    The menu at Canteen Creemee.
    Garnet M.

Cute little quick service shack serving a wide menu of creative burgers, sandwiches and creemees. We ordered a combination of maple/chocolate creemee that was the size of my head. I came for the maple and was not sure how it would work with the chocolate. It was a great combination! The chocolate was so rich that it was like eating ganache. Delicious! I heard and read about their fried chicken. We'd already had dinner, so I made an extra stop the next day for a to go order to have at home. Even not fresh from the fryer, it was still amazing chicken served with sliced pickles, cole slaw, a spicy mayo based sauce and some corn bread. Go to Canteen Creemee on a gorgeous summer evening, order fried chicken, a burger, or something else delicious then go to the grassy area nearby, spread out a picnic blanket and tuck in. Go back in line and get a creemee. You'll thank me! I know it.

This review is coming to you from Philly. I found this place online and knew I wanted to check it out while heading home from Montreal. We also hit up some waterfalls afterward. You can tour Ben & Jerry's beforehand, but don't get your ice cream from there, GET IT FROM HERE!! Absolutely amazing! The staff here KNOW what they're doing. Loved the signs about how it's worth the wait. They even post wait times for food and creemees on a chalkboard by the cash register. Wait for your creemee by the window. As for the food, they'll give you a beeper and it will go off when your order is ready. Those they aren't licensed for indoor seating, there is an indoor seating option next door. There are also a few round picnic tables on the side of the building and standing bar counters. They even have a water station. Let me tell you about the Bahn Mi Fried Chicken Sandwich. You have to HEAR the crunch as I take a bite in my video. Trying the Bahn Mi Fried Chicken Sammie. 9/10 easy. The flavor profile is incredibly crafted. Seasoned extremely well! Garlic Aoili, cucumbers, pickled peppers, carrots, cilantro. The chicken has a wonderful crisp and juicy and tender on the inside. The bread was perfect, great crunch on the outside while still fluffy but toasted on the inside. I'm a tough critic, but this was one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The twist available this day was Thai Tea and Maple. However, they easily accommodated my request of maple and chocolate which you can see in the photo. The Creemee is 100% worth the hype. The chocolate was rich and melted in my mouth. The maple was elegant. The flavors together were epic. I wish I got some fried chicken to go. Do not pass on this place, it's the real deal. Do be mindful that about 10-15 mins out you may lose cell service. Just come prepared for that and have yourself a grand ole time ! I can't wait to come back one day !!

Small fries and falafel roll that my wife requested not to have... oh well.

I ordered the Banh Mi and my wife ordered the falafel burger with no roll. The person taking the orders must have been new because every question I asked about a menu item he had to go check. He was friendly so it was ok. We also ordered a small fries. The food came up in 25min. While we waited outside. Definitely a place to eat outside if weather permits.

    Uh, needs better translation.

I had lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered at the counter (only option) and got a buff(alo) chicken sandwich and small fries. The wait was ok and they give you a buzzer to let you know when you're order is ready. There's not a lot of indoor seating, and there's not much atmosphere going on, unless you count the sticky notes on the walls praising the creemees (and other things). The sandwich had the biggest piece of chicken I've seen on a sandwich, along with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Some slices of pickles on the side. Fries were an overflowing cup, enough for two people. The sandwich was a little messy (usually an ok thing with me) and I used many napkins. For desert, I had to have a maple creemee. Very Good. What else is there to say about Canteen Creemee's creemees?

Amazing food and even better ice cream. Nice to sit outside at the picnic benches. Really one of the highlights of Waitsfield.

    Creamees!

Great place for ice cream, a soft serve that Vermonters call a "creamee". We went back a second time for food. A little less impressed. Took long to come out of the pick up window and fries, onion rings, fish sandwich were over fried to the point of approaching in a few minutes more being burned. Plus they piled our onion rings so high that the bag fell over into the parking lot, had to throw out half of the bag, wasting money! Would go back for the ice cream, not so much the food, sorry! You go inside, stand in line , and order. Your food will come out of a Window as you wait outside. Informal atmosphere. My dining partner had stomach rumblings afterwards with the over fried, dried out, nubs of food, so beware of that. The Caesar salad I ordered besides was ok.

We have been here a couple of times to get creemees, & loved them. But today we had their food too, and omg LOVED it! Fried Chicken Banh Mi - a giant, 2-piece crunchy fried white meat chicken tender sammich, with the proper herbs, pickled veg & sauces to transform it Fish & Chips - 2 huge pieces of blazing hot, crunchy fried fish, excellent fries, slaw, & a grear tartar sauce Each of these orders could have fed two people! Of course we had to get creemees afterwards too. The dairy free pineapple was like Dole Whip, & the vanilla (w/bean flecks!) and strawberry twist were like summer in a cup. Service was friendly, & food came up in reasonable time for freshly made to order food. I will definitely be back for more of this deliciousness!!

