So I did my fair share of driving around Phoenix to different bead stores. I went to four in total. I was there for work so I was limited in time. If I could rank them in 1-4 I would rank this place number 1. Im new to the bead community so I'm a little num headed when it comes to the difference in beads. The entire staff was extremely helpful. They taught me so much in just in a matter of hours. Not once did they shy away from my questions ( as I had a ton) They were genuinely excited to help me understand all the different beads. Pricing: Um they have the best prices hands down. I started comparing my prices to other stores I went to before and BIG difference in price. His beads are amazing quality at the right price. Beads: They had so many different varieties of beads I'd never seen. Mind you I went to three bead stores in Puerto Rico and now four in Arizona. He still has the most unique ones I've ever seen. I can't stop raving about this place. If I could come to Arizona for a week and just be at that bead store and soak up the knowledge I would. Maybe my job will bring me back to Arizona for a week. When Beads Galore in Tempe closed its doors in autumn of 2016 (a store that Bernie had co-owned with his brother Mitch), Bernie opened his own shop in Mesa. There's no shlock here, everything is breathtakingly beautiful. When I visited, there were many Buddhist-themed items: lovely beads and serene wooden Buddhas and silk purses in the cases. Each item is clearly hand-picked with love. This store specializes in trade beads, special and unusual beads that aren't easily found elsewhere. Shell and bone and precious gems and handmade beads and centerpiece beads used for pendants...and on and on and on. This store is well worth visiting. read more

I bought some wire wrapped malachite pendants online and it came with cheap black cords so I wanted to get a nicer looking chain or cord to go with it. I accidentally found this store that sold all sorts of chains at really great prices! The gentleman there even helped me to cut part of the chain shorter. If Bernie doesn't have a bead you want, no one does. The selection is amazing and well-organized and extensive. Bernie seems to know every bead he owns. He was very friendly and helpful but without hovering and pressure. He even offered teach a class on beading. Also has bead bracelets and shows other jewelry with beading. Store appears small but same very well-used and thought out. Everything clearly marked. I will definitely return. He knows his business. read more

Take note of what they are charging you for and don't be distracted by the "sales". Otherwise friendly, but very rushed. The location is next to a Safeway in a strip mall. The store is rather small but expected as they specialize in beads. Their was a large selection of beads. The reason I am giving the place a 1 out of 5 is customer service. They didn't understand what I was asking for and they got irritated at me. A man and woman. I just discovered Bernie's Beads and I'm so glad I did! I knew as soon as I walked in that I would be like a little kid in a candy store! I was immediately greeted by Alex and his friendly personality. I was a bit overwhelmed because there were beads and charms everywhere. Bernie's beads is a local secret. His beads are of the highest quality and he sourced them from all over the world (Africa, Asia, the Middle East). Bernie really takes so much time to meet the needs of his customers. You won't find the different tribal and cultural beads and pedants at your normal craft store or Hobby Lobby/Michael's Crafts. I was just driving by and saw this place. Stopped in to grab some supplies to make a mala necklace for a friend and they had all that I needed and more! Some things are a little pricey but they are all genuine stones so it's justifiable. Also GREAT customer service, very helpful and able to answer any questions I had with knowledge. This is a great bead store. I shopped at Beads Galore for a lot of years, and was really upset when they closed. Then I found out about Bernie's. They're run by some of the same people who ran Beads Galore. They have my favorite items from the old store, and their prices are really good. The staff are so friendly, and go out if their way to help you find just what you're looking for. I'm so glad they opened up to replace the old store. They're a very long drive for me, as I live in Peoria, and they're in Mesa near Dobson and Guadelupe, but they are worth the drive when I'm looking to replenish my favorite supplies.
