Several years ago we hired Mission to put in a pool for us. I did write a review for them at that time, but mysteriously it has disappeared. So I am writing it again. The good stuff: the pool is gorgeous and the design met all our expectations. The sales person worked with us to find the best solution for our yard. Patrick was the project manager and did an amazing job. Absolutely amazing: patient, understanding and coordinated everything to exceed our needs. They have an abundance of choices for tiles, grout and design. The not so good? We had some issues with it after all was done and we were on a temporary pool cleaning contract as part of the deal. The pool cleaner was not a kind person and difficult to deal with. Additionally, we had to deal with a customer service person who was also kinda rude. It was an expensive venture and all in all, we felt we received what we were looking for. If I had any advice I would tell you to get a lot of quotes to ensure you are getting the best deal. If you are concerned about the project completion date, ask if you can get a completion agreement. In closing, the pool has provided us with a lot of happiness and for that we are grateful to Mission. read more

Mission Pools installed a 6x7 jacuzzi about 3 years ago. All went well. Recently there was an issue regarding the coping and some stains that were appearing. Brett, the Service Manager was very prompt and sent out 2 service men (Ryan and Rick) who attended to the situation. Mission Pools built an amazing pool for us on time, budget and without much stress. Great work by Dennis Miramontes, Johnny Woods, Michelle Egen and the rest of the Mission Pools team! Our pool is a 17x30, 100 feet perimeter free form shape pool and an 8x9 SPA. We had pebble sheen blue surf finish. We signed the contract in October and the pool was started on April 30th. Bid Process: Prior to hiring Mission Pools, we had nine bids. After a lot of due diligence, we came down to three companies: Majestic, Premier and Mission Pools. Mission Pools sales representative Dennis had the best communication skills. He always responded to phone calls, emails, and texts. The pool building industry is booming and just getting a sales guy to come out is a big deal. In fact, one pool company would not even come out to give a bid without charging a consulting fee. Other pool builders' sales reps were so busy to return my calls or texts, it took forever to answer some basic emails. Dennis provided apple-to-apple competitive pricing. To finalize the deal (and the design) we visited their office in Escondido and after a few hours of negotiation we signed the deal. The last drop in the bucket, the cherry on the cake was their killer smoking deal they have on solar. Mission Pools has been around forever, they do 90% of the work in house and they build everything from Olympic size pools to small, tiny residential pools. They have a stellar reputation in the community. There were things they told us during the sales/bid process that other pool companies did not even mention. Permit, Engineering Plans and etc: Mission Pools got us a Poway permit in just a few weeks after signing the contract. Since they have been around so long, they personally know city workers and they especially know what they are doing. Layout Day: Johnny Woods and Dennis came out to layout our pool. We had an enormous number of questions and they were very patient and accommodating. Excavation / Dig Week: Great work by the excavation crew. They got it done very quickly even though our side yard was tight, and the backyard was hard to maneuver around in. George and Moses are real experts for digging. Plumbing & Equipment Set, Structural Steel, Electric and Gas, Shotcrete work was done so well that we passed the city inspection with no issues reported. Mission Pools does Shotcrete and almost everything else in house (except plaster). Most San Diego pool builders outsource most of the work. For coping we opted for pre-cast and had to wait (only 5 weeks) for Pacific Stone to manufacture the pre-cast coping. Pebble Sheen blue-surf pool surface was put in one day by Gardner Inc (this is the only thing they outsource) and Gardner did a great job. Filling and Startup: Jesus from Mission Pools to start up the pool and teach us all about the pool equipment gadgets and he was very helpful. We have Pentair equipment and have the screen logic app which is great. Five Stars to Mission Pools, they continue to be San Diego's greatest and most reliable pool builder. read more

