    Getting my fried chicken fix!
    Fran C.

My name is Fran C. and I am a fried chicken addict! Yes I said it! And you read it correctly! Do I need an intervention? Perhaps.........but why ruin a good thing? When I travel for work, I usually leave my house before the crack of dawn...........and sooner or later I can guarantee you around 10ish or so, I'm gonna get hungry! It doesn't help It when I rush out of my house & I skip breakfast..........so this is where the trusty "Minit Stop" on Maui comes into play! For today, the Minit Stop in Kihei was my "goto" joint for a quick snack......... Whenever I pop into a Minit Stop, I always head to the back of the store to look for the ordering counter where I can pick up a little "snack pack" which consist of a musubi wrapped in nori, and a single piece of fried chicken. Yum! These Minit Stop convenience stores only can be found on Maui, & the Big Island (for now)..........sorry gang, if live on Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, or Kauai.......I'm sad to say...... you're out of luck my friend. Just your typical convenience store where they sell drinks, snacks, & other nick-nacks........and of course, if you need gas.......you can get too! What I do find unique about the Minit Stop convenience stores is they actually have a kitchen in the back where they fry up some really delicious fried chicken, as well as some great potato wedges...........kinda remind me of steak fries. Also, there is seating within the store..........as there are a few tables & chairs where you can sit and eat your meal after purchasing your food items at the counter. The fried chicken is as advertised! Stop by Minit Stop for some bok, bok, bok!

My spouse and I were at Kamaole Beach in Kihei for sunset and decided to grab dinner from "somewhere" as we were in the mood for fried chicken. Not many places came to mind except for Zippy's, which has a tasty product. I went online to price it, and needless to say it's outrageous what they charge for chicken. Then, good ol' Minit Stop popped in my noggin. I haven't had their chicken in years, so why not? Plus, it was sold for a reasonable price. ATMOSPHERE: This store is located in Piilani Village Center where Safeway Kihei and Maui's only Outback and Ruby Tuesday restaurants are. It's by far the most spacious Minit Stop I've been to which also sports a gas station that takes HFN (Hawaii Fueling Network) gas cards in addition to public consumer sales. The inside was clean, cool and organized. There was even a small table for dine-in patrons. MENU: Fried chicken in all parts including wingettes, potato wedges, plate lunches. FOOD: 12 Piece Fried Chicken Box - $18.99. The box automatically comes with 7 thighs and 5 drumsticks, my two favorite parts of the bird. I am not a breast man lol. The chicken were perfectly seasoned, crispy, juicy and cooked all the way to the bone. Worlds better than Zippy's, KFC and Popeye's. I forgot how delicious they were and will definitely patronize them more. Highly recommended for the fried chicken fan! SERVICE: I phoned in my order and it was ready and waiting for us by the time we got there 10 minutes later. The female worker in the kitchen was very friendly and pleasant. TIP: Definitely call in your order for the fried chicken boxes as they sometimes run out or stop making them at a certain point. The kitchen and food display cases were all empty and cleaned when I got there around 7:30pm, so she must've threw some in the fryer for me. Thanks, eh! OVERALL: IMO, the tastiest fried chicken money can buy. 5 stars!

Maui's best fried chicken!!! This minit stop location is the best!!! I come here almost everyday before heading to work to get my usual breakfast and coffee. The cashier Ana is the most genuine lady there! I love how she interacts with the customers and her kindness is so wonderful... One of the reasons I look forward to coming here! They have a selection of plate lunches, also a variety of finger foods too! I did notice that they now offer flying saucers!!! YAY!!! Don't need to wait for the county fair anymore hahaha... There were a couple choices for the flying saucers, tuna melt, & pepperoni pizza. On the packaging will have all the different kinds they offer, but, I'm guessing you need to get there really early to get the one that you want. So, go stop by get your flying saucers and fried chicken and say hello to Ana!!!

The Hawaiian version of a 7-Eleven or Wawa but better. Try the fried chicken. It's pretty good and better than most fast food places.

