We had Mitchell Mechanical replace a compressor that had blown a couple months earlier, after less than a year of use. They came and replaced it. Their recommendation was to replace the old system. When the previous compressor blew, it was a loud explosion in it and it had blown oil all over the coils. They didn't clean them. The original A/C system will take 42-48K BTU compressors. They put in a 42K, even though the previous one was 46. Because of the smaller size, they had to put an adapter onto the line to go from 7/8" to 3/4". We had experienced several compressor failures in the last couple years. After calling in an A/C repairman who came recommended by several friends, he looked the system over and found out why the compressors kept failing. No one had ever changed the connector, a $20 part that should be changed with the compressor. This has cost us thousands of dollars over 6 years. If any of the companies had looked at the system, the disconnect, the circuit breakers, the connector, they would have figured out why the system didn't keep working. It wasn't the age. The compressors, condenser and fan were new. It was the lack of caring. They came, fixed what was obviously wrong and went their way. I am really disappointed in any company that just takes the easy way out, not really looking to find the source of the problem, especially when it is a simple part sold for less than $20. The only reason I am giving one star is that they showed up on time and the tech was pleasant. The system ran a while, but was doomed to fail the moment it was stressed. Imagine how I felt when the technician working on it now walked in and showed the part that had failed and told me how much it cost. That is ridiculous. Any technician who has gone through A/C training knows that those small part failures can kill a compressor. If you use MM, make sure the tech is doing all their job. read more