Mission Pools built my pool in 1980. During construction, it had rained, and mud had covered the rebar, and to make matters worse the gunnite truck was on schedule to arrive. Bruce Dunn and Jeff Dunn came out to dig out the mud! A few days later, we were on vacation during the pool's construction, they noticed a water leak by our front door, turned off the valve to the house, and prevented the small flood that inundated the front bedroom from spreading to the whole house. 45 years later now: Our pool needed re-tiling and re-plastering. The filter and heater needed replacing. They've found a leak, repaired it, the new tile and plaster look beautiful. They've been in business over 50 years. They've helped the community with the City's pool, they've helped the NMSS society with equipment so those with MS can use a public pool on the coast, and they've created amazingly beautiful pools. I was overcharged because the tech failed to check for leaks when he did the repair and had to come back a second time. The service department is awful at communicating and failed to heed my instructions that I would be out of town and sent the tech when I could not be there to supervise. I asked for a small price adjustment and was refused. Make sure they offer you a precise estimate because to them cost is not their problem and they don't care. We finished our pool and spa with Mission last month. We continue to have great customer service. We started the process with Brad and our designer, Tony. They both did a great job helping us come up with a design to fit our budget and answer our tons of questions. Tony picked out our tile, and nailed it. We wanted something gray, and not blue like a lot of pools, and we love it. The real star of our project was our PM, Travis Dunn. He was reliable, knowledgeable, and even now, continues to impress us with great customer service. We decided after starting to use the spa that the light was too bright. We mentioned it to our pool service tech, Jesus (who is also great!), and now just a week later, Travis came by and installed a dimmer. My job is a full yard, pool build that will be in the $150k to $175k range and their service is terrible. I am not big on writing reviews but I am willing to take the time to do so when I believe the company has gone above and beyond for us. Mission Pools designed our backyard with amazing vision and attention to detail. Dawn and Bruce brought us in to show us beautiful 3D models and arial views of what our backyard could look like. I am not good with grasping a vision if I can't see physical layouts of the design. They were more than willing to tweak the design as much as we wanted and worked with us to get it to100%. The entire process was seamless. They wasted no time making sure every trade was ready to go when needed and there were NO gaps in time. They had city permits and inspections done the day work was completed on a particular part of construction. We were amazed at how well they kept everything moving in a timely manor. Mission was also great at communicating what the next week would look like for construction so we could ensure our dog was inside on those days. The finished product is exactly what we wanted. It's worth your time to look at other projects they've completed in Southern CA. Lastly, the people at Mission are just as impressive as their work. They are ethical and so easy to work with. I called and scheduled an estimate. I can't remember the guys name that called me, but he called, and then cancelled, and then reschedule. When he came out he was rude and so negative about our ideas. He clearly wasn't interested in getting the job. He said he would send a quote in a week and never did. Our pool was put in about 5 years ago. At the time the pool was finally complete, I would have given the experience with Mission 3 stars. The process itself was long and arduous, started in June and we finally were able to swim in December. Our main gripe is with how everything was subcontracted. It opened up too many ways for Mission to hand us off when we experienced issues. After just two years, we noticed that our plaster was getting very coarse, cutting up the kids feet after just a few hours. Ripping bathing suits after sitting in the spa, etc. We reached out to Mission, still under warranty, and they forwarded us on to the company that they had do the plaster. After finally getting someone after a few weeks of calls, they checked the warranty and said they would send someone out to sand the plaster. (quick side note... we now know that this isn't something that you should do, it makes it worse, and a few pool companies we've talked to since, even said it might not be legal). On year 3, same thing, only this time, the company ignored us, and never got back to us. Now, 5 years in, we've learned more about the issue as we talk to other companies. The issue with the plaster can't be fixed. We have to have someone rip it all out, and re-plaster. I know every job is different. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't, but I would not recommend this company to anyone. They've tried to shirk and dodge every issue we've had, both during and after the project. read more

I have called 3 times trying to get someone to call me back regarding a commercial water feature design build job. I talked to the receptionist and I am told I will get a call back but never do. Since they cannot even return a call I figured they cannot do a design build water feature. I do not recommend them for this work due to the poor communication. read more

Days after filling our pool and while we were still getting used to how to use all of the equipment, we had to call her in the middle of one of the many recent San Diego rain downpours as our pool was about to overflow! Even though it was a weekend, Dawn got right back to us and walked us through what to do to drain the pool. Patrick was our project manager and he was great to work with too. He was patient, responsive, helpful, and on top of things. I have a few friends going through the pool build process right now and none of them are having as flawless of an experience. While you will end up paying a little more, you will 100% not regret it. The extra money was worth not having to worry about anything going wrong or about any hidden fees and/or curveballs. I thought maybe I should post an update on my saga, They did finally replace the plaster a couple of years ago, but it was a pain to deal with them. Their customer service person was rude, and at one point she even hung up on me. The plaster crew got some plaster on my car, that is still there because they never came out and took care of it. And the kicker...the new plaster looks worse than the old plaster. We tried to upgrade to Pebbletech, but they they wanted to charge us far more than it would cost to go another source to have that done. I am also finding out that all of the equipment they installed was not the best, and barely five years into owning the pool, we are having to replace everything piece by piece. What a mistake we made in hiring them. I will say that Johnny Woods, the construction foreman that built the pool was good, but everything else has been a nightmare. read more

We put in a pool using Mission Pools about 5 years ago and paid quite a premium for the history and expertise of Mission Pools. The installation went well and we have a beautiful pool and Jacuzzi. However there have been constant mechanical problems with the mechanics that run the filter and drain for the Jacuzzi. This all started while we were well under warranty. So the warranty still applies. Instead of making it right, they put a band aid on and we wake up to a drained or empty Jacuzzi at least once a month. They are nice when they come repair, but the repair typically lasts about a month. This is frustrating because we paid a premium for quality and good service, which we are not getting. read more

They put in alot of time and effort to get the job done considering we had a lot of rain during the time frame of our installation. We had been thinking about putting a pool in our backyard for a long time. We shopped around and got some quotes from various companies and finally decided to go with Mission Pools. Our decision was based on many factors, but the tipping point for us was the proposed design that Dennis drew on site at our house during the first meeting. He solved a problem we had to level our property, with a beautiful step-wise solution. We immediately knew that Mission pools was different and made the decision to proceed with them for the building of our pool. Their staff is extremely professional and knowledgable. There is a specialized crew for each part of the process - digging, plumbing, electrical work, etc.. Patrick, the site manager, did such a great job keeping everyone aligned by communicating our design requirements and personal requests. And they always cleaned up after each day of work. This made a big difference for us during the entire experience. The only comment or dislike we have is for the job that had to be subcontracted outside of mission pool staff. The concrete work was done by a subcontractor and while the work was done well, we have experience with other projects to know that it could have been done better. The entire process - which is quite encompassing - was pretty low effort on our side. All we had to do was go to the mission pools location for some meetings and tile selections.
