I usually trust my fellow Yelpers' reviews. If I'd seen the rating of Mister Ups, I wouldn't have gone there. Luckily, my friend took me there. When the waitress put the Chicken Condon Bleu sandwich in front of me, it smelled DELICIOUS. And it tasted as good as it smelled. My friend order a Black Flannel Disco Montage IPA, and I asked for a sip. It is now my all-time favorite beer. Unfortunately, I can't get it here in Louisiana. :-( read more

Unless you are going specifically to sit at the bar, I would not recommend going here for dinner. We made reservations for 10 people to celebrate a special birthday. Despite having a reservation, we waited 90 minutes for our meals. When the food finally arrived, it came out in waves about 10 minutes apart. By the time one end of the table received their meals, the other end had already finished eating. Our appetizer was delivered at the same time as our entrées and had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp. It was dried out and tasted of old oil. Our waitress appeared overwhelmed and received no visible support from management. We were not offered drink refills, and we were never asked if everything was satisfactory. The child in our group was served a burnt grilled cheese sandwich that required scraping off the charred portions just to make it edible. It was also made with rye bread and unmelted shredded cheese -- neither of which were indicated on the children's menu. After 2.5 hours, when we requested the check, we were told they could not separate it -- despite having informed the waitress at the beginning of the evening whose tabs were grouped together. We have hosted family events there before and have never encountered this policy. It was not posted or communicated to us in advance. As someone who has worked in customer service and management for over 30 years, I understand how challenging the industry can be. However, communication, organization, and support from management are essential if you expect guests to return. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that standard. We will be choosing to celebrate our family gatherings elsewhere in the future. read more

Don't judge a restaurant by the front door. Inside lies an inviting dining area, lively bar, and great patio overlooking Otter Creek. The inside has changed very little since my last visit 15 years ago, but the outdoor space has been nicely expanded. The Cross Street bridge sounds like the occasional rumble of thunder, but really not noticeable even at rush hour. I'm not sure why the other reviews aren't better; the food is about what you'd expect, the beer list is respectable with good specials, and a solid kid's menu. Love this place! read more

She tried it anyway didn't like it so I took a bite it was awful told the waitress she did nothing at all just walking away. We have eaten there lots of times and they have always separated the bill no signs stating that they changed things Most of us wanted to use our cards my brother in law felt bad so he paid the whole bill. Visited this place from Ohio. This place was recommended by coach from Middlebury college . This was a very first stop for us after a very long drive. Very rude owner or manager women. Surprise how they still stay in business. Not a good first impression of the city because of first experience with local business. Now I reconsider sending my kid to Middlebury college because I do not want my kid deal with and live around rude people. If we were not very hungry and did not ordered food already, I would walk away and never come back here again. This place made me feel unwelcome and they really don't care how you feel about them. I was visiting Vermont on a bus trip and we stopped for lunch in Middlebury. I'm glad we picked here for lunch. They seated us on the deck overlooking the river. It was very pleasant. Our waitress was upbeat and very accommodating. I shared a Reuben sandwich with my friend. It was very tasty and the fries were seasoned and crispy. The draft beer menu was very good with many local beers. The draft beer price was excellent at 6.00 for 16 ounces. We shared the mud pie for desert. Great atmosphere in this pub/restaurant on the banks of Otter Creek. Outside dining is a super experience during the summer. The bar area is warm and rustic. The food is fantastic. Seeing the review from Herb that their server was berated by the management maybe explains why our server seemed so beaten down. Not sure why people complain about the service, it's friendly enough and swift. There are more things to consider. It's been around forever and appears to not have been cleaned since opening. The dank smell and sticky floors/tables would be reminiscent of a frat house that Middlebury college never sanctioned. Why is this relevant? It could be the food poisoning I was delivered and dealt with for days after eating a smash burger, rings and a few beers. Perhaps the tap lines haven't been cleaned or the kitchen's cleaning protocol is similar to the rest of the place. Mister downs for sure. read more

I was there last night (a Friday night) having some drinks at the bar, and the night started off fine. Although the bartender seemed to have a very unpleasant attitude. But I try not to judge because everyone has their days.. until the music was shut off abruptly at 10:07. There were still quite a few people at the bar at this time (probably around 15) but the bartender's attitude made it very clear that we were no longer welcome to stay. As well as the music being killed, all of the chairs in the dinning area were up. This is something I would understand maybe an hour or later after closing, but they are open until 10pm and again this all occurred at 10:07. Plus it was a Friday night ‍ I felt like I was rushed to leave because of how awkward and unwelcome of an environment it had become. I had an awkward experience Saturday night . We frequent this location and have usually had a good experience. Greeted by a usual face, explained we had no reservation and was told by (steph I believe ) the wait would be brief as it was. Sat up stairs and was welcomed by a staff member sue who started by complaining she was not feeling well and didn't have a lot of tables. She also sang at the table and thought the entire meal. The remainder of the evening went as expected considering the busy weekend. Food was good as always and came as quick as expected. However we got to experience Sue dragging a table away from a large party explaining she wanted more tables, then complained to another staff member that she wasn't making any money. we typically enjoy a sweet and relaxing meal on their deck beside the creek , watching wildlife , soaking up the sun . today however our very attentive and pleasant server was berated infront of us for apparently not clocking out on time and told she should haven't accepted our table when she was toward the end of shift. if she hadn't taken our table we would have waited longer for service. waitstaff only receives 6.00/hr from the restaurant. If this coworker feels she needs to reprimand another worker , it would be prudent of her to take the coworker aside and do it in private. It ruined our previously blissful experience. She had a very positive attitude the whole time, we could see she was busy but still visited our table and made sure we had everything we needed. I have been here a few times (pre-covid) and now in the middle of another peak. Staffing shortages are at an all time high which makes it tough. The atmosphere was definitely pub style, very casual. Waitress was ok, somewhat grumpy, but thats the norm these days. The food came out really quick, in under 10 mins, but it was all cold, like barely warm at all. Unmelted cheese on the wrap, cold fried pickles. On top of that, the name of the chicken tenders made them unappetizing and then when they came I was creeped out by the shape, it was like the squiggly parts of calamari. "Please cook it well done. I REALLY don't like them mushy, please cook it WELL DONE. I promise I won't complain if it's burnt." Is what I say. The burger that was served to me on the STALE and untoasted cold bun was a pile of mush. Barely warm...to prove that point the cheese was barely melting. It was so gross i really couldn't eat it. The fries were edible. I'm sorry but if you have a whole menu of regular burgers why would it be hard to cook a veggie burger? Our server was then again less than interested in why I didn't eat or want to take any of it home. My husband ordered the peanut chicken wrap and described the peanut sauce as "peanut butter with some soy sauce in it" and on a scale of 1-10 10 being the best it was a 4. Hi, I bought the chicken Marsala yesterday only to find out the it came with Brown Gravy and no taste of wine. I should have sent it back but this is the second time in my life that I bought it in a restaurant. My sister used to make it for me but she recently passed away. When I got home I looked up how to make a Marsala sauce and sure enough, what was on my chicken WAS NOT a Marsala sauce but a brown gravy, I thought restaurants used professional cooks but evidently their chef was having a very bad day or the person is not a professional chef. I thoroughly enjoyed Mister Ups. My wife and I were in town from Upstate New York, made it a point to hit as many spots in Shoreham, and Mister Ups was on our list.
