Battered fish with hush puppies , okra and fries

Captain D's is a nostalgic place for me this food is average but the service is actually impeccable I always feel well catered to here. Guaranteed to walk out with a smile and full belly.

    Ive already dug in!

During lunch today I reminisced on how my brothers and I would eat Captain D's for a late breakfast (brunch). That set up tonights plan to go here. First let me compliment the young adults who were working tonight, so nice, considerate and professional. I notice the young lady at the drive-thru slightly frustrated as she dealt with confusing customers who did not know what they want, holding up the line and changing their order. Though frustrated, the young lady kept her cool. I ordered the sampler plate with two sides and 5 extra shrimp and some really good potato soup. Wifey ordered a fish and chicken platters with two sides and a drink. The cashiers, who were awesome, asked what two sides we wanted, we both had the corn on the cob, I had broccoli and my wife had mac and cheese. We ate in and took our seats to wait for our food. As we did, we notice that we were charged and extra .39 cents each for the corn. Confused on the extra charge, my wife inquired when I food was bought out. The server did not hold any punches when she told us "that's how they get ya, make you think it comes with the meal and it does, but its a specialty item so they charge you extra." I just loved her honesty. We just left it alone and could not wait to get home and do this review. The food was served in reasonable time, it was hot and fresh. The potato soup was AWESOME, the veggies where nice and hot. What I like about Captains D's over is competitor is they do not over batter the fish. It is battered just right. You actually taste fish and not a bunch of batter like the competition. Took what was left on the run, gave a shout-out to the AWESOME CREW and went home. Overall it was a good meal and hospitality. Don't eat at Captain D's much but the next time I do, Ill make sure it is this location.

    Good seafood, good price

They cook everything to order so wait time is a bit long especially if you come during peak times.

This is the receipt that was in the bag.

The order was for two 3-piece fish dinners and a salmon dinner. When we got home, there was no fish and a chicken meal so one person didn't get fed. The manager made no effort to right the wrong.

First time trying this restaurant here. I just ordered the #5 catfish feast, green beans, Cole slaw, broccoli, & clam chowder. The cole slaw is spoiled, green beans have no flavor even with meat added, and the clam chowder tastes like mustard. One piece of catfish was cooked and decent. The other pieces of fish weren't fully cooked & had undone raw batter in places. The broccoli was over cooked. I will not be back to waste another $15 on this. I'm so disappointed.

a tube of dairy sour cream

I got couple of dinners tonight for me and my 11 year old son. When I got home there were 4 packets of sour cream and they were all 3 days expired. So I called the store to not complain but to let them know that they are giving out expired item so they would be aware but without saying anything the person on the the phone just hung up the phone. If this is what they do with expired sour cream what else are they just using that is also expired that we can't see the dates of. If this is how customers who want to help by alerting the store so they can fix the issue are treated, it shows how much they really care about the customers. I am not going here anymore and I will definitely let everyone I know know about this crazy experience.

    Plate, bag.

Presentation: Even the way dishes are plated has gone downhill, which takes away from the enjoyment of the meal. Sadly, Harpoon Larry's no longer delivers on those fronts. Overall, while Harpoon Larry's still has its moments, especially on oyster nights, it's hard to recommend it as a regular go-to spot anymore.

Had this place on my radar and was right up the street from the show. Decent sized place and decided to dine in to give time for the traffic to die down (didn't work). You can order from a kiosk or at the register. I opted for the kiosk to not hold up the line trying to figure out what I wanted. The staff were still helpful and attentive. My eyes were definitely wide because I wanted to try everything. I opted for the big cat samwich, shrimp basket for mini me since he eat like a grow person, a side order of oysters, fried clams, and a crab cake. Took about 20 mins but didn't mind. Liked all the TV's with different things to watch. Created a chill atmosphere. Once the food came out, I was ready to go in. The big cat samwich was massive. Loaded with catfish, lettuce, and tomato. The bun was incredibly soft but didn't break from everything. The fish was seasoned nice and had a good crunch. Some hot sauce and tartar sauce made everything complete. Highly recommend. Had some shrimp off my son plate and they were big, lightly battered and seasoned well. I was hesitant to order the crab cake because it was fried and really didn't look appetizing from the picture. Didn't get that lump crab cake like I'm used too. Not something I would probably order again but if fried crab cakes are your thing, give it a shot. The oysters were good and would have been great in a poboy. The clams were fried well but not my favorite. Overall, this is a place I would definitely get my seafood fix if I lived across the water. This has been high on my "want to try" for a long time and finally saw an opportunity with an available reservation, went for it and am so happy I did. I dined solo, which I rarely do, but this was the perfect place for it. It was apparent that most people dining were regulars. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. I don't say this lightly - this has been added to my top 10 list in all of Hampton Roads!

The service was exceptional, the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and timed each course perfectly, allowing us to truly enjoy the evening without ever feeling rushed. The atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for a much-needed night out. All seven courses were smaller, tapas-sized portions. While the plates were small, they were perfectly timed, and we were surprisingly full by the end of the meal. Here is a breakdown of our journey, ranked in order of our preference: Grilled Octopus - The absolute highlight. This was the best and most flavorful of all the courses. The stew was seasoned so well it left us talking about it throughout the entire evening. Crab Cake - I enjoyed the flavor of these, though the texture was a little softer than I personally prefer. The presentation was a bit lacking--it looked like the cake was just plopped in the center with the puree splashed on the sides--but overall, it was a good dish. (Starter) - It was good, but honestly, I already forgot exactly what it was. It was okay as a starter, but clearly not as memorable as the octopus. Flourless Chocolate Cake - What's not to like? It was a nice, small piece of decadent cake with ice cream on top. A reliable finish. Smokey Salmon - This arrived with a "show," served under a glass dome engulfed in smoke. While the presentation was very cool, the flavor was unfortunately bland; nothing about the taste really stood out. Wagyu Beef - This was the course I was most looking forward to, but unfortunately, it was a letdown. While the meat was a perfect medium-rare, it was quite bland and desperately needed seasoning. Seared Scallops - The scallops were cooked well, though the rest of the dish didn't quite hit the mark for me. Fin Seafood provided a decent night out for a couple who haven't been out together in a while. The staff made us feel incredibly welcome and ensured we enjoyed our early Mother's Day celebration. However, if we return, I'll likely skip the full tasting menu, save some money, and just order that incredible grilled octopus.
