I ordered online for a pickup order. Arrived and my food was almost ready. Upon entering, if I didn't know better, I would think I was at City BBQ! Very similar decor, layout, etc. Grabbed my food and was given a free drink since I ordered pickup! Nice! Brisket was delicious! The fries were good. Cole slaw was average, a bit too tangy for me. Cornbread was moist and yummy. The only negative is that it is a pricey meal. Wow. But, for a first time customer, I liked the food,

My coworker raved about this place, so we setup an outing here. It's clear this place has a mission to give back to Veterans and active duty service members. That I appreciate! Stand alone restaurant but be weary of your map finder on phone as it will tell you the joint is on the other side of the road. Lots of seating inside! I'm more skeptical now of BBQ places, just because I've tried a few and look for a couple key items: bbq sauces, Mac n cheese flavor, banana pudding and sweet tea. My order was the pulled chicken and two sides (green beans and Mac n cheese). Let's start with the good: the sweet tea is killer and was the best part of my meal. I liked the green beans as well. Appreciated the cornbread with it all (maybe just a little sweeter on it?). Not so good: I tried 4 of their bbq sauces and didn't like any of them. The Tupelo honey spice seemed like it was going to be a hit but fizzled once I had my first taste. This was semi-disappointing. The Mac n cheese had a decent crust on top, but the dismal bbq sauce that I'd normally mix in with it wasn't great so I ate it solo and it was just ok. Downside: I was on a mission to get to the bathroom after eating the pulled chicken. My stomach is still upset today from eating it yesterday. Typically, this would be a 2, but they give back to our military. Plus, I didn't get to try their banana pudding due to the immediate stomach issues after the pulled chicken. Literally sitting on the toilet writing this review. Take that however you'd like it. The service here is excellent. They do go above and beyond but the food is average, especially if you've eaten at many various BBQ spots. Sadly, if my stomach is impacted this much by pulled chicken, then it's a no on a return trip for me. Wish them well, though!

Exactly what I expected from a chain BBQ place. I went there out of convenience because a new location opened close to my house. It was pretty mediocre. I mean. It's BBQ, so that still means it was somewhat tasty but nothing special about this place other than the baked beans. They were exceptional. Some of the best I've had. Great smoky flavor to them. I tried the ribs and the pulled pork. The ribs had an ok flavor but not overly smoky. Pulled pork had a mushy texture and the flavor wasn't anything to get excited about. I tried two of the sauces, Memphis Belle and KC. Both were ok but also nothing that stood out about them. If you're coming to NC and want fantastic BBQ, I highly recommend Prime BBQ in Knightdale and Sam Jones BBQ in downtown Raleigh. These are world class BBQ joints that are frequently listed as top BBQ joints in national publications for good reason. If you want something convenient and Mission BBQ is close by, it's BBQ but don't consider it representative of what the area has to offer.

My 1st visit to Mission BBQ was beyond any expectations I had after reading reviews. It reminded me of one of Georgia favs GEORGIA BOBS.The instant friendly greeting from staff put me at ease in ordering process, items are a la carte unless you add combo which I did. A native of NC bbq I went will pull pork sandwich with coleslaw and added xl combo which is two sides and drink. My sides were collards and baked beans which were served hot omg I loved that and even in their perfectly following AC during this heat wave my food didn't get chill before I could dive in. The tables all are equipped with 6 different sauces plus a vinegar bottle and roll of paper towels. Staff are attentive and very accommodating. My sandwich was so full of food plus flavors of smoke, still juicy and tender. It was my first time having braised greens with tomatoes but will not be my last. Baked beans full of flavor just right texture and seasonings plus meats. My meal was too much for lunch so I asked staff who helped me with proper containers to take my goodies home. The Belle bbq sauce stood out with splash of vinegar. Shall be returning with my bestie soon. Totally loved the pictures of Veterans inside as fellow veteran myself. Bravo Zulu!

The place was busy - but our meal was prepared quickly and correctly. I got a pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans. The pork had a nice smoky flavor and was quite lean. My side of baked beans tasted even better with the addition of brisket. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich also with a side of mac 'n cheese. She liked her sandwich so much that she took 1/2 home for lunch the next day. I love the fact that they have so many varieties of BBQ sauce. An employee was always in the dining area to clear trays and wipe down tables. I will be signing up for my free birthday sandwich.

