MK Skin Renew is one of those places I want to selfishly keep to myself so that I can continue to get appointments at my preferred days/times. Before I decided to give this place a try, I pored over reviews for 6 different businesses that offer facials. I read and re-read reviews for almost two weeks. Why? Because facials are not cheap and I'm very picky about who I allow to touch my face. Based on reviews, availability, and location (it's just a 15-minute walk from my apartment), I went with MK Skin Renew. I went with the hydrafacial + microdermabrasion + LED service because it seemed like the best deal. And I was not disappointed! The salon is super clean and neat, which is something else I look for because good hygiene and clean tools are crucial. Before Kyong even took me into the treatment room, she sat me down to give me an initial consultation. She took one look at my face and was able to catch and name all of my skin concerns like some kind of derma-psychic. As soon as I laid down on the treatment bed and Kyong started the microdermabrasion, I passed out. I woke up a couple of times to the sound of my own snoring. I've always been curious about what a hydrafacial is, but I'll have to wait and find out next time since I slept through it on my first visit. After the facial, I didn't get breakouts like I sometimes do post-facial. My pores looked smaller and my skin was clearer overall. Kyong showed me the products she had used on me and recommended that I purchase them. Not only is Kyong an expert esthetician, she's a smart saleswoman. She only uses and carries Skinceutical products which I've never tried before because of the sky-high price point. She recommended 5 products for me which, if I have to estimate, would have cost me $700-800. I bought one of the products because I've been desperately trying to lighten sunspots on my face, so I'm willing to pay for it. When I got home, I did some online research and learned why Skinceutical products are so expensive (they're apparently one of the innovative pioneers at the forefront of skincare). Something else that was validating was that Kyong does not mark up the prices of her products; she sells them at the same prices as what's listed on Skinceutical's website. It's been almost a week and my face still looks and feels as fresh as it did right after the facial. I definitely plan to go back in 4-6 weeks! read more

I have had facials on a regular basis for a very long time. We are visiting HI and this was my first time to visit MK Skin Renew. Kyong was gracious and took time with me before starting to hear my concerns and explain her recommended treatments. My hour and a half treatment was very relaxing but thorough. I had my first appointment with Kyong of MK Skin Renew on Saturday (1/4/2025). Setting up the appointment was so easy! All I did was text the owner (Ms. Kyong) at the number posted on her website. She listened to my concerns and made evaluation on her own; then I requested we go with her recommended treatment. I had some extractions and a hydrafacial. Afterwards she recommended me some products, which she had already used on my skin during treatment. She carries different brands and lines of products of all types but recommends only those which she thinks will best help your specific skin. She explains her reasoning for picking the products and provides a step by step routine. I really appreciate both the personalized approach and her experience/vast knowledge. You can tell she really knows what she is talking about. My second appointment with her was on Saturday (1/25). I had used the products she recommended me and implemented them in my routine per her step-by-step guidelines. She assessdd the progress of my skin and we both agreed it got much better. Again I had a hydrofacial (maybe a deluxe version)? and had extractions done. We set a date for my third appointment. This morning, Friday (1/31/25) my husband randomly commented on the new quality of my skin. He has been away for about a month and I did not tell him about my new skincare routine or about the treatments I've been getting at MK Skin Renew. He said "Your skin looks different. Like it's glowing. It looks really good! It's better. What are you doing?" To hear that from someone who sees me everyday and knows what I look like in detail really solidified what I already felt: Kyong is a knowledgable skin goddess! and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon her business. I started going to Kyong in August of 2022 (happy one year!) and the quality of my skin has improved to a level which I never thought was possible. I had pretty consistent breakouts, clogged pores, pretty bad discoloration, and borderline cystic acne. I thought I was doing enough in my old skincare routine, but Kyong set me right. Kyong is clearly very passionate about the health and state of my skin, and will be forward and honest with me when I need to do more of something in my routine. She was always quick to respond to questions I had about the new routine I had invested in with her (optional of course, but it's 100% worth it knowing that you have the right products). She uses Skinceuticals mostly, which is a highly rated skincare brand that has been around for a looooong time. It's a little pricey but the ingredients are very high quality and make a huge difference in my opinion. The experience itself is very relaxing, I almost fall asleep every time hahaha. For me, Kyong does a combination of deep cleansing, a Hydrofacial, extractions, chemical peel, and red light therapy (my acne is very strong lol). For all of these services, she offers a very fair and competitive price compared to other places in town. Plus, she's in a private office with parking. I really wish I took a before picture when we first started, because the difference is pretty crazy. I still have some acne scarring, but it's been gradually getting lighter. I used to be very insecure and depressed about the state of my acne, it seemed like nothing I tried worked and it felt like I was just destined to deal with adult hormonal acne forever. I didn't like when my husband would touch my face either because all I could think about was how bumpy and gross it probably felt. Usually I don't write reviews for anything, but MK Skin Renew deserves more recognition than it ever receives. I'm 15, and I have always traveled to different dermatologists/aestheticians around Oahu and I have never seemed to have any reason to stay at their office. However, I finally found this aesthetician, Kyong, who has sparked the best for my skin, mental, and emotional health. She is super kind and very understanding. I was first embarrassed to pull my mask down to show her what she had to work with, but she never judged me and made me feel safe to open up to her about how I felt about my acne. As I had my first consult with her, I was always