I order from this place for my office down the street weekly. Every time I order these workers act like they don't want to be there working. The girl at the front desk is always on her phone texting and FaceTiming people. This one time I asked if they had just cup of water for my dog since we were sitting on the patio they said they have no water. I repeatedly asked for pesto and they gave me mayo. The time I ordered a panini the cooks seemed overwhelmed and took about 10 min to realize they skipped me. I was quite excited about trying this place! 5 stars on Uber Eats coupled with timely delivery to my location definitely piqued my interest. Online ordering was easy and I received a text with a tracking link. I watched in real time as updates were made ... preparing your order, out for delivery with estimated time of arrival, etc. Next, I got continual error messages about the delivery tracker (see photo). I waited outside during the delivery window and then tracked down a phone number for the restaurant. The guy who answered the phone explained that the order was cancelled on their end. When pressed to explain how that could happen without notifying the customer, he finally said the delivery driver picked up the order, but later returned it saying he doesn't deliver there. It's three miles from the restaurant and is listed as an option on Uber Eats. And no, my workplace is not in a sketchy neighborhood. The primary issue is that I did not receive notification from anyone ... UE, the restaurant, nor the delivery company. As a side note, UE's app said delivery comes directly from the restaurant. No third-party was mentioned. I asked for the delivery driver's name so that I could report him. The restaurant employee didn't have access to that information in his system. No idea who is picking up the food when the restaurant tells UE that they deliver directly? Bottom line, no lunch because the restaurant misrepresented their delivery zone and failed to communicate the cancellation in a professional manner. Yes, I received a refund, but I won't give them a second chance to waste my lunch period waiting on a delivery that won't arrive. Thoroughly disappointed. read more

Ordered the sashimi sumonomo salad with steak add-on via fooda and it was ok. Tuna was just fine and didn't taste especially fresh. The steak was a bit dry. Did not like the inclusion of wasabi peas. They make 'em pretty hefty, so by the last bite my tummy is satisfied & jumping for joy (which is not always the case with a bowl full of veggies). Most of their menu options pack in proteins and fun toppings like croutons or tortilla strips, and they'll mix the dressing right in for ya. You can also build your own salad to your heart's desire. Take note: there's a bowl of pita bread at the end of the counter, take some to bring your lunch to the next level! The layout makes it kind of hard to read the menu while waiting in line, so I always get overwhelmed when I order. It would be awesome if they could put up a sign with the menu near the line! With an hour time slot for lunch, I've never had a problem getting back to the office on time. Don't let that line scare you! Every time I visit I opt to build my own salad. These salads are huge and super filling given the large assortment of toppings they offer. They have everything from fruits and veggies to a large variety of proteins including nuts, salmon, chicken, tofu, tuna, steak, etc. I usually get a salad with a mixture of all their green options (romaine, spinach, etc.) and toppings such as cucumber, corn, onion, black beans, cilantro, carrots, edamame, tomatoes, avocado, and feta cheese. They also have more dressings to choose from than any other places I've been to in the Windy City. My favorites included the jalapeno ranch and the honey mustard emulsion! With every salad order you also get a piece of pita, which is great for scooping up the salad. There is plenty of seating to choose from, my favorite spot was this giant round table in the back right hand corner. The line to order sort of winds through the seating so depending on where you decide to plop down, it may feel a little crowded. That's why I always liked sitting in this little back nook. Mixed Greens is quite an interesting spot. It's located in a pretty popular place but semi off the beaten path in River North. Despite it's location in prime real estate, it was shockingly empty on a Saturday night. We were the only people in the place for an entire hour. This must be the norm because one employee stood in front of us to watch TV, not even realizing we were there despite our conversation and laughing, then seemed shocked to turn around and spot us. I had an amazingly awkward time dining at Mixed Greens due to the desolation and pumping top hit music. I ordered the ham & swiss panini which came on a huge bed of lettuce. Like plain lettuce. Tons and tons of plain lettuce. My dining companion got himself a salad so he ended up taking all my plain lettuce and mixing it into his salad. It may just be me but I don't enjoy eating leaves sans anything. The ham & swiss panini was good but I'd never go out of my way to have it again. I'm not entirely sure it warranted the price tag. We left just before 8pm and they were cleaning up, putting chairs up, etc even though closing time isn't until 9pm. My suggestion is they change their hours a la Saucy Porka and just cater to the lunch time working crowd. Clearly the weekends aren't working out for Mixed Greens when it's up against so many other downtown restaurants. However if you are looking for a healthy city option that is not at all busy, you will definitely find what you're looking for in Mixed Greens. read more

