One of the better Better Buzz locations I've been to with plenty of shaded tables outside. I'm a Latte drinker and many cafes either make them too milky or strong, but Better Buzz has a solid mix. Their Paradise Bar is amazing; and they should try to market them beyond their locations. They'd sell well and are delicious. Isabella helped me out on my first trip to this location and though I declined the rewards she offered, she still presented kindness and was great. It'll be one of my go-to spots. read more

I've been coming to Better Buzz for quite some time and was SO happy when they opened this location! I'm not out in the Pacific Beach area very often, so having one in La Mesa was a huge win. I used to come much more frequently than I do now--sometimes embarrassingly frequently --so I've definitely watched this location evolve and get busier over the years. The Hazelnut Divinity and Moroccan Spice Iced Espresso were probably the two drinks that originally kept me coming back. They felt more unique than your typical coffee-shop drinks. I've branched out quite a bit since then, though, and there are plenty of other drinks I really enjoy. The Lavender Tea Latte is another favorite when I'm in more of a tea mood, and their matcha is really good too. I also love that they continue coming up with seasonal flavors and expanding their drink menu. The Best Drink Ever has become another regular for me, and some of the seasonal variations have been delicious. Food-wise, they've expanded quite a bit too. The Better Breakfast Sandwich is probably my favorite overall. I also really like the Feta Avocado Toast Deluxe with the microgreens and balsamic reduction. I usually skip the cherry tomatoes, although they're actually pretty tasty with the balsamic too. The Carnitas & Roasted Red Pepper Egg Bites and breakfast tacos are also good, especially if you like some heat--the salsa verde definitely has a kick! For my child, we usually go with the Bacon Ciabatta and ask for the chipotle aioli on the side. They've always been pretty accommodating with simple modifications like that. And yes, they have pup cups! They'll normally add a little dog treat, but I've definitely ordered one for my child before and asked them to "hold the bone." We've gotten the actual version for our dog too. The atmosphere is very Better Buzz--cute, trendy and completely on-brand with all the bees, "buzz" sayings, etc. I just wish this particular location were a little bigger. Between the drive-through, mobile orders and people wanting to sit inside, it can get BUSY, especially earlier in the day. Their mobile app has improved quite a bit since it first launched. The pickup ETAs can still be a little hit or miss--I've had orders take longer even when the app says they're ready or gives an earlier timeframe. They do seem to be working on communicating wait times better though, so I'll give them credit for that. My biggest issue lately has unfortunately been consistency. Over roughly the last 6-12 months, I've had more drinks come out differently from one visit to the next. The Moroccan Spice is the biggest example. When it's made correctly, the espresso, heavy cream, raw sugar and spices are SO good together and it's still one of my favorites. But I've had the sweetener missed enough times that I've started specifically mentioning it when I order. Without that sweetness, the balance is completely off. Service has been a little more inconsistent lately too. There are absolutely some employees here who are consistently super kind and friendly, and overall I've had plenty of good interactions. I've just noticed more variation recently, particularly in the drive-through. Sometimes you get that really friendly Better Buzz experience, and other times the interaction feels a little less welcoming. Even with those things, I still really like Better Buzz and I'm glad this location is here. Their menu has grown a ton, they do seasonal drinks really well, and there are several food and drink items I genuinely keep coming back for. It's also been really cool watching them expand while still keeping the fun personality that originally made Better Buzz stand out. I'd just love to see the drink consistency, mobile-order timing and service tighten back up a little, because when everything is made correctly and you get one of their great employees, this location is easily a favorite. read more