eager to see her again the next time. She gave me the best recommendations and in a short amount of time, I have seen the biggest difference in my skin!!! She has the most gentle hands that has ever touched my skin, and she takes her time and makes sure she's targeting concerning areas, but also deep cleaning minor areas. So far, I have started with the cleaning and extractions for a couple of months, and just recently I am working with a chemical peel. I have seen a huge difference in the care of my skin, and I have never thought I'd see what I've wanted to see, EVER!! Before she even starts anything, she'll let you know what products she will apply onto your face. She also includes calming music and sets the temperature to a perfect cold. I appreciate how clean and organized Kyong keeps her office, whether it's where you're waiting or getting your facial done. There are descriptions of products to over view, sometimes little treats, and she offers water/tea to keep you hydrated! Lastly, the products she recommends can CHANGE YOU, not just your skin, but help you work on having consistency as a habit. She really teaches you that when you give yourself a vision, it's already yours, you just need to be religious on working on it. She also makes sure you're on track, and when she has a prodigy change for you, she'll let you know depending on how your face has been reacting with what she offered. Kyong is the sweetest, kind-hearted, honest, and respectful aesthetician I have ever met. She really cares for her patients, and would even greet you on occasional holidays. She always asks how you've been, and talks to you to have you feel more comfortable. I love coming to her. She gave me a sense of hope and many reasons to work as hard as she works with me, but to also keep myself stress free. I walked in with severe acne, pustules, and bumps and redness over the other. I got a facial a couple weeks ago here and honestly it was 4 of 10, I told her that I wanted a deep extraction and basically that was the only reason that I went there, she charges for many things without telling you so be careful, I paid about 200$ and the extraction were mediocre, she didn't even use the High Frequency facial machine to CLOSE my pores so whatever she took away of my blackheads, they came worst and they became pimples. Overpriced for the service, I mean she is really nice but if you go to get a facial (extractions), the point is at least to have a better skin without blackheads, if I wanted creams and face masks I would definitely do it at home, if I'm looking for a professional it's to get the help that I can't do by myself. All the great reviews are what led me to this place. I've gotten extractions before a couple years ago but it was definitely my first time getting a hydrafacial + dermabrasion + LED. I was nervous at first because when it comes to anything or anyone touching my face, I'm cautious... but it was quite relaxing. This is the place to visit if you're looking for a great facial! I've been to many places for facials, but Kyong is one of my favorite so far! I first visited her location to use my groupon for the hydrafacial (Reg. $130). She explained that it would be very beneficial for me to get the microdermabrasion before the hydrafacial so I upgraded for $10 (this was a special price when using the Groupon... not sure how much it is regular). It was well worth it!! The mircrodermabrasion helped smoothen my skin by getting rid of all the dead skin since my skin was very dry She then performed the hydrafacial, and the gel was able to be absorbed much better. Kyong was very informative and I never felt like she was just trying to upsell me. I returned for a follow up appointment 2 weeks later and was again VERY pleased witht the service and results. I wish that I could afford seeing her every month... Hopefully I will schedule to go back to see her soon! Also, I really appreciate her customer service. Kyong is the owner and she does amazing facials.. admittedly I seek out Korean facialist just from my previous experience from high end Korean spas to LA, NY and now Honolulu, I've found that some other facialists skimp around the corners and do not offer the full luxurious treatment, especially for how much a facial can cost. So glad that I've finally come to invest in my skin! I've always struggled with acne and dark spots, but wearing a mask all day has caused my skin to break out so much that I needed help. My experience here was amazing. I purchased the $65 groupon for a hydrafacial, as I wanted to pamper myself before the stressful school semester begins. I ended up regretting not purchasing the $99 groupon for the hydrafacial, peel/microdermabrasion, and LED Blue Light Therapy, so she let me upgrade at my appointment. The extra $34 was very worth it. All three of these services together would normally cost $200+. I highly, highly recommend the hydrafacial. You can get microdermabrasion and peels from pretty much any esthetician, but the hydrafacial and blue light therapy are done with very expensive equipment, so not many estheticians offer this service. The blue light therapy is great for killing acne bacteria. I noticed immediately after that my skin was so much smoother, and she really extracted out all of the bumps and pimples that were on my cheeks. The extractions that took place with the blue light therapy were really painful, I won't lie, but so worth it. My skin feels so smooth now. No bumps. Her shop is really high end. It is located on Kapiolani BLVD., between Keeamoku and Piikoi. It is directly across the street from Secured Gold Buyers. If you're going towards downtown, it will be on the right side of Kapiolani. If you're heading towards Waikiki, it will be on the left side of Kapiolani. There is limited free parking available. I have been to two other estheticians, and her office is definitely the nicest. Her set up is extremely clean and everything is well-decorated and high-end. I also really love the steam machine she uses that sprays a small amount of steam on your face during some parts of the facial. My only sadness is that the regular prices are pretty expensive. She offered me a pretty substantial discount since I'm a student for return visits, but I doubt I will be able to come in on a monthly basis as recommended. I was really lucky that the person after me canceled her appointment, so I wasn't rushed at all during my appointment. I would highly recommend Kyong! I wish I could come here every month if I could. I went to Kyong last December, after my skin started getting discolored and I had bout of acne. I hadn't had a facial in a few years. Even after one visit, my skin improved pretty dramatically. And since then, after a few more visits, my skin is now the best it's been in years. The discoloration is almost gone, I have no acne, and overall, my skin looks really healthy.
