This facial was terrible. I trusted all of these good reviews and I guess that was my mistake. There was not much prep before doing the extractions at all. There was no steam whatsoever and I really enjoy that as I feel like it softens my skin. Steam or even a hot towel could've helped soften my skin and prep for the extractions. The extraction part was terrible itself, she was scraping really really hard and mentioned several times how her clients would tell her that her extractions were painful. She said if you don't press hard enough nothing will come out. I'm not the expert but scraping and pulling skin doesn't seem helpful it actually seems harmful. It seemed like I paid for not much service. When she did the blue light therapy she just left me in the room for ten minutes or more. She could've massaged my head and arms or something but instead I'm just laying there doing nothing. Even the face mask felt cheap she just used a sheet mask. My skin has been purging with really bad breakouts ever since the facial it's super bumpy everywhere. I've had allergic reactions from facials before but I don't think this is the case right now. I will not come back based on lack of service and how roughly she deals with the skin. For the amount of the facial it should feel more luxurious than it did and maybe she should rethink doing extractions so roughly to the point where it's painful. read more

I've had a bunch of skin issues since I was 16 (cystic acne, clogged pores, acne scarring, sensitive red skin) and pretty much a lot of time and money going back and forth between different dermatologists without actually seeing any results. Trust me when I tell you that I've done pretty much everything back then (chemical peels, laser treatments, extractions, the "promises" that comes with using a combination of products) so I was pretty much skeptical about meeting Nikki for the first time. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found Nikki! I've had skin issues since high-school, redness, large pores, cystic acne, scarring, you name it. Being such a great catch, i then thought what can i do to improve my chances even more? SO...I thought I'd do something different by visiting Nikki at Skin Essentials about a month and a half ago. Let me tell you, first impression is everything now days. Right when you walk into her clean, contemporary office, Nikki is there to greet you with a smile. She offers MANY services (get your mind out of the gutter)...spray tanning, facials, skin treatment, and many other spa services. On my visit, I decided to get a quick facial and maybe a quick clean up on my massive...eyebrows! Being that it was my first facial, I didn't know what to expect. Nikki was very professional and she explained each step in the process from what is in the products that she was using to what the products are supposed to do. All her products are organic, which definitely is a plus because I wouldn't want crazy chemicals all over this face. The facial did hurt, but again it wasn't as bad as I imagined. Oh and about that eyebrow clean up...it was quick and done well cause I had a hard time telling if anything was done. I would definitely recommend anyone, guys and girls, to visit Nikki. I have had mild acne since I was 12, but when I turned 21 my face suddenly exploded with cystic acne that left me with scars all along the sides of my face. I have tried so many different products that at one point I was pretty jaded when it came to new products and treatments. Some of them helped a little, but my skin was never the same and many of the products made my skin very sensitive and dry. Since I met Nikki, however, my skin has been brighter and my acne has gone down a lot. A couple of days ago I went to see Nikki and she recommended two treatments to help with the scaring on my face: the Environ Facial--Iontophoresis & Sonic Phoresis Treatment and the LED Red Light Treatment. It honestly sounded a bit intimidating to me, but the treatments were VERY relaxing and Nikki is really great about communicating what is going on and what to expect as she moves through the treatments. Two days later my skin already looks BRIGHTER, feels SOFTER, and SMOOTHER! I still have scaring, but it looks a lot less noticeable. This was only my first treatment, so I'm excited to see the results as I continue. My girlfriend even noticed a difference in my skin that night after the treatments. As the other yelpers have also mentioned, Nikki is very knowledgeable. She is always open to any questions you might have and is fun to talk to in general. I Went and got a microderm abrasion treatment for the first time today. Nikki came highly recommended by a trusted friend that goes to see her twice a month. Parking was ample, not a problem at all. The building was a little older condition but as soon as I stepped through her office it was a clean tranquil oasis. IT was a pleasant feeling. Professionalism describes the business well. I guess she could tell I was a little apprehensive and scared that it would hurt. Nikki took care of my fears and gave me the red carpet treatment every moment of the way. She explained in full detail the steps she was going to take in my treatment. She looked at my skin beforehand to see what condition it was in. I had the common "T zone "with a side of mild rosacea. Told me not