Some friends invited me to brunch, we sat outside on the deck but inside was nice. The owner Ryan is such a nice guy and talked with us ; I asked to hear more about the hostel. The bartender today wasn't very friendly but the Bloody Mary was good, it just took way too long to get a drink before brunch. The food was good and it came out pretty quickly, I had the Salmon Benedict and hash browns, it was delicious!!! The waiter was good and friendly, I would definitely go back. I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for the bartender.

Sadly, they are no longer a dining destination - only serving burgers and only on Thursdays. Bar is open several nights.

Five of us recently stayed at the Slide Brook Lodge and had a great time. We rented the 5 bed…read moreprivate apt upstairs (the efficiency) for about $200 with tax. At $40/person/night, this was an unbeatable deal. The private apt can house five or even six (if two people share a full bed). The apartment was perfect for us. The beds were really comfortable, and the kitchen was great for breakfast in the morning before hitting the slopes, and the washer/dryer helped to dry wet gloves. There was a large flatscreen tv and comfortable living room (shared with the other hotel guests, but we never saw anyone using it) and also a really great outdoor hottub that we used everyday. Sugarbush is a mile away (and there's a bus stop across the street from the lodge). On the ground floor of the lodge is crowded tavern with great live music, and a foosball table. Sometimes the music would be audible from the room, but it was never a huge problem. Alex took good care of us and made great suggestions on things to do/eat in the area. He was also nice enough to let us checkout in the late afternoon (which meant we could shower before our long drive home on our last day of skiing). Besides our private apt upstairs, the other rooms of the lodge are small and bare and hostel-like. Check the website for pictures of those. You wouldn't call this place luxurious per se, but for a group of young people it's perfect -- really comfortable and affordable and got the job done. Highly recommended.

I just love this ridiculous place…read more My family has a vacation home in the valley, and whenever possible on Saturdays we try to take the drunk bus (free shuttle service on saturday nights) over to Slidebrook or Tevere. Things to know about Slidebrook: 1) Crowd is mixed at the bar, but often includes rowdy young 20-somethings staying at the hotel. Shenanigans often ensue, but there are always folks of all ages here. 2) The space itself is pretty freaking small, but I love this about it. Super intimate, great skibar layout. They cram the band in the corner and make it work. Awesome acoustics is a bonus. 3) The bartenders (little Jenny and big Jenny) are the shit. They are the PERFECT bartenders - a mix of super fun and inappropriate with a hint of "will smack a brotha down if he gets out of hand". Really great and hilarious people. 4) The bands are always sick. Dancing ensues. 5) There is a hottub upstairs that you can just go use. It is infamous and often full of drunk kids from New Jersey. But hey, you only live once. Highly recommend this place, just ignore whatever the 21 year olds are doing and go with a group of friends. We always end up staying way later than intended.

It's interesting to me that Castlerock probably shares the same kitchen, management and ownership…read moreas Rumble's Kitchen, barely 10 feet away. But the experience is just so much less... efficient. We came on a day when the mountain was not crowded (a weekday post Christmas and New Year) and were hoping to do a quick in and out to get back to the beautiful, sunny day and good ski conditions. Castlerock had another plan. I think the staff -- all very friendly young people from Latin and South American countries per their nametags -- were probably spread thin, but it took a very, very long time for anyone to come by and take our order (around 30 minutes) and then a long time (another 40+ minutes) for food to come. We enjoyed it when it did come -- but of course we'd had quite some time to whet our appetites! C-Rock Grain Bowl (mixed greens, warm quinoa, sweet corn, roasted butternut squash, pickled red onion, peppadew peppers, crumbled feta, toasted sunflower seeds, pesto vinaigrette; $16.50) was a well conceived and substantial salad, but not entirely well executed. I would've enjoyed the bowl just as well without the from-frozen, rubbery corn, with half the amount of dressing -- and if one wishes to nitpick, quinoa that was warm as advertised, rather than stone cold. The chili ($12.50) was Sugarbush ski mountain standard, the same stuff that's served in the cafeteria, at Rumble, at Mt. Ellen, etc... Our littles enjoyed it as always. The CRP Smash Burger (6 oz angus patty smashed on the griddle, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion on a toasted potato roll; $21) was similarly standard issue resort-wide -- and also something you could probably pick up at any pub in any city or town in the US. It's predictable. The primary consumer always knows what he's getting and enjoys it. Turkey club sandwiches (roasted turkey breast, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, black garlic aioli, toasted sourdough bread; $18.50) were quite well stuffed with deli meat and served with the same deliciously low-brow, seasoned fries that are served everywhere on the resort. The primary consumers enjoyed them. Castlerock Pierogies (Polish potato and cheddar dumplings, caramelized onions, chives, sour cream; $16) are a new addition as of the 2023-24 winter season. They came well pan fried, filled with potato and cheese, topped with browned (not caramelized) onions if one is to nitpick, no chives, and loads of sour cream. I am not a knowledgeable consumer -- we generally get them from street carts in NYC, not from homemade sources -- but we enjoyed this offering. Food and the standard roster of VT beers: fair to enjoyable. Resort pricing and slow service: not completely intolerable.
