Our large, deep pool hadn't been remodeled since 1964, it was a mess! Sundancer did an incredible job thanks to Marc Correll and his crew, as you can see in the before and after photos. He maintained the retro character of our pool, decks and property, whilst updating everything to the latest technology. From day one Marc had amazing ideas. We had been struggling figuring out what to do with a row of old telephone poles, thinking we'd need to build an expensive retaining wall. Marc had the genius idea of simply replacing the damaged poles and building a low retaining wall in front. This retains the charm of our quirky property, we love it and get so many compliments on how cool it looks. Our project was a complete backyard and pool remodel including: - old poolhouse demo - new concrete decks everywhere - rebuilding/concreting upper patio - install decorative aged brick on all paths & patios - tearing out all old landscaping - install two stairwells with lighting - beautiful waterfall wall & 4 deck jets (mitigate freeway noise) - pool lighting, saltwater, solar, plastering & tile - all new pool equipment & plumbing - long retaining wall all down one side of large lot - building three raised planter beds (one with cool curved wall) - creating hot-tub nook with electrical hookup - and more! And yes that's an airstream in one of the photos... it's our guest house, for which Marc built a concrete pad and liaised with our plumber on the installation of water, sewer and electric. He even helped to get the Airstream in place, which was quite an event! We planned and managed the project ourselves, and Marc had endless patience and good humor with our often changing ideas, always coming up good solves or alternatives we hadn't thought of - literally nothing fazed him. With a project this size we hit some bumps along the way, which was to be expected - Marc communicated clearly to manage our expectations, and was always fair about everything. We contacted many companies during the summer of 2020 to help us build our pool. The unique thing about our pool was that we wanted it on the bank (up high). A few requirements for us were 1) Company has been around for longer than 2-3 years (for any warranty issues), 2) Most of their workers are employees of the company (not 3rd party contractors), 3) Responsiveness. Robby came out and listened to what we wanted and Sundancer came up with the best plan and an awesome idea for a vanishing edge that doubled as a water fall on the lower level. Pool was completed right on time, and we were able to make changes along the way when we wanted. Be prepared to make choices with tiles quickly and color choices fast. Certain decisions come up fast without alot of warning. With covid we couldn't look at stores at our leisure. Everything was done without problems and completed well. There were no surprises. Everything is laid out and there are no shady issues or problems at all. That's all you can hope for with a large contract these days. Be prepared to have some landscaping damage, possible broken sprinklers and high water bills during the process. We love our pool and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company. We have finished the project! Actually finished about 8 months ago, but I wanted to updated this review with our experience with Robby at Sundancer from start to finish to continued support. Each team they brought in, from the demo crew, to the tile crew, to the plaster crew were professional, on time, neat, etc. Any issues we encountered (like clogged drains, etc.) were taken care of promptly and efficiently, with no extra charges to us. We used Sundacer Pools as a subcontractor to do the demo, spa, hardscape, turf, BBQ island and water/fire feature of our outdoor living remodel. We had a fantastic experience with Sundancer Pools and Robby Williams in particular who was the project lead. When we first met with Robby we discussed how we wanted an in-ground spa, a water feature, a fire pit with built-in seating, and a BBQ island. Robby informed us that given the size of our small backyard that the best use of space would be to combine the water feature and the fire pit into a single centerpiece. He sketched his idea out for us on the spot and fast forward almost a year (it was a large project with multiple contractors + delays due to COVID) and we are simply stunned with the end result. Robby's on-the-spot design ideas came out better than we ever could have imagined. The multi-tier water/fire feature with built-in seating is stunning and we have received no end of compliments about it. The spa is even more luxurious than we anticipated. Sundancer was able to make it even larger than originally advertised and we have used it every single day since it was installed several weeks ago. Our young kids have also been loving the spa (which is big enough for them to swim in) and they particularly love the waterfall from the attached water feature. Robby and all of the Sundancer crew were polite, easy to work with, and responsive. As some other reviewers have mentioned, Sundancer typically makes rapid, on-the-spot decisions about various material selections. Since we were using Sundancer as a subcontractor the prime handled all of that and it was a seamless and a more-or-less painless process from our perspective. All work was completed on-time and in a professional manner and the few (minor) nits we have had Robby has addressed promptly. This review is gonna be long, but trust me you'll thank me later :-) Earlier this year my family and I began doing research on the various pool builders in and around San Diego County. Some responded to our emails/voicemails looking to set up an initial visit to discuss pricing, ideas, estimates, etc... Some