This place has pretty decent food but the reason why I'm giving it 1 star is because every single time we placed an order, they have always messed up. Every.single.time. And our office orders from this place pretty often and we have a running joke about this place. That's how bad it is. But even messing up our order every single time might be forgivable if they seem apologetic about it. But no, never once do they say sorry that we have to come back to pick up our correct order. Surprising because the lady seems nice, but never once acknowledges that they messed up, which I have a problem with. So I'll never be going back here again. read more

Nice little find. Especially if you're waiting for your Tesla to be worked on around the corner during the STOOPID Coronavirus Lockdown and you have no access to coffee or a bathroom. Walk for 11 minutes to MJ's and grab some java and have a seat outside with awnings covering the tables and free WiFi . The bathroom is upstairs. Ask for the key. This guarantees social distancing. Our office moved from Newport Beach last October and we quickly discovered MJ's Cafe tucked into the corner of the office across the street. This place is great! Erika who usually works the register is super friendly, and I think she knew my name after two or three visits. I eat here several times a week, and I have never been disappointed. Everything is made fresh to order and they are super quick! They have a great variety of salads, sandwiches, daily specials, soup, and chili, all for reasonable prices. They also have great breakfast, smoothies and coffee drinks. I highly recommend them if you find yourself up hear by the airport and you are looking for a great breakfast or lunch. read more

This place is soooooooooo under rated. Such a hidden gem in the industrial warehouse part of costa mesa. MJs is known for their delicious lunches, phenomenal cookies, and daily specials. All of the meals are so freshly prepared. Some of my favorites include: their coffee selection, protein shakes, cooooooookies, salads, and the tuscan chicken wrap. This little cafe is conveniently located across the street from where I work and I don't know how many times I've picked up breakfast and lunch here. When you've got back to back meetings and you don't have time to run out for a decent lunch, MJ's has got your back! I can order all my meals online and they'll always be ready by the time I come and pick it up. They've got a lot of options on their menu and its reasonably priced too. Also, the staff is the sweetest! Check-in for your free cookie or cup of coffee. The macadamia coconut cookie is pretty good :) I'm so grateful there's a place like MJ's near my office. I had their special today which is Chicken Chili Verde. BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Surprising coming from a cafe. I LOVE how they do a special each day which is always something very different. The price is perfect as well. Secondly they go above and beyond to make accommodations. I tend to eat low carb so instead of the rice, beans and tortilla with my Verde they allowed me a side salad at no charge. This place NEVER answers the phone . No matter what time you call. How can you place a lunch order or breakfast if the phones are never picked up. Ive have gone in person and the place is Empty but can't manage to pick up phone orders. Also soups of the day are not consistent . It's the same soup almost everyday. The food here is good but they definitely have a capacity issue during peak times. I took advice from other reviewers and ordered online thinking it would be better than ordering in person. I am going on 40 minutes and still no food. They keep telling me to wait a little longer. Knowing that lunch is their peak time and that people need to get back to work, it's unfortunate they don't plan properly or develop a more efficient process. Alright so I have been eating at this place off and on for about a year now. The beginning of this year I had amazing service with them I love to use their own Line app when I found out about it and it worked marvelously. Then towards the middle of the year they started to lag on making the orders on time I'm not sure if it's the amount of business are receiving but also the detail on the order sometimes making items wrong. The last few times I visit this place they have been getting my orders correct. Erica always greets me she's so kind. I get my food and I go sometimes if my smoothie isn't waiting out Erica will walk around and grab it from the fridge. I am happy I did not give up on this place! read more

This is my new favorite eatery in costa mesa. We got the cob sandwich and "south of the boarder" sandwich, both were made to perfection. I have been going to MJ's for about 3 years and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal. They are all super friendly in there and food is cooked or made up fresh with in 5-15mins. Close to work, fast service for such a small place. Good specials, great of variety of sandwiches and salads. They also serve breakfast. I usually get a soup/salad combo or 1/2 sandwich and salad combo. They make their cookies on site - chocolate chip is my fav, though I really like the white chocolate cookies without the cranberries. They have online ordering, but is tricky if you don't pay attention to the soup list, it is easy to order the wrong one. Also it can take longer to order online as the system wants you to select each item instead of having them set with how it is on the menu. read more

There's a lot of variety from different types of salads, hot sandwiches, panini, etc. I work in a nearby block so I'm usually here 1-2 times a week and each time the food and service is pretty good. It gets a bit busy during lunch hour so I highly recommend that you order online. You can just walk in and pick up the food. And it's usually ready within 15 minutes or so. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 since their prices are pretty steep. I think they know they are the only restaurant/cafe in walkable distance for everyone in this industrial area so they can pull off the high prices. For example, a sandwich and drink can easily push you over $10. That really adds up for those that come here frequently throughout the week. Other than the cost, great food and service. read more

This place would be great if they could get an order correct. I used to come here daily but today was the last straw. It seems like there is new staff and it has been really hurting the service here. Today isn't the first day I've ordered a breakfast sandwich, paid full price, only to sit down and realize there is no meat in the sandwich. Ordering even a slight variation from my usual would result in an item being left out of my order and an extra 10-20 min wait time for an item I had already paid for. I've been late returning to work, disappointed, not to mention ill, too many times after eating here. They're also overpriced since they hiked prices on almost every item. Today I paid $6.43 for two slices of bread (not toasted as they should have been), two slices of semi-melted american cheese, and a couple slivers of avocado. Never coming back. read more

Wouldn't even give it a star. Placed order over phone and walked over to find that it wasn't even ordered. So I did not have a lunch. THey have made mistakes before and other co-workers have had this issue. Maybe if they picked the phone up and not just let you leave it on a voice mail. This would not happend. Prices are high also. Hands down the best cookies ever. When they were in Newport Beach, I would frequent for their breakfast burritos, salads, and cookies. Love this place! I work in the same complex, so it is convenient, since I don't have to go very far from my office. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. They are also very friendly, which explains why the stay so busy. Wish they would open on weekends, but having them around during the week is nice. I give this place a 1 star for a few reasons. The food can be good at times, but the prices are too much and also the change in customer service, makes this place a red flag for me. I have gone into this place a few times to eat, and on both occasions, at least that I have been aware of, I have been OVERLY charged. I ordered a half soup and half sandwich and it should have been less than $10. But the new cashier ( the one with the black hair, and always up in a bun type) has OVERLY charged me for it. I got charged $12 or so. Not okay!! Then I purchased a cookie and a soda....I paid $7 bucks for those two together, when it should have been less than $5 for it. That's almost like stealing money from the customer. Not okay. I will be calling the manager of MJs Cafe to make a complaint about this. Ever since she started being the cashier, I noticed that she doesn't abide by the menu prices. She makes up her own prices. read more
