Literally heard the buzz about this spot and kept an open mind because, why support Starbucks when you can try something new? We did a drive-thru run for coffee. I got a mint-infused ice coffee with vanilla cold foam (not sweetened) and it was absolutely delicious, refreshing, and a little different than the usual. The mint made all the difference. They also give me a little pup cup which I wish I got a better photo of since it was adorable and had a teeny bone treat on top. Also tried their sandwich from here (best breakfast) with avocado instead of meat and it was pretty damn tasty! Simple and delicious and a cute little treat-yo-self morning or afternoon stop. This review is mainly about customer service. I have been drinking better buzz since I was in high school and it never fails to be delicious! This time I ordered espresso over ice and it was perfect. I got here pretty late in the day. It was late afternoon so I totally understand the staff might be tired due to it being the end of the day. When I arrived I got in line & waited while the person in front of me ordered. She seemed to be friends with the barista as they were very chatty which is totally fine, but then it was my turn to order and the barista saw me waiting and continued the conversation with their friend. I waited a bit longer and thought it was clear I was waiting to order. Finally the person in front of me finished talking and I was able to order. I get it she had a friend visiting her at work, but it felt like I wasn't even there and I almost intervened and asked can I order? I'm generally a patient person but this felt a bit excessive. I then wanted to know the wifi password to get my laptop connected. I went to the pick up counter to ask but same barista was chatting with her friend and so I immediately went to the register instead of asking her because I didn't want to wait and stand around. read more

A quick Better Buzz run in La Mesa that started smooth but came with a few unexpected hiccups. I ordered through the app because I like being able to actually look at the menu without feeling rushed at the drive-thru. The earliest pickup time was about 15 minutes out, so I got in line a little early thinking I was being efficient... turns out my order didn't even show up in their system until like 5 minutes before pickup. The staff was super nice about it and helped figure it out quickly, so I don't think it's on them. It felt more like a system issue, but it did throw things off for a bit. Once they found it though, the drinks came out fast, maybe like 5 minutes, and there was still a line even an hour before closing. We got the banana pudding "best drink ever" and the lavender tea buzz, both the regular size totaling around $14 total. The banana pudding drink was honestly really good. The espresso tasted strong but not bitter, and that topping really does taste like straight up banana pudding. The vanilla wafer on top was such a cute touch too.I did ask for my buzz to be made thick, but it came out pretty thin and got watery fast. It still tasted good, just not the texture I was expecting. The biggest issue for me was the lavender tea buzz. While I was drinking it, I literally sucked up what looked like a pistachio... which shouldn't be in that drink at all. I know they have a pistachio drink on the menu, but that kind of cross contamination is a little concerning. Luckily I'm not allergic, but if I was, that could've been really bad. Especially since it was a blended drink, it makes me wonder if the blender or workspace is getting cleaned properly between orders. This location isn't my favorite I prefer the north park location . The seating is limited but parking here is better . Well on to the good stuff the breakfast sandwich is very yummy it comes on a pretzel bun and garlic aioli. I'm not a huge fan of arugula but it all works . I've been a fan of Better Buzz for quite a few years, but the La Mesa location in specific really impressed me. I've always loved their whole aesthetic--the ambiance, the interior design, and especially their iconic branding! Walking into any of their locations already feels like a vibe, and La Mesa definitely delivered! Used to frequent this location pretty often, and each time was a real gamble with how smoothly the visit would go. We have gone thru the drive-thru and it tends to crawl, but that could be attributed to the location and the layout of the parking lot. We have mobile ordered, and a few times our orders were made incorrectly (specifically our food orders). And the times we have hung out, the lobby and patio have been a mess (dirty tables, overflowing trash, empty condiment bar etc.). We've found that order accuracy ranges a bit, as well as the friendliness of the staff. They often seem overwhelmed or we catch them during a transitional part of the shift where it just feels chaotic in there. Hope that the experience is better for others. read more

Solid coffee option considering it's a large chain. I ordered ahead and got the "best drink ever" at 1/2 sweet. The drink was ready at the pickup time. The sweetness level was perfect for me since I don't like when drinks are too sweet. It's essentially an iced Americano with vanilla flavored creamer. A decent sized parking lot although it's on a corner of a busy street so during rush hour and long drive through line the lot can still feel pretty tight. Inside is nice and open. I wouldn't order this again, but if possible I'd get the orange blossom in a latte because it was good! It was good but leans more towards the sweet side. I'd recommend getting it slightly less sweet or half sweet. It has a strong coconut flavor which overpowers the matcha. The staff here are so friendly and actually take the time to talk to you. They convinced me to try the new strawberry rose beet drink and honestly... it's the best thing on the menu right now. Super fresh, not too sweet, and just different enough to feel fancy without being weird. Solid upsell because I probably wouldn't have ordered it on my own, and now I'm hooked. Side note, I don't normally love anything Rose flavored. The place is clean, the vibe is chill, and service is fast even when they're busy. Better buzz is probably my favorite consistent coffee shop in SD and it's about time they got one in La Mesa. I've been several times for the coffee (best drink ever, the churro drink, and snickerdoodle). I love that the coffee flavor is smooth and well rounded with enough caffeine and depth that the flavoring of the drink doesn't overwhelm the coffee. The only downside to this place is location. The drive through is always backed up onto the street so it's a nightmare trying to get in and out of parking lot and parking spots. If you plan to grab your cup of coffee here make sure you allot time for the traffic and wait time of getting in/out. read more

On 12/1/25 I made an online purchase through the app at 502am. When I got to the store to pick up my order the lights were on and people were inside. The gentlemen who spoke to me through the drive thru told me that they had changed the hours and it should've been changed on the app and that all he could do is refund me my money. Well I never received a refund and was still charged for the order. This is wrong for some many reasons 1) if you're going to change store hours then whoever's in charge of running the better buzz app should've made it not possible for people to order. 2) if you're already in the store with other people why not just fill the order since I'm pretty sure the supplies you needed were already there. Or at least turn the damn lights off, and put a sign on the drive thru saying you're closed and the hours have been changed and not have wasted my time to begin with. 3) keep your word and give me the refund you said you were going to do! The refund I'm intitled to. This was unethical, dishonest, untruthful, and flat out robbery. To charge a person for a service or product not provided to me is theft. What if I never checked mv account? *updated on 12-28-25* I would like to add, just so everyone can know the truth about what kind of business this is and the kind of people it's ran by. The district manger Yanai replied to my review giving me her email for me to connect wit her directly to make this right. Well guess what, just like I never received that refund from the store, I never got a reply from Yanai to "make things right" what was your point of even replying to my review? To make people think you would make it right when you had zero intention's of following through with your word? This is the most ridiculously, unethical business establishment I've ever come across in my life. If you've been to this establishment and were owed a refund, check to make sure they gave it to you, because believe me, you can't take their word for it. And don't try to say you never got my email cause just like my refund I was supposed to get, I checked, double checked and triple checked that the email spelling was correct and went through.
