Service: Oil change
Nightmare, is what i went thru when i took my 22 Nissan Rogue in yesterda for it's 2nd oil change, last oil change was done at a dealership. right off the bat they struggled with the skip plate below the oil pan, but soon after that, i could tell something went wrong down there, a service attendant started talking to me about drain plugs, while the manager types up the invoice, they mentioned something about drainplug, i thought they're trying to sell me something extra so i acted like i'm not interested, after I completed the payment, i start to realize something went wrong, manager came to me and said " there's problem with your oil pan, it needs to be replaced, i was like what? I need a new what?
each of my question is answered with a very short answer, i'm not dumb but i'm also not a mechanic, he drew a picture of what had happened, but none apologetically, i was still in shock when they're ready to see me leave, wait! i still have qeustions, who is at fault if not Mobile 1, who's paying for my oil pan? the manager said it's a design flaw on Nissan's part, with a smirk i have to add, or the last Nissan mechanics over tighten the plug, it's all but Mobile 1's fault, i asked is the pan leaking now, manager doesn't know, or maybe he said no, is it safe to drive, he can't promise it won't leak once i'm moving, but he wants me out of the garage, there's customer waiting behind, i asked what did you do with the plug? what's holding it together? duck tape?? he said they banged it in. banged??they just looked away and waited for me to leave, sometimes in between all this someone show me the dip stick with full of fresh oil, like that matters now. if i come back another day will they even remember me if they're acting like this today.they typed a short comment at the bottom of my invoice what he said above, when i didn't leave right then, manager THREATEN TO CALL THE COP on me, but my oil is leaking?.they said i'm illegally blocking their business that's costing them $130/hr, dude, who is paying for my lost?
i phoned Nissan dealership nearby and begged them to take me in, the call quickly escalated up the chain and i was quickly talking to a the service manger or supervisor while on my way there, Nissan quickly put it on the hoist and, yes, the oil is still leaking and the plastic part of the oil pan looked drenched, I told them what the guys at MObile 1 said, they did not start the blame game there but looks like there' a chance it could be covered under warranty, i don't know.
maybe Nissan Langley guys over tighten the plug, so when Mobile one try to unscrew it this time, the whole thing came out as one piece, this is not to say we're 100% sure Mobile 1 is cleared of all fault, but to act the way they did with me, and threaten to call the cops, is very bad judgement.
Nissan quickly got me set up with a rental car and ordered the oil pan, 5 of the plastic pins that holds the skip plate in place is missing, turns out they're still on the floor in the pit back at Mobile 1, they wanted me gone so fast they couldn't make sure parts were put back on properly.
my advice to Mobile 1, if your service technician is not sure about this vehicle, stop there, don't touch it, if it's too tight, stop there, ask me to go back to the last shop.
the oil pan is not in stock, it will take 7-10 business days, Nissan found me a rental car just before they close, for $60 a day, which is not covered by my insurance for this is considered a mechanical issue, I also drive for Lyft on the side making $1000 a week, that's on pause now, all the above happened in a spam of 1.5hrs. i'm trying to be as transparent and fair i can in telling this experience and may have missed a few details, but that is honestly my worst experience at an oil change place my entire life. Mobile 1 charge even more than what Nissan charges for oil change, with the coupon too! i'm never coming back, except to grab those 3, hopefully 5 missing plastic pins today. read more
