Cheeseburger with fries
J David H.

I'm a fan of the Mission BBQ chain and have been for years. First time at this Hampton location which offers a smaller floor plan. Parking was no problem, but I had to park a good distance on a Saturday afternoon. I was promptly greeted and order taken by a friendly staff. The burger spoke to me and first time I got one at Mission. The pricing was excellent! I added fries as a side. The dining room was spotless and surprisingly was not too busy. My order was called by name in 10 minutes or so and was correct. The burger appeared to be a half pound and had lettuce, tomato and pickle. You can add other condiments by retrieving them at a nearby cart. I also ordered a fountain drink. My cheeseburger was very good, but honestly too large. Everything seemed fresh and cheese melted nicely. The taste was yummy! Fries were a bit underdone, but still tasty. My ice cold Dr. Pepper was delicious. A staff picked up my tray when finished which elevated my review. I probably would not order the burger again, but only because a half pound was too much. The value was excellent. 3.5 rounding up. I would return.

"black plate item", grilled shrimp

My first time here... Honestly, it was y'all's reviews that brought me here... I needed to see what all the hype was about. I needed to try all of the top items everyone said was sooo good. Starting with the 3 meat platter. I opted for the jalapeno cheese sausage, juicy and the perfect snap when you bite it, 5/5. The turkey was boring and dry 2/5, because I took it home and slapped it in a sandwich the next day so that made it better. The brisket was dry and I asked for moist, 2/5, It was saved by dipping in BBQ sauce. The Mac and cheese side was decent. I sprinkled some old bay on top cause it needed seasoning 3/5. The beans were smokey and too much BBQ was added imo, 2/5. The green beans were just ok, the bacon saved it 3/5. The "secret black menu item" was grilled shrimp. When you dip it in the creamy white BBQ sauce, it slapped lol! 5/5 Had to try their infamous ribs, they did fall off the bone, but it was dry as hell 2/5. So honestly, the food was "mid" at best... Why then did I rate them a 4 star??? THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD! You're greeted as soon as you walk in. The employees seemed happy, the place was clean, they walked around and offered turkey to try... I mean, it was awesome! I definitely suggest you give them a try.

After Sophia and I left AMC Theatres, we headed here for some lunch. I'll be honest, Mission BBQ was hardly in my radar. When it comes to fast casual restaurants, it's hit or miss because they're not local. But I did see this place has fairly good reviews. Sophia ordered from the Newport News location once and actually liked her selection. So why not give them a try? We walked inside and up to the counter. Everything inside was spotless and had a nice crowd on hand. Country music was playing across the speakers but not too loud. Up at the counter is where you place your orders. I chose a combo of a pound of moist brisket with a side of fries and a cup of water. We got seated where they had a variety of BBQ flavors to choose from. Overall, the meal was good. The brisket was moist and fries were plenty. Out of the BBQ flavors I've tried, I say Smoky Mountain and Texas Twang were my favorites. And they work very well for dipping fries. Our plates came with a side of cornbread also, but I lended mine to Sophia since I got full. Not a bad first time here and definitely won't be the last. We definitely found another fast casual place that hit the spot. Till next time :)

Not typically a chain restaurant kinda guy, but this place is one of my few exceptions. This is my second visit, but I was too busy stuffing my face the first visit to write a review. Top notch bbq that is better than most mom and pop shops. Super moist meats and delicious sauces to pair! The Smokey Mountain is my favorite with the Alabama White coming in at a close second. Worst part about this place is making a decision on what meat to choose. Super friendly staff at this location as well!

Good BBQ for a counter serve place but would prefer to go to a non-chain for what you are paying here. I really like the amount of sauces that they have and the different regional flavors that they cover. Unlike other Mission BBQs this franchise does not offer a military discount.

Whether it's with friends or just the two of us, we've never been disappointed. Let's see how this visit went. We were immediately seated once we walked inside. It wasn't completely packed for a Saturday afternoon but staff was really busy with customers. The vibe was one that made us comfortable for the most part. After a few minutes of looking over the menu, we were ready to order. My selection was the Tavern Monte Cristo which consisted of chargrilled chicken and ham as the protein with Gouda cheese and cider aioli fried in a tempura batter with tavern fries. The meal was served hot and ready and tasted great. And having the cranberry coulis as a dipping sauce really added some taste. My only gripe with the sandwich was the amount of protein. I'm not sure if I ate most of it when we dined in, but when I ate the rest for dinner, it was more breading than anything else. Still good but they could've included more. Nonetheless, I was full. Good stuff as always from Park Lane Tavern :)

It's high-end, which I barely touch due to pricing, but it does not hurt to try something new. Let's see how the evening went. After our entire party arrived, we were all promptly seated. Inside, the decor is perfect. From the bar to the dining area, everything was spotless. You can tell the staff really cares about keeping the place tidy. And they had New Orleans-style music playing through the sound system. Very relaxing. After looking through the menu, I was ready to place my order. I chose their fish special, which was salmon with veggies and a sauce (forgot the name). This dish was very good. It was probably the best cooked salmon I've ever had. When you see seafood with the perfect crust and a lot of flavor, you're in heaven. It did have a small bone and I felt it lacked the amount of squash and zucchini, but again, a wonderful meal. There was one situation which resulted in only a 4-star review. Out of curiousity, I saw on Facebook that they offered $5 discounts. I did let my party know and we were all ready to use them when the bill was ready. But the staff told us the discount was to be used on a table rather than an individual ticket. When we looked both on Facebook and our personal emails, none of that verbage was mentioned. Not trying to sound harsh, but please be sure to state every detail foe customers. We do want to find ways to save some cash out of our wallets. Except for the discount mishap, the visit turned out well. I can say I'll be back to give them anothee go-around. Till next time :)

This has been high on my "want to try" for a long time and finally saw an opportunity with an available reservation, went for it and am so happy I did. I dined solo, which I rarely do, but this was the perfect place for it. It was apparent that most people dining were regulars. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. I don't say this lightly - this has been added to my top 10 list in all of Hampton Roads!