I've gotten takeout from here a few times when I am in the area. They usually offer pretty interesting menu items so it's always worth a try. My last visit I heard along the grapevines that they were serving Pho. It was a terribly cold weekend so Pho sounded like a great idea. Although it was going out of my way, I made it a point to visit. When I got there I scoped out the menu trying to locate the Pho. I didn't see it advertised but I did notice a common misspelling of the word "Banh" which means bread. I walked up to the counter and inquired about the Pho. They told me that they indeed had it so I went ahead and ordered. While it was up there I casually mentioned that their spelling (bahn) was wrong. The guy taking our order looked like he could not be bothered. Then he responded "yeah we know, it's an easy mistake". As a Vietnamese-American, I love when places offer nods to my culture. But alongside that, correctly spelling the item you are trying to pay homage to is equally important. It's not the misspelling that is offensive to me, it's the attitude given to someone who educating you is offensive. The pho was decent, better than I expected for a non-Vietnamese owned/specializing restaurant but the service could be better.

Amazing onion rings! Corn dogs were perfect and of course the maple cremee. Would definitely return. Would have gone again but they were only open weekends while we were there.

    Pumpkin and Vanilla swirl creemee
    Gloria L.

This place has the creamiest soft serve I've ever had! I got the pumpkin spice and vanilla swirl creemee and it was absolutely delicious. Very rich flavors and look how cute it is! 10/10 recommend this place, will definitely try the hot food next time since the menu looked amazing.

My sister's unique reaction to her corn & basil creamee
    Bobbi S.

We ordered two very delicious, very filling & fresh tasting ice creams/creamees here & LOVED them both. Corn & basil twist was tasted truly like fresh basil, but not much corn to it. Fudge brownie sundae was out of this world. Huge, chocolatey, filled with chunks of brownies & coated with a crunchy layer of chocolate syrup. There is seating outside, a water jug for "cleansing your palate" & cool music (think, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, etc), a full food menu, friendly service & oh, so yummy, decadent creamee/ice cream.

Overrated. Chicken is from Costco and owner is rude. Teenage kids working there are great and creemees are good, however.

Pizza remains good, with an enjoyable, crisp, thin crust that falls somewhere between St. Louis style and New York style. It make the kiddos happy especially when they do their own builds -- a pesto base for one kiddo, marinara for the other. In years past, we had issues with over-salting and over-cheesing. Not this time around. Salads are a bit meh and small and overpriced for what they are, but ah well. I never seem to remember the lesson! I know staff were working hard, but b/c of the crowds, there were long waits and little check-in. We had to flag folks down for more water, a delayed dish, and at the end the check. Next time: takeout!

Thankfully this place had a bar, so the wait wasn't bad... we even talked to another patron who was also waiting; he was extremely kind and we had a great conversation! Parking was easy and the lot is a fairly decent size. Staff was extremely busy, so it took a little time to actually order to go (we weren't in any rush!). The restaurant is definitely a locals' spot where people hangout or takeaway. The pizzas are quite large and what we ordered was pretty good! We definitely had left overs. I can't say it was the best pizza we had, but it definitely helped the cravings. *THE PIZZA-PIZZA: Red Sauce, Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Sausage, Green Bell Peppers, Red Onion: Big (16") $27. In the end, I can say I would be back to try other dishes.

Coming from 2 hostels on this side of the US with more influx of guests, I was confused by why there were no signs on how to enter for check-in or a reminder of lobby hours. There was nothing in front saying guests should go to the back to enter but yet there are steps leading to a front door that I later found out is always locked. No instructions on how to locate the lobby in the email either. I stayed in a 8-bed dorm room above the restaurant and check-in office. The room faces the road so you'll hear road noise since the one window is left open for the portable air conditioner. There was another dorm room right behind. Light sleepers will need an earplug. The bathroom was very clean, colorful, and had modern, cute features. Other things to note: - Not sure there is a shuttle (common with other hostels in the region) - Not sure there are lockers - There are bedside lights by every bed and power outlets are on the bottom bunks only. - The dorm room had a ceiling fan and portable air conditioner - There was Body wash in the shower but no shampoo or conditioner. - There are 2 or 3 toilets and 1 shower upstairs in that building. - The kitchen fridge is cute but small in size for the number of beds. - There are 2 living/sitting rooms - There are some board games available - There is a restaurant on-site. - A brew of coffee is made every morning. - There was no stove to cook

At $26 and $29 per dish, we were hoping for slightly larger portions of coleslaw or sides. The interior was a bit dark, though it fit the overall vibe very well.
