Mochi is soft like a pillow and the gelato is creamy and superb! I tried the green tea and strawberry. Both very delightful! $2 a pop. I wish they were half the price so I can eat this everyday. If you want gelato, I highly recommend getting banana fudge and red velvet. You'll go bananas with these flavors! Both not too sweet and they taste like the actual thing. The red velvet has cake bites folded in the gelato which is always a pleasant treat when you happen to score one in your mouth. Ask for samples! $3.95 for a small cup. I had the regular cream puff with chocolate filling from Beard Papa. I honestly didn't enjoy it. Maybe if I had it with vanilla it would be better? Not sure if I want to gamble another $2.35 to find out. Place is really spacious with plenty of table seating available. I love their modern contemporary furniture here. They also carry quite a few food items on their menu such as tacos, noodles, and fried rice. Ugh on my quest to find the best macarons i stopped by Mochilato to sample there's. Apparently every Mochilato sources there macarons from different local bakeries. The Irvine location get there macarons from XT Patisserie over in La Habra. They do have all your usual flavors. Although they didn't have salted caramel... only regular caramel. They are abit on the pricer side at $2 each compared to other places. The flavors i tried i was abit disappointed however with the overall quality. 1. Caramel: This was definitely the best of the three that i tried. This had your expected crispy crust yet chewy moist inside. The caramel itself was very smooth and not overly sweet with a slight hint of saltiness. Overall 3.5/5 2. Rose: This one had a really crispy crust however the middle of the cookie itself seemed hollow so it wasn't as chewy like the caramel one. The rose flavor itself was very very light almost to the point as you couldn't really tell what you're eating if no one told you. Overall 2/5 3. Pistachio: This one also had a really crispy crust without the chewy middle. Maybe there weren't too fresh so they got too dry? The flavor itself was really nutty pistachio flavor but not overly sweet. But i did get really tired of the taste after the first bite. Overall 1.5/5 Overall i probably wouldn't come here for the macarons as there are many other better choices in the area for the price paid. Just stick with the gelato and beard papa's... read more
