Seeing as my initial review was 7 years ago, I figured it was time to write an update. I had had takeout from The New Queen multiple times, but only recently actually dined in. I'm happy to proclaim that it's still a solid 4 stars! Most of their business is takeout and delivery, but they do have a sizeable dining room. This place is certainly a family business. Our server, Calvin, is the son. His dad is in the kitchen, and his mom does a bit of everything (including serving the alcohol, because I think Calvin is underaged, or maybe he's just youthful looking and happens to not be Smart Serve certified, lol). Everyone was really nice and courteous, and Calvin was very attentive (refilling waters, checking in on us, etc.). We had egg rolls ($1.50 each), wonton soup ($4.50), Pineapple and Shrimp Fried Rice ($14.50), General Tao Chicken ($12.50) and Beef and Vegetables ($11). For 3 people, this was a lot of food. We had leftovers. The egg rolls were open ended and were crispy and full of ground pork. The wonton soup was tasty. The broth was flavourful, albeit a tad too salty for my liking. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. I liked that there were leafy greens in the soup, and even a slice of BBQ pork. The wontons themselves were filled with ground pork; more wrapper than filling, but this is the norm at most restaurants. The Pineapple and Shrimp Fried Rice was phenomenal. It was spicy in the sense that it was full of spices, but not hot spicy. It had a strong curry flavour to it. So flavourful and also generous with the amount of large shrimp. I have to admit that the General Tao Chicken did not look too appetizing, but looks in this case were deceiving because it tasted great. Not too spicy, and no strong hoisin taste (I don't like hoisin). More sweet than tangy. There were no leftovers for this dish. The Beef and Broccoli was good and filled with vegetables: broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, bamboo, baby corn, cabbage and onions. The beef was tender and there was a decent amount of it. The flavour was mild and less complex than with the other dishes, but we wanted a dish with vegetables in an attempt to be somewhat healthy that meal. This dish would be great for the less adventurous or those who are reluctant to try anything "too exotic." Those accustomed to international flavours may find it a bit boring. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. They are licensed but their alcohol selection is very limited. The hubster and his dad wanted red wine and there was only one choice. Luckily for everyone, they like Merlot. I feel that The New Queen is somewhere in between authentic Chinese cuisine and very Westernized Chinese food, although on the latter end of the spectrum. Yes, the place settings are set up with only forks and knives (no chopsticks), but the restaurant is in Stittsville, so you have to cater to your clientele ;) You won't find anything too exotic. However, the food is not greasy nor bland and actually has some flavour and spices. It is much better than most Canadian-Chinese food places in Stittsville/Kanata. Lots of people coming in and out for takeout, and delivery guys from different food delivering companies. It's not a date night kind of place, more a casual eatery. It's in a little strip mall, so there's free parking in the lot in front of the restaurant. Highly recommended! read more

Great Chinese food, we order from them all the time. I shouldnt be writing this as I want less people to use it for selfish reasons. We always order takeout. I work near Chinatown and this restaurant would be among the best in Chinatown. read more

We ordered takeout, and everything arrived perfectly prepared, hot and fresh. There was no grumbling about preparing our order without onions (and not one slipped into any of the dishes! It's not uncommon for us to still get them in the fried rice from other places). Service friendly and professional. A wonderful experience. read more

Under new management. Great quality items and good prices! Service was great and friendly. I tried some of their combos, as well as pork and spareribs items and they came quickly, and were hot. Spring roll, one of my favourite items, was made hot and the sauce was on the side. Overall good value and I have another favorite restaurant!!! read more

We've been getting take out from New Queen for 5-6 years now. Food is great, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. $50 feeds my family of five for dinner -- and lunch the next day!! General Tsao chicken and Schezchuan Pork are fab. Kids love their house special fried rice, won ton soup and spring rolls. Highly recommend this great, family-owned place! read more

I don't generally give 5-star reviews because there's always room for improvement, but I'd gladly give New Queen 4.5 stars. The food is always fresh with plentiful portions. Everything is tasty, soups are delicious, egg rolls are open end. Prices have risen during the pandemic, as is the case with most restaurants, but this is still less expensive than most Chinese restaurants -- plus, they offer bonus fried rice and egg rolls for large orders. Dining room has been closed since Covid, so I've never dined in. Only complaint is it's very difficult to get through on phone --perhaps they're just that busy. But dropping by to order is fast, especially when they have 2 chefs -- 20 minutes for a very large $80 order. read more

If I could give a half star, I would. Honestly a very disappointing meal. We went there after reading two great reviews on here, ironically. However, the minute we walked in we got worried. The place had a very strange smell. The staff kind of stared at us like we walked in dressed as bee keepers or something. We are pretty normal looking people, lol. The food. Hmmm. Rice was a nondescript gelatinous glob of tasteless. I get why they give you extra rice, for free. No one wants it. Get it away from me!! General tsao chicken (which garnered rave reviews from others on here) well it was weird...weirdly awful. The ribs were just ok. The beef and broccoli was inoffensive but lacked any real flavour. The almond cookies were the only thing I actually enjoyed. For the first time in my adult life, I threw away the leftovers. I think that says it all folks. Save your money. read more

Since new owners took over they rarely answer the phone. Was told my order would be 20 minutes and it took an hour. Last two times the orders were wrong. When I called to let them know they did not offer to remake them but would tell their chef, how about apologizing and making it right. Never going back again. read more

The best Chinese food in the West end of Ottawa/Kanata. We are Vegetarians and gave up on Chinese food until we found New Queen. They are so accommodating to us. The food is fresh and delicious. Each dish is flavourful. Usually when we order vegetarian dishes at other restaurants every dish tastes the same. Not here. The owners take great pride of their restaurant and it shows. Go and eat great food instead of that bland excuse for Chinese food available everywhere else (yes l tried it). read more

Food was terrible. No taste at all. Somebody forgot to season our order. Mushy egg rolls. Called to complain. Not much of a response other than "oh, what do you want me to do about it". Will never order from this restaurant again. read more
