This happened May 24, 2024 around 11:00 something pm We landed in the airport late so we didn't have the time to eat somewhere. We went an hour before closing and wanted to order chicken but they said that everything was out already so we tried to look for food in other stores but everything was closed so we ended up coming back here to buy cup noodles (since we realized that they sell those too). When we went back, there was a chain barricade around the aisles so my friend politely asked if they are still open (note: we went back 45-30 minutes before they close). For a few seconds she looked at us with an irritated expression before nodding. When my friends and I are paying, she's obviously not in the mood and kinda slamming our drinks and cup noodles. At this point, my friends and I are just side eyeing each other because of how rude she's acting. When we finished paying, we even said thank you but the moment we exit the store, we heard a loud bang from the door. This cashier lady slammed the door on us!! We were literally in disbelief on how rude she was when we were being nice and patient the whole time. It was our first day in Maui and we didn't expect to be treated so rudely. And side note, no we're not from the mainland. My friends and I are all from Oahu so it's so surprising how they acted without aloha. We never experienced this kind of treatment in Oahu and it's so sad that some workers act like doing their job and treating the customers with kindness is such a nuisance to them even tho that's literally their job? These Minit Stop convenience stores only can be found on Maui, & the Big Island (for now)..........sorry gang, if live on Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, or Kauai.......I'm sad to say...... you're out of luck my friend. Just your typical convenience store where they sell drinks, snacks, & other nick-nacks........and of course, if you need gas.......you can get too! What I do find unique about the Minit Stop convenience stores is they actually have a kitchen in the back where they fry up some really delicious fried chicken, as well as some great potato wedges...........kinda remind me of steak fries. My spouse and I were at Kamaole Beach in Kihei for sunset and decided to grab dinner from "somewhere" as we were in the mood for fried chicken. Not many places came to mind except for Zippy's, which has a tasty product. I went online to price it, and needless to say it's outrageous what they charge for chicken. Then, good ol' Minit Stop popped in my noggin. I haven't had their chicken in years, so why not? Plus, it was sold for a reasonable price. ATMOSPHERE: This store is located in Piilani Village Center where Safeway Kihei and Maui's only Outback and Ruby Tuesday restaurants are. It's by far the most spacious Minit Stop I've been to which also sports a gas station that takes HFN (Hawaii Fueling Network) gas cards in addition to public consumer sales. The inside was clean, cool and organized. There was even a small table for dine-in patrons. MENU: Fried chicken in all parts including wingettes, potato wedges, plate lunches. FOOD: 12 Piece Fried Chicken Box - $18.99. The box automatically comes with 7 thighs and 5 drumsticks, my two favorite parts of the bird. I am not a breast man lol. The chicken were perfectly seasoned, crispy, juicy and cooked all the way to the bone. Worlds better than Zippy's, KFC and Popeye's. I forgot how delicious they were and will definitely patronize them more. Highly recommended for the fried chicken fan! SERVICE: I phoned in my order and it was ready and waiting for us by the time we got there 10 minutes later. The female worker in the kitchen was very friendly and pleasant. TIP: Definitely call in your order for the fried chicken boxes as they sometimes run out or stop making them at a certain point. I have been in this store on multiple occasions because it's really the only place to get something I might have forgot at the store. Every single time I come into this store, they are very rude, ignore me until I ask for help at the chicken counter, I have to repeat myself four times to them so they can understand what I am asking them nicely for. It's very embarrassing. Tonight 5/2/20, I went in with a made mask and JOY was SO rude to me because it didn't "cover my face to her standard." Check the camera, I was covered. She had a glass between us and she was wearing a mask. So she yells "what do you Want?" Like she was irritated that I had a mask the way mine was. I couldn't believe how she said it. There is no consistency in the quality of the food but I still returned. Today was the last straw...I wanted to get a coffee and noticed that the remaining 3 cups were dirty, so I asked for a clean one. The lady I asked, turned to someone I'm guessing was the manager and asked. The second lady said no more and then they started speaking another language. Finally the first woman turns around and tells me they're out and to just use the dirty cups. Then she tries to hand one back to me. I honestly don't yelp much, but felt compelled to write this review. Today my family and I stopped at this mini mart to get some snacks and a phone charger as we had a full day of exploring the Island while on vacation. We purchased a Charger and it didn't work. I immediately went back in, and they replaced it. The next phone charger we used worked for an hour or two then also stopped working. On our way back to our hotel, we stopped back in and I asked if I could return it or exchange it again. I wasn't upset at all, just expressed that it was our second one and asked if they would return it. The woman at the front was extremely rude and gave me a terrible time and told me I couldn't return or exchange it without a receipt. She sighed at me several times and kept sending me to other workers. Finally, she said she would replace it but was extremely rude the entire time. Let me say this- my love for this island is immeasurable. It's beauty and people are unlike anywhere I have ever been before and if I could love here, I would. In all my travels here I have never come across an individual so rude, mean, and inconsiderate. It doesn't change my love for Maui, but I will never support this business again!
