I did not know there was a tofu pudding place here so I was delighted to find this out today. It's…read morea small shop. Calling it a hole in the wall is an understatement. I walked past it like three times before I found it. They remind me a lot of the old Chinatown stall that sells tofu except this was is completely outdoors. They sell other stuff like tofu puffs, tofu blocks, rice noodles, bean sprouts. I came midday around 3pmish and it was quite busy with lots of patrons. I got a large tofu pudding which is my childhood favorite for $4. This is the cheapest tofu pudding I had. The ones in Chinatown sell a large tofu pudding for $5-$10 depending on where you go. Bay Parkway sells it for $4.50-$5.50. Their pudding was smooth and delicate just like the way I like it. If I come to this area again, I will definitely stop by here.

The mochi was $6 per container and each container has 7 mochi balls. There's two flavors: red bean filling and peanut filling. I got a mix of both and they were both delicious, not too sweet. I really enjoyed the red bean, I'm not a huge fan of red bean but this one was really good. The mochi was soft too. I also got a small tofu pudding for $2.50 which tasted fine. It was okay, better when warm but I ended up eating a couple hours later.

Gobuki Food Cart - Fried Udon Noodle Dish

I had my first opportunity to visit Gobuki today. I dropped by around 2PM and the stall was empty…read moresans the male and female couple manning the cart. A quick look at the menu yields the usual suspects found on fast food Korean menus: kalbi over rice and bulgogi sandwich. However, what intrigued me was the fried udon, which I ended up ordering. The chef stir fried a pack of white udon noodles with sliced cabbage and carrots, adding sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce. I was pretty happy when the tourists walking by murmured, "That smells so good." As a Yelper, you have to love "food envy". I added on extra beef and when I received my order, I was pleasantly surprised by the weight. Seemed like a great bargain for $8. I settled back at my apartment and started my feast. The dish was packed with udon, rice, bulgogi, veggies and three fried dumplings. The dumplings were subpar, but still a nice side dish, acting similar to a breadbasket. It's there for you, but you don't have to eat it. The top was covered with bulgogi and Korean chili sauce, an above average showing for a food cart. The beef is nicely marinated and with the paste had a nice sweet and mildy spicy flavor. The udon noodles were excellent. Fried and cooked with soy sauce and oyster sauce, the noodles had a slight brown tint and smelled amazing The lady also drizzled some aioli sauce and bundled with the veggies gave off a creamy texture. Add to the fact that it's a rare dish to find at a food truck, gives the fried udon even more value. All in all, it seemed like a great and solid cart. Hopefully, Gobuki will stay for a while and the lines will start forming (not sure how it is during prime lunch time). I do have to note that the surface for cooking was rather small, so there could be a production logjam if customers are ordering the fried udon in multiples.

Bapcha used to be there and I didn't like their food that much (plus their cheap portions), but I saw a different team there and figured to give it a shot. The kalbi is VERY flavorful and the meat to rice ratio is pretty good (not cheap with the meat). They also offer it in a (baguette) and have bulgoki (with rice or on baguette also), mandu, spicy chicken, and fried udon. Looking forward to the fried udon next time I go there. Decent prices ranging from $6-$8. The only downfall is that it's a long line and you may have to wait a little - but better than Duke (feels like sardines in there!).

On the Fourth day in NYC, I said, "I command YELP to lead me to the best rated Hot Dog on the Upper…read moreEast Side." Yelp obeyed, and led me to the Hot Dog. I put it in my mouth, and that's what happened. I inhaled the whole thang down. Then I looked at what I had done, and it was good. I think the vendor's secret must be either using Hebrew National or injecting liquid into the hot dog, because it's so moist and juicy when you bite into it. The amount of condiments and kraut is just right.

I don't care if it's not in good taste to give a hot dog vendor 5 stars. For $2, I enjoyed my first real meal of the day and the first in NYC in 2 years - a dog with spicy mustard and sauerkraut. And it was good, people. Reeeal good. Made well enough that mustard didn't squirt out all over me and peg me as the lame-o Midwesterner posing as a slick kitty from the city for a day. Delicious enough to soothe my empty stomach (yes, it's true - sauerkraut can soothe! Who knew?). I think I mentioned in my Renegade Craft Fair review that I purchased an "I [picture of Chicago-style hot dog] Chicago" t-shirt, which has led my husband and me to add "I hot dog Chicago" to our vernacular. Now I can say I hot dog New York, too.