There's a new sheriff (I mean bbq place) in town and it's quite delicious! I happened upon this place after coming from a PT appointment. First, the ambience. It is owned by 2 military veterans and it is all decked out military style. They clearly want to honor veterans!! and rightly so. The walls are adorned with military paraphernalia and pictures of veterans. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Since its new (Opened about a month ago) it's very clean - including restrooms. Now on to the good part - the food. We love brisket and it didnt disappoint!! You can get lean or moist and I got a combo of both. It was flavorful and delicious 10/10. The sides sounded so good I got a few to share with mom - Mac and cheese ( not like mine, but very cheesy with a breadcrumb crust). Baked beans with brisket ( too spicy for me - and it should be know that it's spicy) green beans ( good but a bit salty) coleslaw - good. BUT wait... the star of the sides - FRENCH FRIES!! These were the best French fries I've ever had. Why you ask! Hot, super crispy, but soft in the middle, lightly seasoned and not too salty. Delicious. You just have to try them yourself to understand. Needless to say, they didn't make it home. I also tried the ribs and the smoked turkey. All the meats were delicious. They smoke them in-house. They have 6 sauces to choose from and they were all good as well. Lastly I ordered the peach cobbler. 5/10. I personally didn't like it. Too sweet and too mushy. Overall, I will definitely be a frequent flyer at this place. Service was amazing. Smiling faces and warm greetings throughout the service. I gave them a 4 because of some of the sides and everything is a la cart so $$ can rack up quickly. They should have some combo deals. They do however have daily discounts for veterans. At any rate go for the FRIES!! Or the brisket. Those are my top picks.

Extra sauces not on each table!

This is the newest bbq joint in Raleigh and I've now hit it up twice! The food is amazing! Service is outstanding! Decor is fresh and patriotic and gives more than a nod to our service members and front line patriots! Lots of amazing sauces to choose from and no tipping request!!!

    A peachy masterpiece!

I ordered the Jones Family Original BBQ Tray, which comes with slaw, their slow-smoked whole-hog pork, Skylight Inn-style cornbread, and mac and cheese. The pork was the star of the show. Smoky, tender, and full of flavor, with those delicious crispy edges you expect from properly cooked whole-hog barbecue. You can really taste the Carolina oak and hickory smoke, and the vinegar-forward Eastern North Carolina style gives the pork a nice tang without overpowering it. The cornbread was excellent and the mac and cheese was a comforting side that paired nicely with the pork. I also appreciated being able to sit at the counter and watch the place in action--it has a relaxed, unfussy barbecue-joint atmosphere that fits the food perfectly. And I enjoyed my conversation with the bartender. Sam Jones has definitely earned its reputation for Eastern North Carolina whole-hog barbecue. Another strong stop on my Raleigh barbecue tour, and one I'd happily return to.

I don't love pulled pork because it tends to be dry, and it was no different in this case. The brisket was also a bit dry but the house sauce helped. I ended up dousing most of my food in it. The ribs were the best meat out of the three. It was tender and flavorful. For sides, we had slaw, mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, loaded baked potato, and a green salad. My favorite was definitely the slaw. I love a good slaw with BBQ meats. My least favorite was the mac and cheese, which was dry and basic. Everything else was fine. I'm glad we got to try so many sides, and got to check this spot out. But I think next time in Raleigh, I'd like to try some other BBQ places I haven't tried yet.

I took a seat at the outdoor bar and started with some smoked wings. 5 whole wings, so really 10 wings at most places. Meat was juicy enough, maybe I was hoping for more of a dry rub though. I used the tangy BBQ sauce and sweet BBQ sauce on them, and they certainly enhanced the flavor. I usually like mustard based sauces, but theirs was little more peppery than I wanted Then, per the bartender's recommendation, I ordered the brisket melt sandwich, and it was the undisputed highlight of the meal Muenster cheese, thinly sliced white onion, pickle chips, and a good load of horseradish sauce. The brisket had an amazing flavor, and all the other toppings came together beautifully. But that Union bakery bun is just another level. It's like brioche, it was so soft, but somehow a little more substantial. For my side dish, I went with the sweet potatoes with goat cheese, pepitas, and agave. This was just ok. For me, the potatoes could have been cooked longer, a little more crispness would have really helped. I did think the goat cheese was a unique flavor with a milder ingredient like a sweet potato, but it did work with the other ingredients pretty well. Only one unisex bathroom and it's small, so be warned!

When you arrive parking can be a bit tricky in this area depending on what time you arrive. We parked on the side street and walked over vs. parking in the lot out front. For food we ordered the Meats & the fixins sampler with chopped bbq pork, fried chicken dark, brisket, and smoked wings (tossed in lemon pepper). For sides we ordered fries and the Mac & cheese. I was thrilled that most of the menu was available. They were just out of the banana pudding. So I got to try the pecan wings I read about with the white sauce. It was so good. Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist.
