When you're looking for legit Japanese goodies to treat yourself or give as gifts, this is place to come to. Whenever I come to Kahala Mall, I make a beeline to this standalone kiosk to check out the latest offerings. With locations in Japan, New York and California, Minamoto specializes in wagashi, Japanese confections made with seasonal fresh fruit. On the day after Girl's Day, they were sold out of the strawberry mochi boxes, but thankfully they still had several Sakura treats to try. Here's what we tried in the order we sampled them: Sakura Goromo (Sakura Pancake): sweet bean paste, mochi and pickled cherry blossom leaf wrapped encased taco style in a pink pancake similar in texture to the Ethiopian bread injera but not as chewy. It was the most IG worthy, but there were more flavorful treats in the bunch. Ouka Shigure: steamed flour and egg yolk cake filled with cherry blossom infused white bean. Very delicate flavor, with a small cherry blossom on top. Sakura Mochi: this was a flavor bomb, due to the salted cherry blossom leaves wrapped around mochi rice and sweet red bean paste. My fave of the bunch. Beni Hogyoku: my second fave, glad I ended the tasting with this sweet, soft mochi encasing white bean paste and a whole cherry that was pickled in sugar. I gravitate toward the mochi, but I'm sure the baumkuchen cakes are just as amazing.

Delicious and cute mochi/ manju desserts. I hade the Usagi strawberry and Yuzu bunnies for Easter. Just tried the Sakura mochi. So delish. Bought the watermelon, peach, and mango sherbet for a gift.

I want to shout out to my brother Craig T. a fellow yelper who surprise me with some snacks for a early girls day. He and he's wife brought me some cookies and some cute little mochi in a bag. I tried the pink cookie called sakura and i thought it was good the taste of the cookie tasted kinda of like marachino cherries taste but thats me. I'll try the white one which suppose to be butter. And of course the little mochi which have filling in them. My brother said its a little expensive just for mochi and cookies but the Japan tourist love it. But he said what the hey go for it my sister deserve it. How nice of him and he's wife Support local at the malls and wear your masks.

Minamoto Kitchoan has opened up another location in Honolulu. This time a sizeable kiosk at Kahala Mall. The lighting is well done as to let everyone know they are there, just between Soho and Macy's in the Mall. Taste and presentation are definitely up there in quality. It is also reflected in the prices. So if you get a gift or give a gift from K.Minamoto you will definitely know it is special! Today the white peach, the pear, the green tea mochi caught my eyes. The displays tempting each passerby and calling....take me home with you!

It was about 10 and not much to choose from this late in the eve. Looked on Yelp and found a five-star spot that closed at midnight. A unicorn perhaps, or just paid social media BSers hyping up basura? And it was within walking distance. Let's go find out. MOSA is like in a backstreet off of the main Kalakaua drag. It's like a little hut with some outdoor seating out front. Simple menu that offers eight different flavors that you order in a cup or a crepe. Wanted something not too messy and just portable enough to eat from while walking back, so I got the cup. Got two scoops of ube and Kona coffe sprinkled with crushed mac nuts. DELICIOUS. Loved the texture...very creamy, almost chewy. Lovely textures. Flavors were on point, too. It's on the pricier side for ice cream, though, but I think it's worth it for what you're getting. Great stuff!

I'll definitely have to come back to try that next time. // Single Scoop Cup (Kona Coffee) The single scoop comes in the cutest little flower pot with a tiny shovel spoon, which made it even more fun. The Kona coffee ice cream was incredibly smooth, rich, and creamy with a slightly stretchy texture that I really enjoyed. The roasted peanut sprinkles added a delicious crunch and subtle nutty flavor that complemented the ice cream perfectly. The service was also very friendly and quick! Overall, I really enjoyed it and would happily come back. While it didn't quite reach "must-have" status for me, it was still a delicious treat that's worth trying.

The donuts were soft and fluffy on the inside and didn't feel heavy or overly greasy. The cinnamon sugar was probably my favorite. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and was simple but so good. The chocolate glazed was delicious too! The chocolate was rich, smooth, and sweet without being too much. They definitely didn't hold back on the chocolate either The service was great as well. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and even though it was busy, everything moved along pretty smoothly. Our order came out fresh, and we didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere is very casual and laid-back. It's not a fancy place, but that's part of what I liked about it. It has that classic local bakery feel with people coming in excited to grab something fresh. It was busy and had a lot of energy, but it added to the experience. I completely understand why Leonard's is so popular. Sometimes places get a lot of hype and don't live up to it, but this place definitely did for me. If you're visiting Honolulu and love fresh donuts, add Leonard's to your list. I would absolutely come back! 10/10!

There's no place to sit so be ready to take the treats somewhere to enjoy. There was a line outside but they had a system so we did not have to wait too long to get our bright pink box of goodness. The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I'm trying to remember but I think there was a book off that was not too far from here! If you either drive or maybe walk. Service: staff was super helpful and friendly while I was there. The matcha flavor actually came through rich and complex while still feeling light and balanced. On top of the food and drinks, the ambiance was amazing and the service was excellent. Hubs had to fast from 6 am for his 2 pm surgery so I thought he would probably be starving and would enjoy a delectable salt and butter roll from here. At $4.50 a piece I consider this a luxury for us. I found a close stall in the parking structure. A very cheerful polite male employee took my order. I had seen two occupied tables as I walked into the shop. Both had matcha drinks. Why not? I asked the young man assisting me, what's the best matcha drink? He said his favorite was banana matcha with extra banana foam. Okay I'll try it. He repeated it to the cashier. So popular there was a wait for beverages to be prepared. Soon enough mine was ready. I think Doc would enjoy this drink. This shop is a working bakery. Many yummy pastries displayed. Menu is posted high up above to choose from. Rather tiny shop with room for customers to stand in line to order and wait for drinks. Clean, busy with a few tables and chairs outside but pretty much in direct sun.
