LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants around KC and hands down my favorite. We've been 5 times and every time they serve up the best sushi around. This is by far the best sushi place in town hands down. You can go anywhere you want but I would eat at Mint every day! The owners and staff remember me everytime I come in and they are super nice. This is a good place for sushi. Although I have to admit they seem to care more about the presentation than the product. Whoever plates the food here is truly an artist, but both my husband and I had rolls that fell to pieces because they weren't filled to capacity and/or rolled tightly enough. I also become wary when a sushi place using such an excess of sauce. It makes me wonder how much they trust their own product and its freshness. If I'm craving a super saucy roll or two, I'll definitely go here, but if I'm wanting the fish to be in the limelight (as most true sushi fans do), I'll travel the extra 15 minutes to my long-standing favorite. read more

Good little strip mall sushi joint! My wife and I ate here on a Saturday mid afternoon for a late lunch. The place is tiny, casual, and seats maybe 30-40 people tops. There were only about 10 others there when we went though. Service was fast and friendly, and the menu has good descriptions of the various rolls and sashimi available. I had the "Fire Island Roll" and my wife had a "3 Roll" sampler, which is 3 pieces of 3 different rolls. We also shared an appetizer of steamed potstickers. The sushi was good. I've had better...and worse, and the potstickers were amazing! I honestly can't think of one bad thing to say about the place. My absolute favorite sushi place in Kansas City! My go-to favorites are the Python roll and the Black Dragon roll. We've never had anything here we didn't like. The free donuts at the end of the meal are a wonderful touch. The service is exceptional, the staff is knowledgeable, quick and friendly. The restaurant is always clean and tables are tidied up immediately. If you're an introvert like me it's best to go during the week. The tables are tightly spaced since it's a cozy little place, but this means close quarters during the packed weekend rush. I recommend this place every chance I get! read more

I would recommend this restaurant for takeout only. Also, I would never recommend it for kids. I was born in Okinawa and have raised my children eating Japanese food. We aren't new to this scene. While this is the best choice for Japanese in Lee's Summit, that really isn't saying much. Both Siki and Mr. Sushi (your other options) have atrocious service and are known for food poising. This is why we tried Mint. When we walked in, it was apparent this restaurant has outgrown it's space. (Recommendation: Buy out Mr. Sushi down the street as it has an insane amount of square footage and only five people dinning at any time of the day.) There were ten people waiting at Mint and not a single place for them to sit or stand. Several people came and left after surveying the situation. We were told it would only be a few minutes which turned into twenty-five. The tables were about two feet from the door, so it was pretty awkward hovering over people eating. There was also no second door at entry. This is a huge no no for dinning facilities or anywhere with major foot traffic. Because of this, half the restaurant was getting hit with bursts of cold air every five minutes. It was really ridiculous as there were useless curtains hanging where the second door should have been. Invest the $200-$300 and install one. We were sat at a dirty table where someone had also spilled dark liquid all over the bench seat. I had to ask for napkins to clean it up and was given a total of one. I actually had to ask for napkins multiple times throughout the meal and received less than the amount of people dinning. The sushi was good but that was about it. There are also few roll options that aren't deep fried. Way to lose the balanced simplicity and freshness of Japanese cuisine. The miso soup tasted like it was made from a packet. The children's hibachi came with about four small bites of chicken and the plate was instead covered in adult like vegetables. The sauce on the kids meals was also watery and the chicken had a bad after taste (I tried it myself). The Mochi desert came with one bite sized piece and was frozen solid, inside and out. They didn't even take the time to thaw it properly. Our meal cost around $70 for water, three sushi rolls (2 basic and 1 specialty roll), a small bowl of edamame, three pieces of crab rangoon, two kids meals, three soups (PS soup isn't included in any meals), and the frozen desert bite. The whole experience made me sad as there is potential here. All this place needs to do to be a five star is move into a adequate space, make their kids meals more kid friendly, and pay attention to their customer's basic needs. It was disappointing as the other reviews were so high. read more

I only had the sushi at Mint, so this will be of no use if you are after insight into the rest of their menu. To begin, lees Summit in particular and KC in general has a high number of Sushi restaurants. I have been to alot but not all of them, as well as Sushi joints from Hawaii to Florida. I have a favorite in the area and usually am disappointed when I stray away from them. Not to say I have never found other raw fish purveyors that I don't adore. I chose to try out Mint on the recommendation of several people. Upon arrival I can clearly see this is a small operation, not a problem. However employees laying around on the dining room tables is something else altogether. As are the abandoned hand tools left in the window sill. My wife and I are seated. We are helped promptly. We order Edemame, one Onion Soup, one Miso, 2 Spicy Crab Salads, one Tuna Roll and a Sashimi Deluxe which includes a California Roll. We are drinking an Iced Tea and Hot Green Tea. My wife is not happy with the Iced Tea, I concur that it is a little off. The Green Tea is fine. The Edemame is a tad oversalted but ok otherwise. The Spicy Crab Salad is really where this turns south. The presentation is top notch but, if you are going to offer a copy of another restaurants signature dish in this burb you had better bring your "A" game. The salad lacks the crunch of the Panko crumbs, even though I can see them? They are already mushy. The actual edible part of the dish, excluding the artwork, Is a dingy brownish color. Not the vibrant colors I am used to. The flavor has the slight hint of fishyness, it might have been the pickles? Why pickles? I have the suspicion that the salads are pre-made in a batch, not to order, this would account for most of these issues. The soups are a little watery, theres just more to enjoy that way right? The California roll is of the type found in grocery stores. I think they cut up the crab and mix it into a paste with something else, I could not identify the other ingredients. The Tuna Roll is ok. The Sashimi is served coiled up like a snake. They cut each piece several times like fringe to make this work. While a unique presentation, it makes manipulating each piece rather difficult as they are now ultra floppy and hard to grip. No sushi plates were provided. The serving temperature of all the sushi dishes came into question between my wife and I. All the sushi dishes we had were room temp. I did a little research and I guess it is not unheard of, but my wife was definitely put off by it. I to would prefer a little chill on my raw fish, Its just the rube in me I guess. After the meal they gave us some complimentary chinese sugar donuts. They were delivered my a man sporting the most unflattering billy goat gruff style of facial hair. I recognized him as the guy from earlier laying across one of the tables in the rear of the place , now he is up close and personal, yum yum. As you read about all this lack of attention to detail in the front of the house. Keep in mind that unlike most Sushi joints across the globe. Mint prepares ALL the food in the back, out of view. The bill, this meal cost us $49 about par I believe. The TLDR. totally unimpressed too many options in the area to go back. read more

Their menu is extensive and includes hibachi grill items, sushi and Thai. Plus, it's run by two of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
