Pro tip: call ahead and ask if they have chicken. After reading some of the reviews, I was worried that they might run out of chicken. I know it sounds silly but this place is about a month ago and is still busy. The staff are all very nice. They told me it would take 20 mins for my 8 piece meal (4 thighs and 4 legs). It comes with 2 fries, 1 coleslaw, and 4 dinner rolls. Plenty of parking when it's not too busy. They have 3 tables and 6 barstools at this communal wall table. Prices were very fair. The food was piping hot when we received it. They have two restrooms: As for the butter crust, butter is most likely added to the flour. You're not going to take a bite out of the chicken and expect to taste butter flavor. However, you will taste seasoning on the skin as well as the chicken itself. Most chicken places I've been to, they usually only have seasoning on the skin, not the actual chicken. We devoured the chicken because it was seasoned and juicy. Although some pieces might have had a bit too much salt. I'm not a big fan of crinkle cut fries but these were also seasoned. They taste better when you order cheese with them. Minihut is a busy place. One suggestion I have; listen to your customer. I said I was eating in and the person taking my order decided I was a to go order. I ordered chicken and was told it would take thirty five minutes. That's a long wait for a two piece. My Hotdog and fries were good. read more

Butter crust chicken is amazing. Went with my son we both had the 2-thigh meals. Fries are crinkle cut and very crispy/fresh. They serve a small dinner roll with the meal. Only wish they served a side packet of butter with the roll. It was just dry (but fresh) bread; needed butter or maybe a little honey. 3 people working. I'm legitimately in love...with fried chicken. This is the second location for a local entrepreneur, Brett...also side note super interesting story of how the original location reopened through him. Excited to see his journey into quickly becoming a serial entrepreneur! Fair warning this chicken is FRESH...cooked to order, that means there is a wait... so HIGHLY recommend calling ahead otherwise minimum 20-25 minute wait. Since they just opened I have heard of hour long waits. It IS worth it. Everyone was super nice there. The chicken is marinated over night and the seasoning is phenomenal. I got the 20 piece family dinner to eat with the fam bam and we are now emotionally attached. The batter is light, crispy, and has a lot of flavor. When we saw the fries, initially didn't have super high expectations...but they are also seasoned well and cooked in beef tallow for extra yumminess. Came with Cole slaw and rolls, which for me were just ok, nothing to get excited over. The chicken is the star! They also have burgers, Italian beef's, Vienna Hot dogs/Polish, and pizza puffs! I had to get the pizza puff because those also bring me amazing childhood memories. Located in a strip mall. There are a couple of tables, but primarily a take out spot. Ample parking in the strip. Legit butter crust fried chicken! The skin has the right crisp and juicy. It is flavorful and delicious. I recommend to call in to order as they make it fresh to order. Usually takes about 20 mins and could be an hour wait on their busy time and day. It comes with dinner rolls. They have few options for sides. Inside has few tables and counter. Has it really been 12 years since I first had the special famous butter crust chicken at the Archer location in Garfield Ridge? Well yes it has. There's a young man that has brought it back to life and Darien is the first of hopefully many new locations. Perhaps a franchise is in your future? They have hotdog dogs, burgers, and even Italian beef on the menu as well. The star of the show is the chicken. Be patient, every piece is cooked to order, takes about 25 minutes, so call ahead. Somehow we came across this newly opened restaurant, close to home, and it had reviews. The hype is REAL!!! I read about this new chicken place in Darien. I had to try it! The place was busy for a Friday afternoon. You walk in, there are a few tables and some counter space. Everything is clean. Staff is friendly and quick to take your order. The chicken is made to order so it takes about 20 minutes but believe me it's worth the wait. They can text you when it's ready or you can order ahead and pick it up. There's a 3% charge to use your credit card, so maybe cash is king here. I ordered the 4 piece chicken that came with fries, bun, and Cole slaw. Home run for everything!!! The chicken was so good, not greasy, crispy and juicy. The fries tasted like potatoes, dang. The coleslaw was good too, creamy, fresh, with a hint of tang. Very good!!! I'll be back! 2 suggestions: 1. Place additional chairs along the window area so people can sit while waiting. 2. Add unsweetened ice tea to your beverages. I saw you had zero Pepsi but for us diabetics a nice unsweetened beverage without artificial sweeteners would be a nice nod to us! Good job! read more

Saw the young owner of TV Food Guy & thought okay if ever I'm near Archer St I've got to try the chicken~ well got my wish closer to home with 2nd location in Darien on Cass/Plainfield Ordered a 6 wing dinner w/fries & a side of mild sauce then made the drive home 15-20 mins to enjoy my meal which DID NOT disappoint! I saw a review of this establishment by the Mauro (Food Network) guy on YouTube. I was a bit reluctant to try it because of the distance from my home to Chicago for an unknown, which was not on my Bingo card. However, it was mentioned there was one in Darien, which is only about 10 minutes from home, I thought it would be a good try. I arrived about 2 hours before their closing time of 8:00 pm and was told there was no chicken. Hmmm...isn't that what they are to be famous for??? Running out of your main attraction, is like McDonald's running out of hamburgers. I guess that can happen, but it would reflect poorly on the business management side. Needless to say, that was very disappointing to hear from the cashier taking orders, so I decided it was not a place for me. As I was getting in my car, to go across the street to Popeyes Chicken (I knew they would have chicken) a person (I think manager) came to me and said we found some chicken. Reluctantly, I went back in and placed my order, which was ready in minutes or seconds. Admittedly, I was in my feelings a bit, but I wanted to taste the chicken because it was "butter" crust...butter makes everything good (right?). So here is my review and I will add, I may give them another chance to prove me wrong. The 4 piece chicken I ordered was supposed to be 1 each: breast, wing, thigh, and leg. I received 2 thighs, 1 leg, and 1 wing. I'm generally an all wings guy. The food was still hot when I got home about 5-8 minutes later. The crispiness was 3 out of 5, the flavor was 2 out 5 (no evidence of butter flavor), the fries were below 2 out of 5 (they were plain tasting and unevenly fried, i.e., some were dark and others were light). i didn't eat the little broke roll, and the cole slaw was pretty average (nothing to write home about). With all that said, I will give them a 2nd chance. I was advised to order ahead of time to be sure they didn't run out of food. That is alarming, but okay. I guess It will need to be on a day when I know I want to have chicken from the Mini Hut before I've eaten breakfast and then plan my day accordingly. I'm certain I can make better chicken at home, so it will also require me to be less flexible about what time I want to eat and if I want my food to be prepared well ahead of time when I want to pick it up...perhaps the food will be cold. The actual staff was friendly and this post is not intended to personally attack or highlight any one individual. I know I will never order dinner in the morning unless I am cooking it and need to get food from the grocery store. Therefore, the next time, will involve me going in to place my order around dinner time, even if it means I have to wait 20 minutes. I stopped in the Darien location to get some of their delicious fried chicken. The taste was exactly how I remembered it from the Archer & Normandy location. The food was great & the service was outstanding. I didn't realize that the original location had reopened. Darien is closer for me. Hats off to the lovely folks running the Darien location. I'll stop into the Archer Ave location if I'm ever in the area. read more