Literally heard the buzz about this spot and kept an open mind because, why support Starbucks when you can try something new? We did a drive-thru run for coffee. I got a mint-infused ice coffee with vanilla cold foam (not sweetened) and it was absolutely delicious, refreshing, and a little different than the usual. The mint made all the difference. They also give me a little pup cup which I wish I got a better photo of since it was adorable and had a teeny bone treat on top. Also tried their sandwich from here (best breakfast) with avocado instead of meat and it was pretty damn tasty! Simple and delicious and a cute little treat-yo-self morning or afternoon stop. A quick Better Buzz run in La Mesa that started smooth but came with a few unexpected hiccups. I ordered through the app because I like being able to actually look at the menu without feeling rushed at the drive-thru. The earliest pickup time was about 15 minutes out, so I got in line a little early thinking I was being efficient... turns out my order didn't even show up in their system until like 5 minutes before pickup. The staff was super nice about it and helped figure it out quickly, so I don't think it's on them. It felt more like a system issue, but it did throw things off for a bit. Once they found it though, the drinks came out fast, maybe like 5 minutes, and there was still a line even an hour before closing. We got the banana pudding "best drink ever" and the lavender tea buzz, both the regular size totaling around $14 total. The banana pudding drink was honestly really good. The espresso tasted strong but not bitter, and that topping really does taste like straight up banana pudding. The vanilla wafer on top was such a cute touch too.I did ask for my buzz to be made thick, but it came out pretty thin and got watery fast. It still tasted good, just not the texture I was expecting. The biggest issue for me was the lavender tea buzz. While I was drinking it, I literally sucked up what looked like a pistachio... which shouldn't be in that drink at all. I know they have a pistachio drink on the menu, but that kind of cross contamination is a little concerning. Luckily I'm not allergic, but if I was, that could've been really bad. Especially since it was a blended drink, it makes me wonder if the blender or workspace is getting cleaned properly between orders. I've been a fan of Better Buzz for quite a few years, but the La Mesa location in specific really impressed me. I've always loved their whole aesthetic--the ambiance, the interior design, and especially their iconic branding! Everything about the brand is so clean and unique, and it's one of the things that makes Better Buzz stand out from other coffee spots. Walking into any of their locations already feels like a vibe, and La Mesa definitely delivered! (been to many SD locations and they're all great tbh) One thing I immediately appreciated was the spacious parking. The store itself is also very open and roomy, with lots of seating and a bright layout. It's def the perfect place to hang out, study, or catch up with a friend. Almost every table in the store was filled when we last visited so sometimes seats do run out! I ordered the Hazelnut Divinity with oat milk and vanilla cold cream! Omg I was pleasantly surprised at how mind blowingly good the drink was!!! I'm officially done with Better Buzz. I used to come here ALL the time, but apparently reading the order that is literally printed on the label is too much to ask. Today I ordered my coffee through Uber, and I specifically ordered it ICED. The label on the cup clearly says ICED, yet somehow they still made it hot. How does that even happen? And because I ordered through Uber, I wasn't standing there to catch their mistake before the drink left the store. The order probably passed through three or four different employees before it was handed to the driver, and not ONE person noticed that a drink clearly labeled ICED was sitting in a hot cup. And this is definitely not the first time. On another occasion, I paid extra to add foam to my coffee and, of course, they didn't add it. I politely walked back inside, explained that the foam I paid for was missing, and asked the employee if she could just add it. Instead of simply saying, "Sorry about that," and fixing it, she had a whole ass attitude. She grabbed my drink, added the foam, and handed it right back with the same attitude. Not even a basic apology for something THEY forgot. Mistakes happen. I understand that. What I don't understand is repeatedly getting simple orders wrong when everything is clearly written on a label, and then acting annoyed with the customer when they politely ask you to correct YOUR mistake. At this point, hire people who actually know how to read an order and have basic reading comprehension. And please stop using "they're young" or "they're new" as an excuse for poor service. Being young is not a fucking excuse for not doing your job. Everybody started somewhere. I started working at 16. You learn, you pay attention, and when you screw something up, you apologize and fix it. That's literally part of having a job. Coffee at Better Buzz isn't cheap. If I'm paying these prices--especially when I'm paying EXTRA for add-ons--I shouldn't have to inspect every single drink to make sure somebody actually read the damn label. I've given this place way too many chances. I'm done. Zero stars if I could. Oh and let's not forget they expect the tip for just taking an order LAUGHABLE read more

Better Buzz was running a $5 special on matcha for St. Patrick's day so I did a mobile order for the lavender honey matcha. I went in the afternoon and it was easy to do a drive through pickup, no line down the street like there sometimes is. The girl at the window apologized because they ran out of the purple dye they use in the cold foam so my drink didn't look exactly as it is supposed to. Nonetheless, it was still delicious! Light lavender flavor but not overwhelming and creamy with the cold foam. I would definitely order this again. read more

I would understand her frustration, if I came in and ordered like 5 minutes before they were closing, but I came in at 8PM. Used to frequent this location pretty often, and each time was a real gamble with how smoothly the visit would go. We have gone thru the drive-thru and it tends to crawl, but that could be attributed to the location and the layout of the parking lot. We have mobile ordered, and a few times our orders were made incorrectly (specifically our food orders). And the times we have hung out, the lobby and patio have been a mess (dirty tables, overflowing trash, empty condiment bar etc.). We've found that order accuracy ranges a bit, as well as the friendliness of the staff. They often seem overwhelmed or we catch them during a transitional part of the shift where it just feels chaotic in there. Hope that the experience is better for others. read more
