Stopped in at 4:00 on New Year's Eve for an early dinner at Mizza. It was 58 degrees outside and chilly. We also had our puppy in tow. I was cold, so I requested the low fire table. This was my second time requesting this table, and my request was denied both times. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, we were told only larger parties can sit there. So, we sat at the same two- top along the wall where we sat a few weeks ago and they lit up 2 space heaters which kept us warm, although without the room and the romantic atmosphere of the fire table. The hostess also offered a dog treat, which was helpful in getting my puppy to position her 60-pound body in the narrow space under my chair and out of the walkway. We ordered the butternut/gorgonzola and the shrimp pesto pizzas on cauliflower crusts. Will definitely order again and next time, request more fried sage leaves on the butternut pizza. Both were delish! We both preferred the butternut pizza. Our server, Xzavier, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, cheerful, and knowledgeable. Excellent. I would have docked this review to 4 stars because of the ongoing BS about the fire table, but because of Xzavier, I'm still awarding 5 stars to Mizza. Side note: the low fire table I requested sat unoccupied the entire time we were at Mizza. It would have been nice to have been able to sit there, enjoy the warmth and romantic atmosphere, and for my 60-pound puppy to have had space to stretch out, rather than being crammed under my chair at the two-top again. I understand the strategy of saving tables for larger parties, but this was at 4 in the afternoon. I have been wanting to try this place for years. Its always busy but looked cozy and inviting everytime we walked by. Happy to say we really enjoyed our time here. Worth it to sit outside, they have plenty of heaters and especially during December when the space and La Arcada are so beautifully decorated for the holidays. We had great service and the food was delicious. We got the sopressata pizza, spicy shrimp pasta, the Tuscan dip and tomato burata app. All we would come back wnd gladly order again. They have a nice big selection of beverages. I had a glass of sangiovese, and my husband got a cucumber mocktail that was so refreshing. Overall, couldn't have asked more. My friend and I were in downtown and looking for a dinner spot. We kept walking until we found Mizza. The menu looked decent so we decided to try it out. We sat outside and it was great because there were so many heating lamps everywhere. Grilled octopus (5/5): This was AMAZING. The octopus was on top of hummus accompanied with tomatoes and lettuce. The hummus was nice and creamy. It came with a slice of bread which was a nice addition. Wild mushroom truffle pizza (4/5): I love a mushroom pizza. This was good. I liked that the slices weren't too big. The mushrooms were great. The truffle flavor was very subtle. Almost nonexistent at times. The cheese was a little overpowering but nothing too crazy. Braised short ribs (4/5): The short ribs were so nice and tender. It was a bit too fatty though. The mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. The broccolini was nicely roasted. The sauce was a red wine reduction. This was a great try! I am glad we walked by. The staff was nice and attentive. Found this place through recommendations from people around the area and it was amazing! We would definitely comeback if we are ever doing another trip in Santa Barbara. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and the servers were so kind. We were seated immediately and ordered some drinks. I'm not much of a strong alcohol person so I ordered the moscato white wine on the menu and it was phenomenal (if you like sweet white wines)! My boyfriend got an Italian Mule and it was strong but we liked the taste of the mint and ginger. For food, we shared a spicy sausage pizza and added caramelized onions (which was a must). The onions added such a nice flavor to the pizza. We then ordered the wild mushroom risotto and the butternut squash ravioli. Everything tasted divine and we were so happy to share a fantastic meal on our day. For dessert, they offered us a tiramisu to celebrate and it was really the icing on the cake. I was walking around downtown and needed a place to park for a work meeting and landed here. I started with a caesar salad and a glass of sauvignon blanc. I go here often and always love the atmosphere and company. I am putting a low review due to the manager and the staff denying me with showing up at a later time. There time shows 9:00pm closing online and I showed up at 8:40pm. I called the restaurant as I left and wanted to speak to a manager, I then got one in the phone and was explaining what had happened when I got hung up on. I called back and was told from the manager that I was the rude one that hung up on them. It was really disappointing that a restaurant that I enjoy so much and that I visit quite often be rude in a way that frankly I won't ever go back. If a company is closing their kitchen early than they need to adjust there times correctly for the consumer to know when they're not wanting to work anymore. With this said, I will not be going back to MIZZA and I will also network this to many people that travel and also visit Santa Barbara for great experiences so they can avoid this restaurant due to there lack of wanting to provide service. Mizza was a great dinner. We sat outside and it was very pretty. There also happened to be a street fest so we lucked out because we got to hear live music. The service was good and they were very busy. Cocktails and mocktails were delicious. Meatball appetizer was flavorful and done nicely. Gnocchi was good and the spicy shrimp pasta was fabulous! It could've been a little more spicy but it had lots of flavor. The only thing we didn't care for was the pizza. It was a bit bland and the ratio of topping to dough, sauce was odd. Ordered a beer and saw grilled octopus on the menu so we ordered the appetizer. The octopus was cooked perfectly and there was a lot of it. We were warmly greeted and offered a table inside or outside (our choice) by the hostess. We chose outside and were seated in Paige C' section (our server). Service provided from Paige was welcoming, prompt, and attentive. We ordered two cocktails (Kettle/Soda and a Tanqueary/Soda), and the black mussels for our appetizer. Paige was sincerely interested in our parties back and forth concerns and questions and resolved any questions honestly and if she didnt have the answer she went back to the kitchen and asked for clarification and promptly came back with an answer. She did not seem irritated or bothered. We ordered Lobster Risotto, Braised Short Ribs, Filet (medium rare- more rare than medium), broccolinni, carrots, and mash potatoes for our split entrée and sides. The food came out hot, quicker than expected, and was 100% accurate. Our experience significantly outperformed our expectation. Paige C., if you're reading this, THANK YOU AGAIN. You have a quality about you that can be a model example for service employees of what to do even when faced with difficulties. Great job. The location is excellent, but unfortunately the service and food were a major disappointment. The food arrived late, was very ordinary, and the portions were surprisingly small. Even bread comes at an extra charge, which might appeal to those on a strict diet, but not to diners expecting value. To make matters worse, the restaurant adds a 3.5% credit card surcharge that is not clearly disclosed. It isn't posted prominently and was never mentioned by the host or our server at any point. Customers are simply expected to notice it on their own. Overall, when a restaurant nickel-and-dimes its customers, it's hard to have confidence in the quality of the ingredients or the dining experience. read more

I came recently for my birthday and the servers were very gracious to my kooky kids (2 and 4 years old). They have a kids menu and crayons which is always a plus for me. We loved everything about our experience at Mizza last night. We were celebrating a birthday and it couldn't have been better. We had the Gorgonzola gnocchi, one of the spicy sausage pizzas and the arugula and prosciutto pizza. The wine list was great and they even let you have a few tasters before you decide.