This place offers ROASTED MUSHROOMS which is oddly a rare find at salad joints. The line is out the door at noon and this restaurant moves it right along- trust me the wait is not as long as it looks. I am partial to the Greek Island Salad, I think it tastes great and it offers a nice reprieve from Subway salads and Galleria salads available within walking distance. The salad costs about $6 without chicken. They boast a nice looking sidewalk cafe that seems to be bustling with people at lunch time. The staff is friendly and extremely quick. Unfortunately, this space has been cursed by several restaurant failures in the recent past. I'd say the 3.5 average rating for Mixed Greens is pretty spot-on. It's in River North, but a bit away from the bustling area of RN. It's a good enough walk for me from work, so it's nice to have access to a salad/greens place. It's chipotle-style make-your-own salad, and it's got a variety of toppings, dressings, styles. I think the price is what you would expect for the area $7-12, depending on what you order and how much you add to your dish. Portion sizes are big, so that's nice. You can actually get relatively full from just eating greens. People are friendly and the line moves relatively quickly. Downsides are that it's actually underground - you have to walk down at least a half flight of stairs if not more. It's not as brightly lit as you'd like so it doesn't feel as "clean" as some other places might be... Yah, overall it's a decent place. A nice option for the area since there really aren't that many options in the west part of River North! read more

It's great that there is another lunch option in River North for those that work in the area. Given the affluence of the neighborhood, I was always surprised how most of the lunch options were seemingly far from healthy. A build-your-own salad place has been grossly missing and Mixed Greens fills the niche. However, that's about all Mixed Greens does--fili a hole. The food is very average (it's not hard to mess up a salad--though they manage that from time to time), however the experience--especially for a lunch place--is a complete disaster. The layout was poorly thought through as you enter down the stairs and basically into a line. The menu placement is not at all visible when standing in said line so people are constantly jumping in and out of line to read the menu. There are two signs for ordering; one for sandwiches and pizza, the other for salads, however they are basically the same station and the signs serve only to confuse. Because of the time it takes for the sandwiches and pizza to be prepared, there are always people milling about in the already constricted concourse area. The salad station is split in two, partially obstructed by a huge concrete pylon further complicating the ordering process. In the exposed kitchen you will notice many "managers" standing around looking disgruntled. I know they are managers because they are wearing cheap suits and gaudy gold rings and bracelets. Occasionally one will jump in the line mess your salad up because they have no clue what they are doing. Which brings me to another aspect: the inconsistency of the salads. There's no standard. One day you will get a lot of lettuce, another day maybe they are heavy handed with the dressing. I've had salads that have left me hungry and salads that I couldn't possibly finish. The line is long and convoluted because there is only one register, which is crazy with amount of people they are serving. "Pita" which is actually some type of wrap, is served out of a plastic grocery bag at the register. And there's no counter to put your food down on while trying to pay. Don't expect to eat inside because you will die of asphyxiation from the smoke pouring out of the pizza oven and inadequate ventilation. If you want to eat outside, get it to go so you don't have to walk all the way downstairs and push past people standing in line to return your bowl and silverware as there's no trash or repository outside or even at the top of the stairs by the entrance. If you are expecting the speed and precision of a New York-style build-your-own salad place, forget it. If you need to eat a salad to feel healthy and want to screw yourself out of your lunch hour and be frustrated, this place will do. But as for now you have little choice, though I understand Big & Little's has recently opened a salad bar which might be a better option. read more

