I had a wonderful customer experience. My sister and I stopped in to pickup a few items up that we needed for our beading project. We arrived 10 minutes before closing. We picked our items up and advised, Amber that we would hustle to the register before 6 pm. Amber, politely said we could stay another 5 minutes if needed. Of course we needed and wanted the extra time. Who wouldn't need more time shopping for beads! Once we collected what we needed and a few more items we wanted, Amber checked us out. Omg I adore this store!! I emailed them a few weeks ago and asked if they could help me convert my grandma's earrings into a necklace for my wedding (earrings give me sensory issues). They emailed me back quickly and said they could totally help if I bring the earrings in. I finally made the trip over there today and the woman working there was SO KIND. She took a look at the earrings and told me what options I had for converting them to a necklace. I went with a chain because it was easier and faster. She let me pick out whatever chain I wanted and triple checked to make sure I was comfortable with the length I chose, and then she made the earrings into two necklaces right there! I spent some time browsing afterwards and ended up coming home with a bracelet and some other beads that I'll just keep as trinkets. Highly recommend this place for anything you might need. This place is Bead-Dazzling! It's not just some sparkling bead, jewelry making, one stop shop but it's also a "joint." A bead hangout. A place wear people walk in and the staff know them by first name. It was cool and gave Mitch's beads street cred. I was there for about an hour and 8 or 9 customers walked in and all were greeted by first name. The staff is very knowledgeable. The owner helped a few people and made custom orders. He even educated customers on the types and quality of various beads and metals in the store. The front desk is run by the sweetest and most helpful lady. She took the time to teach me a few knots and how to make a traditional pearl necklace after I made my purchases. There is an adorable "mascot" by the name Toby. This place is amazing! Not the bead store I was expecting. I was expecting more. I've been to numerous bead stores around the valley and other towns. Mitch's bead has to be at the bottom of my list. There was no array of different beads. But only many round beads. And importantly the prices were outrageous!! I could get beads for a lot cheaper else where. I would recommend other bead stores to shop at! This bead store did not cut it for me. In addition, the ladies at the front were rude. They did ask if I needed help or greet me at all. Stopped in to this gem of a bead shop to grab supplies for a Chan Luu style wrap bracelet. Bead selection was INCREDIBLE. However, the biggest gem in the store was the sweetheart of an owner, Mitch. He assisted with helpful advice and recommendations for materials. Upon discovering he was out of a certain cording, he suggested I visit a competitor to purchase. He graciously endorsed the business like a loyal friend. Since I am a novice at any type of jewelry making, he suggested purchasing inexpensive supplies until I could decide if I would enjoy making jewelry in the first place. This place is awesome! The people (owners?) who work here are so kind, knowledgeable and generous with their time. I visited here in September and yes there were a couple customers with no masks on but I don't really expect employees to confront these people and cause themselves undue stress. I just kept my distance. The man who created me was so helpful and answered any question I had. He knows so much about stones. It blew my mind. I took up beading as a time passer and have never done it before but I figured why not? There are a few basic things I have no clue how to do like tie a knot in this elastic string. The man at the front called a lady and asked her to teach me how to do it. She was so nice and patient and taught me the basics of beading. I was amazed and so grateful for her time. As a long-time customer of Beads Galore (the store in Tempe that Mitch used to own with his brother Bernie), I was very disappointed when that store closed its doors in autumn of 2016. They had a huge selection of the most wonderful items at good prices. So when I heard that Mitch had opened his own shop in Gilbert, I was very happy. However, I wasn't happy about the prospect of an hour's drive. Gilbert is farther away from me than even Tempe. When I finally had a chance to go there last weekend, I was more than pleasantly surprised. I was so delighted, I stayed in that store for over two hours. Their website doesn't do the store justice. Despite the relatively small size of the shop (compared to the former giant), they had everything a dedicated beading enthusiast like myself could possibly want--and more! Bead-making supplies (thread, tools, findings, chain, etc.), and the nicest selection. Given the size of the store, they had to choose carefully what they carry, and what they have is a feast for the eyes. Semi-precious stones of all sizes and shapes, nicely polished and cut. This is only a small example of the stones: agate, aquamarine, quartz, amethyst, lapis, tiger eye in many stunning natural shades, some knockout pearls, so many beautiful stones I don't know the names of that naturally contain designs of all colors. Non-stone items, too: carved centerpiece pendants, the usual glass crystal so favored by many beaders, lampwork glass, some wood and bone and seed, and brass, silver and gold beads. What really impressed me was the quality--which was even better than that of Mitch's former store. One sign of quality from a place is the garnets they choose to carry. Most vendors sell garnets that are notorious for being poorly drilled and dyed. But NOT THESE. Mitch's garnets weren't dyed, they were well cut and drilled, high quality garnets that were very reasonably priced. Mitch and Lisa made all their customers welcome. Stepping into this store is like receiving an invitation into their well-appointed living room, where people go "Ooh!" and "Ahh!" as they stop and feel the energy of the stones and feast their eyes on the colors, shapes and sparkles. Mitch knows a LOT about gems--he's been in this business for a long time--and he was generous in sharing his knowledge of the stones, how to bead, and what were the best supplies for what the customer wanted to do. He never tried to sell me anything I didn't want. I ended up buying not only what I came there for (some hard-to-find very thin headpins), but I snagged a strand of garnets that begged me to take them home. With such quality at a fair price, how could I not? Even though this store is probably a bit out of the way for some people, it's definitely worth visiting. Come prepared to be dazzled...these are breathtaking treasures. There's something here to fit everyone's taste and budget. Thank you, Mitch, for persevering. And Lisa, you did an amazing job arranging your wares in this space. It's pleasing to the eye and everything is displayed so nicely--you managed to fit in so much without making it look crowded, Between the two of you, you've managed to create an atmosphere of fun and wonder, intimacy and appreciation for nature's treasures. I am sad that today was my LAST venture out to Mitch's beads. I drive over 15 miles to go there. Today the place was locked up with the lights out during their post business hours. The last time I made the journey, there were several "Karens" in the store not wearing face coverings. I informed an employee that I would not be purchasing anything there that day due to health and safety concerns about covid-19. Wow. Mitch's Beads is fantastic. Mitch's selection and quality is great and I was greated by Mitch himself seconds upon walking in. But the thing that really sets Mitch's apart is Trish. I had spoken with her on the phone and she had done some pricing for me and answered my questions about the project I wanted to do. When I came in the store she helped me with my selection and she even took the time to teach me some basic beading, knot-work, and how to use the necessary jewelry tools. (She offered, I didn't ask by the way.) I am a novice crafter, and it's kind of embarrassing how easy I thought my project was going to be compared to the work I actually need to put into it. I truly don't think I would have been able to do it without Trish and the time she spent with me. This woman has the patience of a saint. Apparently tying knots onto beads is really, really hard. She explained things slowly and in lots of different ways and never made me feel rushed or bad that I wasn't getting it.
