    seafood pasta

Only reason i'm giving this place a two star review is because of the food. It was not that good and probably subpar at best. The gnocchi was pretty good but the sauce was way too sharp and overpowering. If the salt was cut back and the sauce was a little thinner with some black pepper, it would have been perfection. My husband's dish was alright but nothing to rave about. There is better food in the city tbh. Highlights were the service and the atmosphere. Mataeous was at attentive and kind. The place was well staffed and someone was always around if you needed anything. It was super cozy and decorated for Christmas. Super cute for an intimate date night. Make sure to make a reservation on TripAdvisor for 30% off.

This restaurant was so lovely, charming, joyously musical, had wine flowing and lots of carby goodness to choose from. We had lots and lots of red wines between our tables. We had a good lot here. I had the caprese and penne pasta. There was so much wonderful music and good cheer. There wasn't one sad soul in this whole restaurant. Pure merriment and so much good food.

Our tour group had a lovely dinner here and I must say we found it quite enjoyable. We had several courses all of which were very tasty and waiters were very good , refilling drinks quickly, cleaning off table and bringing next course. There was also some live music which really added to the ambiance. My son was the only child in the group and they brought him and extra large serving of gelato which was unexpected and very sweet. If in the area I'd definitely return.

Ristorante Mino was our first full meal after we arrived in Roma. As part of our tour it was our "welcome to Rome!" dinner and the staff definitely pulled out all the stops for us. Four courses of delicious food + bottles of a lovely house wine + music = a fantastic way to start off our tour. Our four course meal started w/ bruschetta, prosciutto and melon. The pairing of salty meats and sweet fruits was simple and delicious. Why don't more restaurants in the States have dishes like this on their menu? Next up was a glorious sampler of pastas. Pasta dish #1: rigatoni w/ mushrooms (fungo). The pasta was a perfect choice for this sauce- the ridges held onto the creamy sauce and didn't let go. We only got a sampler of this one but I could have easily eaten a 2nd bowl. That was until pasta #2 came out. Lasagna! Holy crap melt-in-your-mouth lasagna. It literally melts in your mouth. The sauces, cheese and minimal meat was all perfect. Our 3rd course consisted of thinly slices pork, super tender roasted potatoes and a wine sauce. The pork was good, lacked a little flavor, but the potatoes more than made up for it. I don't know what those chefs did to these potatoes but they were incredible. Last but certainly not least was our dessert. Strawberry gelato + the freshest strawberries I think I've ever had. They were tart yet sweet, bright red and took the strawberry gelato to another level. The staff at Mino was great. Food came out of the kitchen piping hot and waiters were good to explain the dishes they were placing in front of us. We were seated in an upstairs dining room but there were plenty of cozy tables on the first floor. Should we find ourselves in Roma again I wouldn't hesitate to visit Mino again for dinner.

Service was great! Food was good. I may have gave it a 4 star, but I didn't care that much for the dish I got. My fiancé' dish was good!

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

When we arrived on a late afternoon, we waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. To start off, we got the Limoncello Spritz (€10) and Aperol Spritz (€10), which were refreshing. For our pasta, we ordered the Fettuccine with Oxtail (€18) and Carbonara (€17). We also wanted to order two more Secondi dishes, but the waiter warned us that the pasta is filling. After we finished the pasta, we did still order the Rabbit (€19) because it wasn't something we usually see on the menu. For the carbonara, the flavor was delicious but not really my favorite pasta shape. It was also quite al dente with a chewy texture. I have to say that the oxtail was spectacular though with its juicy and tender meat sauce. While the rabbit was nice to try once, it was a bit dry with minimal meat. Overall, good spot but nothing worth waiting too long for. Also, I'd stick to the pasta here as it's all handmade. You even see them handrolling them inside. Note that they also charge €2 per person for service fee already.

You see mostly locals here, and they're regulars. The restaurant is spacious but also intimate and the men serving were efficient & welcoming. Not super friendly but can tell they're very hard workers. It was located near our air bnb & worth the walk everyday. We actually looked forward to it after doing our daily activities. The workers eventually recognized us and treated us like friends. Hence the name of the restaurant- Buoni Amici = Good Friends. Plenty of wine choices and great food to go with it. The penne was missing something but good thing we ordered it with the steak as an extra dish. Everything else we had was amazing, we had it everyday & tried with one other new dish each day. No complaints! We would even get there nearly closing time, & never felt like we weren't welcomed. Almost asked them if they needed help wiping each glass & cleaning up lol There was a dessert that we seen others eating during lunch with strawberries that we were going to come back for at dinner but sadly was all gone, so I imagine it's a hit. We enjoyed the sorbetto al limone every time though! I could go on & on about this place but I'll leave the rest to your imagination. Highly recommend We'll be back on our next trip to Rome! It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
