But get this, since the order was over $31 we got some freebies: 3 egg rolls and a Chicken Fried Rice! At most places when you order the "Family Dinner Combos" you can't get their freebies, the freebies are only if you order à la carte, but at Golden Capital you get the freebies regardless of what you order as long as it's over $31. Woo hoo!! The portions are big and the food was very good. The egg rolls are the closed-ended type. They are filled with ground pork and cabbage. There's lots of meat, it's not mostly cabbage like at some places. Good flavour. The Special Fried Rice was full of small shrimp, BBQ pork and chicken. Lots of soy sauce though, the rice was very dark. No vegetables. The free Chicken Fried Rice was similar just without the shrimp and BBQ pork. The Garlic Spare Ribs were sweet and sticky. Nicely done. The Imperial Beef was spicy. You could see the flecks of chili peppers. The beef is not battered nor deep fried. The beef is tender and plentiful. Vegetables included broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and onion. The Sweet and Sour Shrimps were basically like Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls but shrimp instead of chicken. The breading was a little too heavy for my liking, but this is typical of this type of dish. Probably my least favourite of all the things ordered. The Special Shanghai Noodles had medium sized shrimp, chicken and BBQ pork stir-fried with cabbage, onions and udon noodles. There was a lot of soy sauce in this dish as there was in the fried rice. I thought that Mushrooms Guy Pen would be a vegetarian dish, but was pleasantly surprised to find large pieces of chicken in it. There are white mushrooms in this dish, along with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and onions. The flavour is mild and everything is stir-fried in a light coloured gravy-like sauce. I thought that the Special Bean Curd dish would be a vegetarian dish as well, again I was wrong, there were pieces of pork in it. The tofu in this dish was deep fried. It tasted like the pork was battered somewhat. The vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and onion. The taste was similar to the Mushrooms Guy Pen but the sauce was more opaque. So vegetarians and vegans beware, dishes that sound like they would be vegetarian contain meat! Overall I thought the food was very good. Yes, the vegetables are pretty much the same in many dishes and some sauces taste very similar. And it's North American Chinese Food. However, for the price I think it's a great deal since you get a lot of food, and the taste is good. It took about 45 minutes from the time I ordered to the time it arrived, which I think is reasonable. The delivery man was very nice. You also get a "coupon" every time you order over $23 worth of food (1 coupon per order, so I only got 1 coupon even though I ordered $58 worth of food). Once you collect 10 "coupons" you can claim a free "Dinner for 2" but you have to pick up your free dinner yourself (no delivery). Just so you know, the prices on the website are out-of-date. The new prices are a little bit higher (although not much, like just $0.20 difference for the fried rices, the biggest price hike is $3 for the Dinners for 5 and 6). I would order from here again.

Having grown up in Ottawa I have a certain recollection of garlic spare ribs and distinct egg rolls. Having lived in a few Canadian cities Ive noticed dishes change from city to city. One thing that sets Ottawa apart is the ever famous garlic spare ribs! Quite frankly one of my all time faves. And Craig Henry Chinese didn't disappoint. We ordered it for delivery and service was prompt and food was piping hot. The to-go containers were sturdy and made for easy leftovers... And trust me, the generous portions allowed for that!

I had the buffet lunch ($14.50) at Golden Bowl with a couple of girlfriends and I can sum up my…read morefeelings in two words, or one emoticon: sad face :( The buffet was incredibly small, only about 10 items, and the food in my opinion was on par with the likes of Manchu Wok and other such food court Westernized Chinese food vendors. Actually, the best of the food was Manchu Wok caliber, some items did not even meet this low standard, at least not in my opinion. The place has been around for decades and it would appear to me that no renovations have been made for decades. On the buffet was: wonton soup, egg rolls, chicken balls, salt and pepper fried chicken pieces, garlic spare ribs, vegetarian fried noodles, chicken fried rice, beef and vegetables stir-fry, fried chicken wings, and chow mein. So only 10 "real items" then they had stuff like pineapple sauce, sweet and sour sauce, almond cookies, and some sort of deep-fried dough pieces. No ice cream! :( Let's start with the good: the chicken balls were filled with lean white breast meat and the meat to batter ratio was pretty good. They weren't all dough. They were crispy, and if one were to like sweet and sour chicken balls in general, I think that one would enjoy these. The egg rolls were also pretty good. They were very crispy and the wrapper was thinner and crunchier than I've had at other places. The filling was ground pork and vegetables and had a strong five-spice fragrance to it. The wonton soup was also not bad. I liked that the soup had some leafy greens in it and wasn't overly oily/greasy. The actual wontons were a bit mushy, but the filling to wrapper ratio was good. The flavour was good. The unremarkable: chicken fried rice, vegetarian noodles, beef and vegetables stir-fry, and garlic spare ribs. The bad: the salt and pepper fried chicken pieces I found very weird. The meat was dark meat and had a strange texture. It was too salty and not that peppery to me. The "I did not try it because it did not look appetizing to me": fried chicken wings (looked really dry and greyish), the chow mein (I hate bean sprouts), the almond cookies (looked store bought) and the crunchy fried dough things. Service was nice and efficient. We were greeted right away and led to our seats. We were given water shortly after and our waters were refilled often and without having to ask. When we first arrived a bit before noon, there were only a few patrons, but after 12pm the place got really busy, so it looks like there's definitely a market for this kind of food, it's just not my jam.