If your in a rush and need a good lunch or dinner this is it !!!! GREAT prices and REALLY good chicken. DON'T forget some Potato Wedges ! We always get a egg roll or two as well. You cant beat the price. The store is clean the staff is friendly . There is even a little area to eat but we always take it to go. Lots of other items there too and plenty of drinks to choose from. This place is a winner and wont break the bank !

i was advised to get spam musubi from minit stop because it's quick, easy, inexpensive, and filling while you're on the go. i was a little skeptical because gas station food is looked down on where i'm from, but the minit stop spam musubi was tasty and ticked every box.

I've been avoiding this review for a long time. I'm hoping that this message will actually land in…read morethe hands of the corporate management team. I live on Maui. I shop at this Safeway constantly. I also shop at the two other Safeway stores in Kahului. There's a glaring issue at this store which is often noticed by several shoppers as we all search the: Entrances, self-checkout, every checkout line, back to the self-checkout and then... Back outside to get a cart because there's absolutely zero hand baskets to grab a few items. None. Chronically. I shop at odd hours. Tonight, 12:30 in the morning? There were none, anywhere. A few weeks ago? Stacks of them. They suddenly disappeared. I shop there daily. I do not buy a cart full of groceries. I live alone and do not dare fill my fridge. A bag of groceries at a time is sufficient. Having to use a cart causes gathering more items than will fit in a bag, which I want to be able to carry in one trip from my parking area to my second floor apartment. Stacks of these baskets just disappear from this store, suddenly. No other nearby grocery stores apparently have this problem. Times? Always a stack by the entrance. Foodland? Always a stack by the entrance. The other Safeway locations? So many it makes me wonder what's actually happening. The employee I spoke to says 'people just take them to their cars and drive away with them.' Ok, sure. Then why not the Times and Foodland baskets? Why not the Safeway location that has two homeless camps nearby? That store has more hand baskets than parking spots! Recently they started charging 15 cents for bags. Maybe I'm just old school but isn't that what the food we pay a lot for is already supposed to cover the costs of? I pay $5 a pound for 5 apples and then I have to pay 15 cents to avoid juggling them? But with any phone number there's an always sale on most items. They will discount items for me sometimes in dollars but if I want to buy enough I can't carry them it's 15 cents more. Oh, and then they also eliminated the bags with carry handles so paying for bags decreased the quality of each bag I have to buy. And I have to use a cart to make my selections, pushing the cart around looking so empty. It's a psychological trick - remove the hand baskets that carry exactly one bag of groceries, make customera use a cart that is easy to impulsively add a few items too many for a bag, charge for bags and decrease the quality of the bags so they're more difficult to carry. Oh, and once you walked all over hoping to find a convenient hand baskets you have to walk back out to the parking lot to get a cart with self-locking wheels that sometimes activate automatically by one of the two entrances. It's the ONLY grocery store on Maui that can't seem to keep track of their hand baskets. Two stars because this problem is isolated to this store and that needs upper management to intervene. Oh, and while I'm getting management on the line - your new flavors of always on sale buy 2 get 1 free items don't ring up correctly - that's a $4.99 sleight of hand, I mean, false advertising that has tricked me a few times until I figured out what the problem is: the new UPC flavor isn't tied to the sale price that the other 7 flavors of same brand and size beverages are displayed with. An entire beverage cooler with every item marked buy 2 get 1 free should have all the prices marked correctly. I have mentioned it to each store 'management' and every cashier corrects it manually because that's the right price. I'll change my rating to 3 stars if you fix the false advertising on the new flavor beverages. I'll make it 4 stars when the hand basket problem gets solved. If the store manager can't figure it out maybe they could ask the management at Times or Foodland just down the road a bit how they are able to keep their baskets - baskets that appear like they have had them for awhile.

In the back, you will find a food court with endless options, whether you grab what is already laid out or order fresh off the menu. I had the California roll twice, and the rice was so soft with a perfect rice-to-filling ratio, easily the best California roll I have ever had. I also tried the BBQ flatbread, which was pretty good. Ordering off the menu was also a great option. I got the fried rice and galbi, which came with sides and were all delicious. One thing my friend could not stop talking about was the poke, which was slightly on the spicier side but fresh, soft, and very tasty. This place has it all, and you really cannot go wrong. It might be a bit more on the expensive side depending on what you get, but it is pretty in line with the rest of Hawaii's pricing. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
