Ah, that box-of-windows fronted by a round-corner triangular sign. The telltale architecture of a former Winchell's Donuts. Locally the chain has mostly vanished from its heyday of 25 years ago, leaving only a few remnants under that name, but from their wreckage several now-independent donut houses sport a refurbished triangle sign and a suspiciously familiar menu. So it is at Miss Donuts, which has two locations in the county. After a recent breakfast nearby, I took a walk around the area and my whims decided a donut would hit the breakfast-dessert spot. They had all the donuts I recalled from my wayward youth: sprinkled cake, glazed cinnamon rolls, enormous fritters. I zeroed in on an old favorite: the airy maple cruller, which was as insubstantial a chunk of calories as I remembered, yet it sadly failed to trigger an epic reverie to my childhood. Still, as a single cruller can be had for pocket change, even the lacking nostalgic experience seemed worth the while. Came here early on a Sunday morning to pick up a couple dozen donuts for everyone at work. I was seriously disappointed. Like I said I was there pretty early and pretty much all of there selection was already gone? For a place that specializes in only making donuts which are typically consumed in the AM hours you would think they would be making more through out the morning to make a profit. But not here. It seems they make one batch in the morning and after it's gone, it's gone. I was only able to grab a dozen for work and only the stupid left over, last picked for dodge ball ones that nobody else wanted. Lame sauce. Plus they only accept cash. Gahhhhhh what is this the 18th century... Who doesn't pay with credit and debit cards anymore?? Smh. read more

Miss Donut has changed ownership lately and I must say I am VERY disappointed. I absolutely loved this place before the change. Now the donuts taste greasy, and the grease coats your mouth. Yuck!! I would love to see the dough receipe change. I will continue to stop for a donut periodically in hope's that they get better. read more

Ive been coming here since I was in middle school and I'm in college now. Back then, all of the regular size donuts were only .75. They're now .85 when we went in today. I always get the glazed donuts unless they're out then I get anything besides jellies donuts (don't like those lol). They're pretty good. They aren't Krispy Kreme's but they definitely do the job! With so much innovation going on in the donut industry... it is nice to be able to snag those old fashioned donuts with the consistency and taste you expect when you hit a donuts spot. That is what Miss Donuts in Spring Valley is. Daytime only hours and a friendly staff that hasn't changed in as long as I can remember. With nothing over the top to rave about, I can say that this is my favorite place for place glazed donuts. My 9 year old son had asked me to bring in donuts for his class on his birthday. I went to three different donut places before I made my way over to this place. All the other donut shops had barely any donuts left at 7 in the morning and the donuts were boring and small. They didn't even look appealing. Then I came to Miss Donuts and their selection was incredible. We had a blast picking out donuts for my son's class and they ended up tasting just as good as they look. I highly recommend! read more

I think they forgot the first part of their business name, HIT OR...yes it should be called Hit OR Miss Donuts. When they do have donuts they are good especially the twists and bars, but when they don't why even have the open sign in the window? I have stopped here in the past, and they don't have a large selection of doughnuts. I got a doughnut craving a few weeks ago and was shocked by the small selection they had. Donuts sound good when I happen to have cash in my wallet. First time here and it is cash only. It's 6am on a rainy Friday morning. The case is full of donuts. The gentleman behind the counter is cordial, we exchange pleasantries and I ask for a dozen random donuts. I got a pink box with 12 donuts. Woot woot! Rings me up. 7.95 very awesome! My daughter and I were so excited to have stumbled accross a donut shop near our house. All the other donut shops have gone out of business in our area. We wondered inside and we found our favorites, Long Johns with Chocolate icing and glazed covered twists! Came here at 9am. Still a lot of doughnuts available. I was pretty upset there was no sign ANYWHERE that it's a cash only establishment until I give her my card and she's like "oh only cash". I come to this particular donut place when I in the mood for something really good. But I never waste my time on the yeast donuts, only the buttermilk and the old fashioneds. The buttermilk donut (un-iced of course) offers just enough sweet and the moist crumbly inside and the crispy fried exterior are just perfect. Great Mom and Pop donut shop. But you have to get there early and bring cash. If you get there late with your debit or credit card this isn't the place for you. Luckily there is a Wells Fargo ATM steps away and if you have a credit union and don't want to pay ATM fees there is an SDCCU ATM in the Grocery Outlet parking lot next to the donut shop (atm is next to the Chevron). Their donuts are always fresh and delicious since they make one batch in the morning and they close once they have sold out. The glazed donuts are great but I am a maple bar lover and their maple bars are awesome! These aren't gourmet donuts like Donut Bar or Nomad's but if you want a good basic donut shop this is the place. If you come after 8 am pickin's start getting slim so be prepared to be there early! read more

This is one of those yummy donut places that only stays open until their daily fresh batch has been sold out! This is both an awesome thing, but also slightly disappointing since I tend to crave a delicious chocolate glazed donut after a hectic day at work.