Their vegetation was pleasantly expansive, looked okay but the protein seemed as if they'd been frozen leftovers from days before. I finally decided on the Sashimi Sunomono but knew better than to settle on their ahi tuna, hence switched it out for salmon. Not sure if switching the fish was an improvement, since my salmon was tough with an ever lingering eau d' freezer-burn. My stomach didn't feel right. Excellent salad and a bevy of choices for potato chips, but wow is it pricey! I tried the Caesar salad with salmon. Because I'm an absolute sucker for fish. With chips, the total came to $11.03. I guess since even McDonald's sells their salads for $7-$8 after tax this is par for the course, but: seriously, food industry, what is the deal with the 300% markup? Anyways. The ingredients were super fresh and the salad was well balanced. I loved the olives and the strong cheese. Still really expensive for a salad. I did like the Caesar dressing. Good texture, big flavors. Pretty much all I ask for in a dressing. :-) The fish was about 3 ounces, more or less. It looked a bit dry but did have herbs on it, and wasn't bland. Zapp's chips are a must-have here, if only because they weigh in at a hefty 2 ounces and they have flavors I've never seen before. I had the voodoo, which was a fantastic salty sweet turmeric-coated potato chip. They also have spicy Cajun, which I'm willing to take a run on next time. It's a good lunch option, and all things considered actually on the lesser end of lunch options in River North (where a sit-down burger will set you back $17 after tax and tip!) None of which sounds particularly appetizing - ever, especially today. So when my male coworker was like "Hey you wanna hit up the new salad joint?" I was like "uhh okay" because usually he wants to get burgers. And he knew what he was talking about. When I go for take out lunch I want wham bam thank you ma'am quick and dirty. I'm already miserable that I'm at work, I don't want to wait in line to contemplate my misery. This place is fast. And super nice (the staff as well as the actual salad bar - it looks really clean). And everything looks delicious and fresh. I got a black and blue salad (taking a walk on the wild side) and there was so much freaking steak in it that I had to ration my salad leaves and tomatoes. They put way too much dressing on the steak salad, it gets slimey. Just...blah. So, I wasn't feeling very hungry, wanted something light, and had a craving for soup. Mixed Greens has soup, so once again, I followed my office to there for lunch. They had three soup options, none of which sounded pleasing to me... but whatever, I was already there. Too late to back out. I ended up going with the clam chowder. BAD IDEA. After a few hours, on my way home from work, I was hit with a wave of nausea. Stomach pains. I'll spare you the gory details. Hi there- Im sad to report that ive found hair in my food 3 times at Mixed Greens. Im really depressed and upset about it because despite all the deliciousness and freshness of their business, my entire staff (theres thirty of us) all witnessed it so we now call MIXED GREENS the HAIR SALAD place. Ive called the manager three times to tell him how depressed we are because they do offer healthy lunches but all their meals come with a side of nasty hair. Their soup is also very good, the second time I went to pour it though, guess what...a stringy piece of hair was on the ladle. I called the cashier and showed her discretely because I wanted this place to work out. She had it removed right away. So my review is if you love fresh salads that are healthy, you will always leave with hair floss for after you are done. MIXED GREENS fix this for us, PLEASE! read more

It is very rare to find a healthy lunch in River North for under 10 bucks, let alone for $5.95. I eat here often and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is very friendly and they always add ingredients for me at no charge. I always get the Little Italy because I love the pasta that comes with it. My top 3 salads: 1) The Little Italy - If you like your salad with a little kick, this is the guy for you. They load this baby up with giardiniera peppers, I am not talking about the kind you find at the Jewel, but the good sweet and spicy kind that comes on the italian beefs. I find that adding extra cheese helps balance the salad out. 2) The cobb - Everybody makes a Cobb salad and most can't go wrong. If you are looking for protein, this guy has you covered with chicken, bacon and egg. If thats not enough for you, you can even get quinoa now. I usually get the asian sesame dressing as I find it leaves me feeling less full. 3) Buffalo Blue Chicken - This is my Friday salad, as this baby isn't helping beach season. Imagine those awesome chicken kickers that you can find at most wing places and now put them on a salad with some blue cheese. Yea, it is as awesome as it sounds. Definitely a place worth checking out. There was a man walking around in a suit who saw me grabbing some of the free pita bread they offer and stopped me and told me he had a fresh batch coming out soon and to wait.