got back to us, others (looking right at you Mission Pools) couldn't even bother to respond to us. After meeting with a handful of builders we decided to go with Sundancer Pools, chiefly because of co-owner (who also happened to be our project manager) Robby Williams. He was upfront at our initial meeting when he stated that they weren't going to be the cheapest (they weren't, but it was close and with the $$ we were talking $1000 one way or the other wasn't going to break the deal), but because of the relationships they have with suppliers they would be finished 2-3 months before other builders and that we'd be able to enjoy our pool all summer....which we did (started in March and we were swimming by early July). He said he would be upfront, forthright and very hands-on during EVERY aspect of the build. I'll just cut to the chase and say he was ALL OF THAT and more! I'm an old school kinda guy and while I understand a contract is a contract, I also appreciate a person looking me in the eye, shaking my hand and giving me their word....means a lot to me. When Robby told me not to worry about something as he would take care of it ALL (County permits, pool equipment/electrical, an outdoor sprinkler system that got torn up, days missed due to poor weather, the occasional supply chain issue, initial pool servicing, changes in design, etc...) he meant it. He'd meet us at various places for us to pick out coping, tile, pebble for the pool interior, etc... and then offer up many suggestions on why one product was better/worse than another, he knows his stuff! Day, night, weekday, weekend, he would ALWAYS get back to me if I had concerns during the build. Not once did I feel he was taking advantage of us, nor did I feel as if he was trying to hide something from us. No matter what any pool builder tells you, THERE WILL BE ISSUES with your pool build, I can guarantee it. What made those issues seem non-existent for us was that Robby (and the occasional visit from his sister Shanyn) made it all very seamless, especially at the end of the build when the water is finally added. There are more than a handful of "issues" that could pop up once the water is added as you can't check for certain problems until water is running through the filters and hundreds (if not thousands) of feet of piping. When those "gremlins" (as he called them) popped up during the first month or so of our pool being finished, Robby was a phone call away and within 24-48 hours (if that) he had someone out to rectify the situation. Pools are nowhere near as inexpensive to build as they once were (he'll tell you that too ;-), so it's WONDERFUL to have someone like Robby and Sundancer Pools who do wonderful work, but even more-so, they're wonderful people. I can't recommend them highly enough.... read more

I bought my retirement home in Vista in April 2019, always planning to have a pool put in. Then 2020 came along LOL. But I went ahead last summer. Pool companies were BUSY. I had four come out, three gave bids. The main reason I chose Sundancer was that Sundancer included demo and replacement of the nasty old concrete patio just outside the home next to where the pool would go. Others said they would do paving around pool, but not demo/replace the old concrete. So I signed on with Sundancer, and work began second week of December. With holidays, a little bad weather, the entire pool project was complete by start of March. Just a bit too cold to heat it up yet, but soon! Robby Williams was our project manager, did a great job. Various crews came and went; they were all diligent, respectful, and worked hard. Now having workers at one's home 6 days a week, with intermittent breaks for scheduling reasons, is going to sooner or later cause some annoyance, but seriously, it was very minor. We completed a 10-12 week large backyard project with Sundancer recently and absolutely love the results. We put in a 50x8 lap pool and 8x8 spa, along with a bbq island and a great deal of general backyard renovation. Our project manager was Marc Correll and the project crews varied based on the task at hand. Marc worked really well with our landscape architect and we were able to get the backyard we had hoped for. We built our pool out on a bank - so the excavation required soil analysis and a deep footing. We basically have a 60ft retaining wall. When we started the project, we were looking at other locations that did not require the retaining wall, but when we decided to go with bank option - Marc was great about letting us know the risks (cost and schedule). The estimates accounted for this risk and we actually had money left over to do other things simply because the estimate was conservative. The Sundancer crew was great in general, but the biggest credit I give to Marc is that he under-promised and over-delivered. He stated that at the beginning of the project and that held true. The other big item was that we had almost no days where work was not getting done. The work was well balanced and allowed us to complete in a relatively short period of time. I also found Marc's suggestions helpful and he did a good job working with our needs while also understanding that we needed guidance in most cases (just didn't know enough to judge the best course of action). Another credit I give Marc is that we were not sold stuff we really didn't want. A good example of this is solar. We were told to wait on putting in solar to see if we really need it (since it could be added later without extra cost relative to the original work). What we have found is that our electric pool cover is keeping the pool pretty warm and we do not have to run the heater as much as we would have thought (or even we estimated based on online calculators).
