This was the most overrated bbq I've ever had; my ribs were greasy and nearly inedible- unfortunate for the $21 price tag! The cornbread tastes like somebody fashioned a loaf out of creamed corn, baked it, and shoveled it into each entree as a cruel prank. The sauces were unremarkable and over-sweetened (Keto-eaters beware!). My fromage-frenzied son refused the Mac n Cheese and canned green beans were not improved by the presence of bacon. I love my BBQ and wanted this to work especially since they will be making one in Newport News. The pork BBQ was tasty as was the French fries ( seasoned ). The brisket was overcooked to the point of being baby food. The had great ice tea. This is a place to splurge because their prices are way too high. $8.99 for a smidgeon of pork BBQ and corn brisket, (see pic) came with a slice of cornbread. Thanks to the folks who came before me and left your honest reviews! Upon entrance, I was initially confused as to what to do. Do I sit? Do I get in line? The manager is a sweet young woman names Jessica, who kindly showed me the ropes. So, for my shy Boo's out there...I got cha. Get in line, people. Tell them it's your first time and they will happily walk you through your options. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They cook and serve the food while Jessica takes care of the dining area and guests. The meat is fresh, never frozen, and cooked onsite! It sure tastes like it. I am not huge on BBQ but I had a hunkering for some and came across this place. I got the brisket sandwich and oh my. So flavorful, tender, juicy. It was just very very good. I also love the wide variety of sauces. I'm not a sweet sauce person. I like smoky sauces, more flavorful sauces that does not contain the "brown sugar" addictive and they have multiple. Have eaten here many times. I have tried and loved everything I've been served. Last night I ordered take out. Brisket sandwich, fries and baked beans. The brisket was dry and extremely salty. It was served on a wonder bread hamburger bun. One bite before it ended up in the trash. The baked beans weren't the same. They were acidic and tasted like tomato sauce. I hope this was a fluke. Ok this is such a solid Mission BBQ location! While it is a touch on the pricey side for lunch it is well worth it. If your looking to leave satisfied but not gut busted I'd suggest splitting a platter with a friend or significant other as the portions are large and worth the money. Came in with Hubbs & Kiddo for some BBQ. He got brisket, kiddo salmon. Me? I'm a pig, and went for the 2 meats- jalapeño & cheese chorizo with brisket. Wet or dry? Does that mean it comes with BBQ sauce mixed in? No. I prefer my meat juicy, so wet it is. Loved the chorizo. It's really just sausage- not Mexican Chorizo in any sense at all. Not spicy, just chunks of color from the chile & cheese. I had a choice of 6 sauces + Carolina vinegar @ the table. Tried all 6 sauces & only after trying 2 bites of each with my brisket settled on the Tupelo Texas hands down. Sweet & it had a bit of heat but not spicy. I asked for a side of mac cheese which I tried to barter with kiddo for half her beans. She, in true Texas form & the American way, stole my shit and ate it all. She let me scoop a spoonful onto my tray before she called it hers for the taking. She, like the Mexican I raised her to be, felt bad & scooped one more spoon onto my tiny, insignificant portion. I loved the decor, there are patches & stickers nailed in here & there for service members that want to display & donate. The fact that it honors military is awesome. The fact that firemen & police are included is even better. Great place, fast turnaround time from when you order to when you are served. Reminded me a bit of Woody's BBQ in Fort Worth, TX. This place has some of the best bbq i have ever ate! I dont know if its a chain or mom and pop. I know it supports military big time. I got pork, jalapeño and cheese sausage and brisket sampler plate. All of them were great!!! I didnt like idea of having to buy sides though. Potato salad had good taste but potatoes were lil hard for me. Greens were amazing! Cornbread was good just how i like it, soft and sweet. I liked the various bbq sauces from all over US. I will be back. The register lady that took order must have been having bad day. No greeting and acted as if she was going through motions. Like i said i could tell her mind was elsewhere. I've been here twice and had a wonderful experience both times. The cashiers were friendly and patient and considering the high volume of this restaurant, it was surprisingly clean and well stocked. My eating in experience was just as great as my take out. Now for the food - the pulled pork is amazing! Especially with the heavenly heat sauce and NC Style sandwich. Their mac and cheese is rich and creamyyy. Their baked beans are equally tangy as they are sweet so a little different but still yummy. The jalepeno and cheddar sausage is soooo good, my man couldn't keep his eyes or hands of mine and is definitely going to get that next time. We loved our first time visit to Mission BBQ, but the woman who took our order seemed very uninterested in her job. We had never been to this restaurant before so we had no idea what came with what. When my husband asked what came with the three meats option she said and I quote "three meats". My husband then asked if any sides came with it and she said "no" before my husband could even finishing asking the question. She was very unfriendly however, the food made up for it. We visited Mission Barbeque during our trip to Hampton VA. This was our first visit to this establishment. The atmosphere was bright, comfortable and cheerful with friendly staff. The menu was simple; but delicious fare. We had brisket Mac and cheese, green beans, brisket sandwich and turkey salad. All of the meats we're flavorful and tender. The sides were equally as tasty. The manager, Amanda, came to our table and greeted us. We asked how she got involved in working there. She told us a little bit about her family history, asked where we were from and brought the three of us complementary strawberry shortcake desserts. That was a pleasant surprise.
