Since that…read moretime, I have been to at least 15 different audiologists and 7 ENTs; going through the dreaded annual hearing evaluations for 25 years. For years, my mother was berated for not putting hearing aids on her child, mostly because I refused to wear them and I was functioning "well enough" in school. As I grew older I went from a mild to moderate hearing loss. Understanding speech became increasingly difficult. I began to realize my ability to "hide" my disability without amplification wasn't "well enough" for the professional world and personal life. That's when I started my journey to find hearing aids. As a young professional living in Boston and working 2 jobs, it was easier to buy a new car than get financing for hearing aids. Insurance doesn't cover it and my company didn't offer a HSA account. Additionally, I made too much money on paper to get government funding. The technology for mid-frequency hearing loss is not quite here yet, but significantly better than 20 years ago. I shopped around from audiologist to hearing aid distributors who all turned me away when I said I could not pay $8k - $10k within 30-days. I was devastated, defeated, and felt no one could help me...until I went to Brookline Hearing Center. The first time I visited, I met Judith Chasin. This was a very emotional situation and sensitive decision for me. She sat down with me to really listen. Judith made me feel comfortable and gave me the reassurance that hearing aids will increase my quality of life. We must have spent 2 hours talking! I have never received this kind of support and attention from an audiologist in 25 years. With a little bit of coaxing, and encouragement, I got molds for Orticon hearing aids. I came back a second visit to find out the molds didn't fit comfortably in my tiny ears but Judy found me an alternative solution that made them fit much more comfortably. I tried them out for a couple weeks, but realized they were not doing enough for me. I came back a second time and met Judy Arick. Again, this visit was over an hour as she mostly listened to my needs. It was suggested to try another brand, Plantronics, and was sent home for another 30-day trial. I returned a third time, ready to give up, convinced the technology doesn't exist for my mid-frequency hearing loss. I remember being in tears and ready to call it quits when both Judy's told me they'll never give up on me and will find me the right amplification - no matter how many times it took! I was fitted for Widex hearing aids, top of the line, with the most advanced technology. They were very expensive, but did work! This process took 3 months, 6 + visits (at least an hour each), and both Judy's gave me emotional support and technical advice. During the 3 trials and many visits, never once was I asked for payment! At the time of purchase, they worked with me to come up with a financial plan to afford my hearing aids. Almost 2 years later from that first visit, my quality of life has significantly increased, more than I could have ever imagined. With the help of Brookline Hearing Center, I was given the confidence to leave my old company and interview for a new job. I not only got the job, but a major promotion with a Fortune 100 company. Also that year, I met the man of my dreams and will be getting married this summer. I can't express my sincere gratitude to Brookline Hearing and their unbelievably kind and helpful staff. Lastly but not least, I thank both Judy Arick and Judy Chasin for helping me achieve my goals. My story is unique and has impacted my life in many ways. I give my utmost recommendation and will never go anywhere else for my hearing needs again.

I've used hearing aids for 10 years-- high-end Widex devices--with generally good results. After 2 years of inconsistent and subpar results with my third pair, however , Tomer took a look, reprogrammed them in 15 minutes, and voilà, made them work solidly and consistently. BHS is also excellent when it comes to after sales service. They follow up religiously once they equip you with a device. Besides Jill, all other staff at BHS is also very professional and understanding. Even though i moved to Canada recently, however, Jill and BHS continue to advise me over phone and email as and when i need them.

I had not been in for a few years (living out-of-state during Covid made it impossible), but had an emergency with my ear earlier this week created by a mistake at my new PCP's office (note to self: continue search for new PCP). I called Dr. Vernick's office the next day and spoke with Anna - we had a nice chat, she told me she joined the office a couple of months ago and helped me get in ASAP. She recommended I see Mary, the office's RN, and was able to make an appt for me first-thing the following morning. Mary was amazing, looked at both ears to see what happened and then explained in nice, easy-to-understand terms what happened and what to do. My pharmacy let me know 6 hours later (!!!) that one of the two prescriptions she ordered for me was unavailable, so I called the office to go with option #2. I left a message for Mary, she called me back a few minutes later and sent in the next request. It's obviously tailored towards the hearing impaired and making a sale but I found the doctor to be very friendly and extremely informative. He spoke to my grandmother and I with kindness but also with respect. More often then not a doctor will talk to the person who drove to the appointment instead of the patient. This did not happen on our visit. She was tested and fitted and all of her medical records had been received prior to her appointment which made this appointment extra informative and helpful for both her and I. I like this place because they offer follow up appointments, fittings, free batteries and someone to call when you aren't happy. Her previous hearing aid store fitted her and sent her on her way and never offered any sort of follow up opportunity. This is a problem if hearing loss fluctuates at all. She ended up purchasing a set and came back for a few follow up appointments. They have called to check up on her a few times which is a relief for the family because they can help more then we can. Plus this guy is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. A Longhorn fan is always a plus in my book!

To say that I am a grateful patient, is an understatement. Here I am, 38 years later, and I remember Dr. Randolph's care, expertise, thoroughness, compassion, and concern for my well-being. Little did I know, then, that Dr. Randolph would become one of the leading thyroid surgeons in the WORLD. I've been back to Mass Eye and Ear several times, since then, to see a variety of specialists in ophthalmology, ENT, Facial and Plastic Surgery, and optometry. Every experience was over the top, and what you would expect of one of the preeminent eye, head, and neck hospitals in the world, and one of Harvard Medical School's flagship, teaching and research hospitals. In December 2025, I fell and had multiple injuries, including a fractured nose. Rather than see a plastic surgeon, who treats patients from head to toe, I opted, instead, to be seen by a Facial and Plastics Surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear. I was referred by a friend who is "in the know" in Boston medical circles, to Dr. David Shaye, who took outstanding care of me, and who managed to work some miracle in the Operating Room, where he returned my crooked nose (from the fall) to its original shape, without any incisions (or blood). Recently, I was seen for an annual eye exam, by optometrist, Dr. Leah Margolis, who performed the most thorough annual eye exam that I have ever had. Dr. Margolis' care, was consistent with her thoroughness and efficiency. She came up with a brilliant solution for my reading, that was a one-off, stroke of brilliance. I don't know how Mass Eye and Ear, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Newton Wellesley Hospital do it, but they are the best of the best, and they have the best doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff (most notably, PA's, NP's, and CRNA's).