to worry and my skin will look AMAZING when we were through. (we will see) I was very comfortable and she put me at ease. Going through the crystal microderm abrasion was a piece of cake. The pore cleaning though was something else. IT HURT! It lasted for about 60 seconds and my eyes were watery when it was over. After the pain, she took much care in exfoliating the layers of dead skin off my face. She saturated my dermis by adding liquid vitamins and collagen generating nutrients to aid in healthy skin production. I must say, my skin never looked better. IT feels as soft and supple as my childs 6yr old baby skin. The pore cleaning worked! Surprisingly It was worth the pain. She handed me a mirror, I could see an immediate difference while I was sitting in the treatment room. She was 100% correct. My skin looked AMAZING!!! She gave me instructions on what to do every day to continue to keep my skin in glowing shape (exfoliate, moisturize, teaspoon of correct sunscreen). She did not pressure me to purchase anything for sale in her salon. Her next client was coming in a little later so she had time to give me a quick mineral makeup session too. She goes above and beyond in customer service and you can tell she enjoys what she does. I left feeling completely relaxed. I had never had a facial prior to meeting Nikki, nor did I really think much about my skin besides worrying about pimples. Now, many facials and skin products later, I am so glad I met Nikki! What really impressed me about Nikki was her extensive knowledge on skin. Anything you want to know about skin, ask Nikki. Her knowledge on skin is comparable to a dermatologist. Nikki really stresses wearing sunscreen everyday, and ever since I started taking her advice seriously I have noticed my skin looks better. I have had friends who loved getting facials from those spas at hotels and at other places before, and I had heard that they would not want to go out after because their face was all red from the facial. I have yet to walk out of Nikki's spa after getting a facial with a red face. In fact, she has this machine that gets rid of the redness since I have sensitive skin. I was amazed at how FANTASTIC my face looked after my last facial, especially considering I was breaking out and had a lot of gunk in my nose and chin prior to getting the facial. Nikki has taken such great care of us! not once has she disappointed me. The first few times I got a facial my skin was clear but she made it super polished and clean. She was a life safer, or at least skin saver.... recently i had a few blemishes and had a function to go to in a few days thankfully Nikki took care of it right away. I usually walk out of there with a glow but unfortunately due to my not taking care of my skin I walked out a tad bit reddish. It went away the same day. Nikki was a lucky find on Yelp as I called another place first and they didn't have appointments available while I was there. Nikki was my second call. Nikki is knowledgeable and skilled. Her extraction is the best. She is not afraid to go in and clean up the clogged pores and she is skilled enough that I don't worry looking red or have scars. I love her lymphatic draining massage, microdermabrasion and customized facial that leaves my skin looking great when I return to the mainland. Her products are top of the line and she educates you about using vitamins to nourish your skin and slow down the aging process. I have been going to her since 2013 when I visit Hawaii once a year. I looked younger than my age when I first saw her in 2013 and still do after 3 years. I use her products and order from her when I run out. I have been trying to find a good facial in the Bay Area and has not been able to find someone like Nikki. Her facial is the great one I get once a year when I visit the island. After reading the rave reviews on Yelp, I decided to go in for a microdermabrasion facial with Nikki. AMAZING!!!! To begin with, I'm a total OCD, Type A when it comes to skin care (which is why none of the facial salons in Honolulu impressed me after I tried them). However, Nikki is the bomb! Her knowledge regarding skin care is by far superb, and she goes out of her way to explain things (i.e., what a treatment would do, my skin type, etc.). She is so personable, honest, and professional that I would recommend her to anyone. And she gives the BEST facials. They may be a bit pricier than your cheaper ones, but they have longer-lasting results and benefits! Now, microdermabrasion might not be for everyone (which is why you would consult Nikki first). It did sting a bit, but the pore extractions didn't hurt. Even if extractions tend to hurt for you, you should be grateful that it is being done (no pain, no gain peoples!). After her facial, my face glowed, pores shrunk, and my skin was luminous. Since my skin is a bit sensitive, it was dry and somewhat red for one day (which went away). Nikki also gave me some cosmetic samples to try at home (she doesn't push you and only makes recommends if you want). Nikki is the best ever! I came here for my first facial because I had a little but of recurring acne on my forehead and chin. She extracted all the gunk. Expect a little pain when she does this but it was super minor! All of the products she uses were amazing and I left feeling so much better than when I came in.
