This place has really great food, but the service is offensively horrible. Last year, We ordered a Gyro platter that comes with a salad.. Delivery guy had left and guess what, no salad! When I was a kid, I used to come to Mitchell's all the time with my family. We were "regulars", and I always had to have the Buster Brown sundae which was delicious. They had the best home made whipped cream! Over the years, the owners/management have changed a number of times and I have not been there as frequently. I called for a delivery order. I ordered chicken wings and a pastrami sandwich. The women on the phone that took my order was extremely proficient. She was polite, clear and patient. The food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time, and and the delivery person was polite. The chicken wings were juicy, properly cooked and had a nice breading to them. However the pastami sandwich was a miss. Some parts of the meat were gray and tough and it tasted a little spoiled. The potato salad that came with it was nicely cooked and dressed but a little underseasoned. I would order again but that pastrami was not a good choice. read more

Went there for a family dinner. Large portions of food at nice prices. While being seated, the waiter asked what the occasion was and we mentioned it was a birthday dinner. After dinner, while we were getting ice cream the staff came out with a special dessert and sang Happy birthday. A very nice touch. Dinner for nine on a Tuesday nite was under $200 including tip, with a good bit taken home for the next days lunch. The soups and ice creams were truly outstanding. I went there for breakfast for mother's day today...left disappointed. The food had an odd taste as if the eggs were rotten and the bacon had almost a weird mixture of raw and burnt at the same time. The home fries were undercooked on the inside but burnt on the outside. The garden omlet lacked flavor and the veggies were undercooked. On the plus side the service was quick, the place is clean, the coffee is awesome, the toast was good, and the chicken tenders and the fries from the kids menu are cooked well. This is the original Mitchell's. Not that dump in Oceanside. The staff in Valley Stream are marvelous. Alonso is the best waiter. He has been around for years and lives to serve. We always eat the specials. The management is very willing to take back anything that just is not to your liking. We eat there every week. We like it and recommend this restaurant. read more

I began going here because the other diner under by the railroad tracks on Sunrise highway had closed down. Found them to be highly overrated, Breakfast tasted more like cardboard,but they became somewhere my husband and I went for quick bite with low expectations. On my last visit we were seated and waiting for approximately 15 minutes without an acknowledgement from the waiter who was Hispanic. A couple was seated and within seconds he went over to them to take their order.Incidentally they too were Hispanic. We complained to the cashier in the front because he ignored us when we tried to tell him that we had been waiting for a while before that couple came in. The cashier simply shrugged her shoulders and gave us a disingenuous "sorry" and continued with her job. We then left. Cardboard cuisine was not worth being disrespected. I eat in this restaurant often, and have for many years. The food is fine. The delivery service is AWFUL. They always forget something. If you order from seamless, then call about the forgotten item... they tell you that they prefer that you call your order in! I have called in person, they are just as bad. They should quit seamless. I asked him why he was on seamless, and he said "to see if we could get more business" He did not offer to send my missing item, he instead suggested that I call it in next time! I was so annoyed that I said I wanted the rest of my order, which arrived an hour later. I will not be ordering from here again. read more

I work close to this diner and have ordered food for delivery on multiple occasions. The food is delicious. However... when they hand the phone over to a woman that handles deliveries I am greeted with a extremely rude and nasty attitude. When asked to repeat herself or when asking a question about what I'm going to spend money on I am answered with a insane amount of attitude. I expected more and I don't know why. I went here once when I was too little and dumb to order anything more than chicken fingers so I had no true opinion of this place, but I've always wanted to retry it. Just recently they re did everything and it looks really cool. It made me want to try it so I did and honestly, I would have rather went to a regular diner that I trust. The food was bland. There was truly nothing special about it at all. I got a hot open turkey sandwich which usually you can't really go wrong with at a diner. The turkey was probably boars head and the bread tasted like it was on the discount shelf of a supermarket. The broccoli was dry and the mashed potatoes had little to no butter or salt. The only reason I'm giving this place even 2 stars is because the ice cream Sunday I got was really good. I got a peanut butter cup Sunday that was extremely tasty BUT....when I asked for hot fudge it came cold and all the peanut butter sauce was on the bottom. Not well constructed. I heard of this place because I won a gift certificate from the soccer club! I decided to call this morning to place a take out order. I was transferred to a guy, first off, he complained he couldn't hear me and ask me to speak louder. Secondly, he started to get rude and annoyed almost like he didn't wanted to take my order. Anyways I placed the order, without any goodbye greeting, he hung up. I called back to add French toast right after I hung up, in his exact words "can you tell me your entire order, I'm very busy here, are you sure that's all you want now". I was so upset I canceled the order! First off, he's in a business where you need to be patient, courteous and polite. Won't be ordering from there again.
