I am a Vietnamese good snob. No one cooks bet r Viet food than my family but I will say this places hits the spot. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet and the Bun Bo Hue. It was both delicious, really. Mint Leaf has always been a reliable restaurant to get my craved pho's and vermicelli platers. I've been coming here for a few years now and they've always served to a standard of great service and delicious Vietnamese foods. Their menu is broad which also pretty much covers the array of most popular Vietnamese items. I also enjoy their spring rolls, glass noodle and rice dishes! Flavors are wonderful, nothing too overpowering in terms of taste and flavors. Ambiance is quaint and there's usually no wait time. Not authentic Bahn mi sandwich. No pate just mayo. The beef broth is flavorless and the salad barely has any dressing? Even the imperial roll was greasy! I'm so conflicted! Pretty good on the surface, but slightly lacking on substance. After hearing some great things about Mint Leaf from one of my friends, I was excited to check them out when we dropped in for dinner. For one, I never even knew this place existed; maybe it's because it was dark, but it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. For two, the photos of the restaurant and menu looked great - a nice, clean decor and an array of dishes that looked tasty, though, perhaps, not super authentic. The restaurant as a whole feels unlike some Vietnamese places I've been to in the past. The décor and the restaurant (read: tables) are nice and clean, the workers were rather engaging, and some of the prices (unfortunately) seemed to trend a little on the high side ($5+ for banh mi?). However, the menu still looked pretty darn good. I was actually torn on a few different dishes until I took my friend's recommendation and opted for a nice, hot bowl of PHO GA ($8.25). Now, when he described the Pho Ga as "really hearty", he was right. The bowl was chock full of chicken...yet comparatively short on noodles, making nearly every bite very meaty (which, I realize, is not the worst thing). Plus, like with other versions I've had, it was nice how the soup wasn't very oily and tasted rather light. However, the soup might have actually been a little too light. The seasoning/flavor of the broth was really subtle and there wasn't much body to it. Considering how some of their other dishes sounded pretty decent (and given how much my friend likes this place), I wouldn't be surprised if Mint Leaf is actually better than the impression my Pho Ga left me with. It certainly wasn't bad, and it did satisfy my hunger...it just wasn't all that amazing. Still, considering how close they are to my friend's place, and how coming here beats having to drive over to any of the joints on International, I'd give Mint Leaf another shot. We picked up food from here based on a recommendation from a friend during Covid and were really pleased with the quality of food. The summer rolls were the star of the show but the pineapple fried rice and the tofu with stir fried garlic noodles were also delicious. I had enough of my tofu dish to save for lunch the next day but my partner devoured his pineapple fried rice. Not too crazy about this place. It was my second time dining here in a couple years and I was quickly reminded why I haven't returned since. The soup craving struck and so I came in to get a quick fix. I ordered a basic bowl of pho (L6) and it was pretty bland. I never ever have to use hoisin sauce but this bowl was screaming for it. I also requested for chili oil, which they didn't have. They only carry chili paste and sriracha. I tried the paste and it just masked the flavor of the entire soup. Their bowl is considered a small anywhere else, PERIOD. That means, for the 10 bucks I spent, I didn't get enough pho nor meat. I get it.. I'm in Berkeley and a tiny bowl of pho for $10 is probably reasonable. It's unfortunate, but i guess it comes with the territory. read more

The food is consistently delicious and fresh. The drinks here are AMAZING. They juice everything fresh, from the grapefruit juice to the watermelon juice. I recommend the Minty Lychee drink, the Coconut Cream drink, the jalapeno watermelon drink, the peach iced tea drink, and the ginger lemonade drink. But also the ladies who serve/run the place are absolutely fantastic. I went here today with a group of my ladyfriends, and the lady who served us was so attentive & funny. When my group arrived arrived for a Sunday girls' lunch we were all complimenting each others' outfits while we were being seated, & she totally agreed with my "Thanks! These bangs are fake clip-ins and these are the clothes I slept in" Couldn't ask for better! 