I love this place and crave their salad. I go several times a week and usually get two salads at a time. (I go for a Design Your Own salad with lemon herb dressing.) The folks who work there are really friendly. The ingredients are consistently fresh. It's a tasty and easy way to get in a lot of fresh veggies that I feel good about. read more

I didn't design my own bowl. It's not that difficult to do, but at the time it seemed daunting. All I had to do was pick whether I wanted grains or greens. Then I needed to choose the specific grain or green I wanted. Next was the protein. After the protein is when it started to get real tricky. I needed to select five speciality ingredients and there was a total of 48! That's when I gave up on designing my own bowl, the going got too tough. I couldn't even make it to the dressing part. I ended up choosing from the chef crafted selection. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but at least I didn't have to think about what I want. What if I ended up hating what I thought I wanted? I'd be the only one to blame. If I let the chef decide, I can blame them if I don't like it. I wasn't ready to take control of my life and design my own bowl so I passed that responsibility off. So exciting to have a MIXT in Berkeley! Their salads are so fresh and delicious, with interesting combos and seasonal favorites. This location has a kid's menu, which is a great option for my kids, because they can make their own salads and bowls (with smaller portions and cheaper prices!). The fried cauliflower and the sauce it comes with is a fun hot side dish. Great place to grab lunch with a friend, but also to come have dinner with my family. Great location and friendly staff. This place nickels and dimes the customer to death. The base fee of 11.95 seems reasonable, but when you see the five options for veggies, it's clear that there is a small spoonful of each, which means that most people are going to either add more veggie items at a buck each, or add a protein for 4-6 dollars, which brings the cost of the salad to roughly 20 bucks. As you check out, you see that there's a fee added for employee's health care or benefits. If employers can't afford to pay staff adequately, it seems they shouldn't pass the cost of doing business on to customers. read more

Upon entry to Mixt which is across from BART Station, I was impressed how clean and bright it was. Servers behind counters were pleasant. Unfortunately, got the worst salad which I ended throwing into the compost. When they presented it to me it didn't look appealing. The steak in the salad looked like grey, tough bits. The greens were wilted and I had a hard time Identifying other ingredients. Server offered chicken when I commented on the steak. So I got chopped chicken cubes that had no taste at all. It's a bit expensive but I downloaded their app and I work in the area. First order $5 off so I tried the Bachelor salad. It was good. Everything worked together. I subbed the tomatoes for carrots. I was full for the rest of my shift. I didn't know salads could be so filling. As a plus, you can get a free cookie during your birthday month. I got the chocolate chip cookie and it was soft on the inside, a good cookie. Fellow co-workers eat here regularly and use the customizations. The Agua Fresca of carrot, ginger and turmeric is good. It is fantastic to have a Mixt in downtown Berkeley! My husband and I went there today during the grand opening and had the Elote and Peachy salads. Such interesting combinations and fun, sometimes surprising ingredients. Everything fresh and delicious. The toffee cookie was so chewy and satisfying and my husband says the lemonade is exactly how he likes it--a little on the tangy side. This will be a regular place for us to go before Berkeley Rep performances as well as for lunch. read more