10/10! My one and ONLY complaint about Mint Leaf is that they give paper straws. Paper straws are quite the worst and there are better non-plastic/compostable options available. came here for a late lunch. Mediocre. Boyfriend and I both ordered noodle soups. I ordered the Pho dac biet and he ordered the Bun Bo hue. Portions were very small for it's pricing. Soups were not flavoraful in spices but more in either salt, msg and or fish sauce. Although it is a really nice location with Berkeley bowl west right around the corner and service was good, you can tell they've skimped on quality ingredients and flavor. Pho Ga and loose leaf tea. Plenty of noodles and a flavorful broth. The chicken was white meat, which was a pleasant change from some places that serve both dark and light. The decor was more upscale than your normal pho place. The dining area is open and bright with a view of the semi-open kitchen. I've also tried the noodle plate with pork, which I would also recommend. The menu has a good variety. It's the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my work, so I'll be back to try something new. Go to Mint Leaf for the soup. That's my overall take after dining here again. I wasn't hungry today, so I just ordered the Crispy Imperial Rolls. The deep fried rolls had the perfect amount of crunch, but the inside looked somewhat questionable. Paired with the traditional vinaigrette, they were pretty good. However, just like last time, the rolls weren't worth the price. If you want your money's worth, get something from the soup menu for $1-2 more. Was in town for work and felt like some decent pho. Seems I picked the wrong place to dine. No greeting at all, just waved me to a table and threw a menu down for me to look at. After choosing the regular pho and a summer roll I asked for a Thai iced tea as well. Tea was OK, summer roll was good but the pho was awful. Noodles still crunchy, broth way too salty and pungent with something I couldn't identify and the meat was tasteless strips of mostly fat and tendon. Not sure what else they could do better here apart from improving the quality of their food and service. I finally found a great pho restaurant in Oakland! This reasonably priced restaurant has a great selection of Vietnamese food, including the infamous pho. Pho is one of my favorite things to eat on a cold night in the East Bay. Mint Leaf offers a great selection of pho--from chicken to beef. I also like the inventive spring rolls. By far the worst bun bo hue I ever had. Their bun bo hue is super small portioned and severely lacking in depth of flavor/spice; felt like it was just sprinkled on the last couple minutes before serving as the broth color didn't look right either. Food was luke warm and was too hungry to send it back as we were also short on time. I know some people squirt sriracha/hoisin into their broth for pho but I was never one to do that. I prefer mixing it in my spoon and dipping noodles into that. Put SO SO SOOO much sriracha into my broth and it didnt help with the flavor -_- ALSO, I mean maybe, I should've expected it since there were more non-viets/asians here but when I asked the asian server if I can get a bun bo hue, she was confused. Thought she didn't hear me so I said it 2x more...realized she didn't know what it was so I had to tell her the english. Co worker got pho but the broth was sickly pink and not clear/beefy brown. Really disgusting looking. He's not picky and even he was meh about it. He ate about half and just pushed it away. Also got the cha goi ne - crispy vermicelli roll [i think. forgot what if it was that or the imperial one]. Nothing particularly outstanding. When time to pay, we went to register since we had to hurry and go. The lady took my card to process and was on her way to swipe but decided to process 3 other transactions that came after me??? Don't know why she didn't just finish swiping mine..oh well. After that she demanded my card which was right in front of her. I was confused and said I gave it to her already. She insists I did not . Perfect stop after a day on climbing. There is a limited but sufficient amount of vegetarian options. I took the eggplant and tofu clay pot, it was delicious. We checked out Mint Leaf for the first time last night, located where our dearly departed Sharffen Berger factory used to be. The decor is crisp and modern, and since we arrived an hour before closing, there were only a few other patrons.. We ordered: Shaking Beef - the beef cubes were tender and tossed with loads of caramelized onions; served with a lime-salt-pepper garnish. There was clearly sugar added to the sauce, but it worked. It's not as good as the shaking beef at Slanted Door, but it's my favorite non-fancy-restaurant version of this dish that I've had. Chicken Pho - good broth, plenty of noodles, delicious marinated chicken. Not as "complex" as pho at other places, but tasty. Chicken Lettuce Cups - moderately spicy and well seasoned, very fresh and light. Garlic noodles - clearly spaghetti, like the Italian kind from a box, with some scallions and fish sauce garnish. Not what I was expecting, but it was tasty and went well with my beef. I'd order a rice side next time. I'd say, overall, the ingredients at Mint were in general fresher tasting than most Vietnamese pho houses, and the food a little more Americanized and minimalist. I don't think this place will replace the hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurants I love, but I like Mint enough that I will be back. read more
