I spent an agonizingly stressful 2 hours to find even one location via public transportation, and I paid far too much for chocolates I was led to believe were authentic to Hawaii. Found this little chocolate shop nestled between Subway and Pearls Kitchen in Kahala Mall. According to the worker who helped us the shop has been there for a Couple of years. Well we did pick up a few pieces of chocolates to try. We had the chocolate dipped oreos. Both white and milk chocolate. For me the white chocolate cookie had a slight edge in taste. Also tried the dipped cherry. The rich dark chocolate encasing the cherry was delicious, but overwelmed the taste of the cherry. Quality chocolate and friendly service. What a surprise to see a chocolate candy store in Kahala Mall. And what timing on my discovery, Valentine's Day! Diamond Head Chocolate company is located close to the Cookie Corner. They have an assortment of chocolate for the chocolate lover. They sell individual chocolates but they also sell chocolate covered fruits. Not sure if it was a Valentine's special but they had chocolate covered strawberries. This store was definitely ready for Valentine's Day. I got the six pack of chocolate covered strawberries. They asked me if I wanted dark, milk , or a mixed box. I chose the mixed box. We weren't able to eat our chocolates right away so I put them in the refrigerator. By the time I took them out to eat, the chocolate coating was hard. My daughter had some difficulty biting into it. One bite and all the chocolate coating fell off into pieces. It was a little sad. So she at the strawberry and the chocolate separate. Overall good location for this store and I'd like to try some of their other treats on the next visit. read more

This is a really cute shop with tons of specialty items. In preparation for Chinese New Year, they have themed cookies along with all their usual staples. I think my favorite is probably the chocolate covered Oreos in set with dark, milk and white chocolate. At $33 a box it's something I only get occasionally though. Located in Kahalas restaurant row its surrounded by pandas, Taco Bell, cookie corner, subway and pretzel maker. Easy to grab lunch and then a box of sweets. They use to be Honolulu Chocolate Company but then I think one partner moved so they had to rebrand. This is also great omiyage. I love the chocolate covered oreos, the smores bark, rocky road, and chocolate covered blueberries. Their pieces are great for party favors as well. Customer service is always nice...not overly friendly, but more reserved and helpful if you verbalize; checkout takes a bit as they care about their packaging. One of the newest merchants in Kahala Mall to take up residence is that of Diamond Head Chocolate Company. I noticed this shoppe when walking to Panda Express one December 2020 evening. It's basically next door! I haven't heard of the Diamond Head Chocolate Company until I noticed them here at their second location in Kahala. Their initial location is headquartered at Ward Center. My experience here took about 30 minutes, trying to look at all the deliciousness that can be had here. My eyes gazed upon the chocolate covered Oreo cookies and that sounded like heavenly bliss for sure. The only issue with fancy chocolate and chocolate covered goodies is that it can be spendy and pricey from the normal Hershey bars you'd find at the local store. From the moment I stepped here, I knew that this would be a pricey experience and for those of us who are trying to be budget friendly, this usually isn't. Sometimes, splurging is the spice of life, I suppose. Basically, if you can cover chocolate on it and it's edible, you are pretty much golden here. Diamond Head Chocolate covers the classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Are there any other types of chocolate? I got to say those golden Oreos are awesome. You must try it to believe it. The other offerings are popular fan favorites, from chocolate covered nuts to fruit, and other delicious options. You can't lose here, although prices can be spendy. The overall experience here at the Diamond Head Chocolate Company here at the Kahala Mall is neat. It's always nice to have new merchants here to keep the mall interesting, as I have lived in the area all my life. For the most part though, my experience here was brief, but you can be sure I will be here next time to get more. They accept major credit cards and cash, although with the current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the credit card option remains to be preferred, along with social distancing and face mask wearing is required. As far as parking goes, there's a plethora of parking spaces here at the mall. Best bet would be to get here early enough to secure the best spot before the crowds come. If you are like me, bus routes 1, 1L, 14, 22, 23, and 24 come thru the area and stops in various places around the mall. If it's chocolate, I'm usually there. This review is only for a single product, the dark chocolate covered lemon peels that are pre-packaged ($5.95 for approx. 4 pieces) purchased at Diamond Head Chocolate - Kahala Mall. There aren't any ingredients on the package, only a label that says "Dark Chocolate Lemon Peels". I opened them right away (so they did not "sit" anywhere). They are not lemon peels, instead they are some sort of clear gelatin style gummy with no flavor. Even the dark chocolate was not very flavorful. The Kahala store is small, beautifully decorated, and is packed full of delicious chocolate treats. On my last visit there the macadamia popcorn caught my attention, and I'm glad it did. My family loved it, as we wiped out the container. I gave one to my friend and she had to know where I bought it from. It literally is the best treat that we I have eaten in a very long time. Kid Sis gives me a box of Mac Nut Clusters for Xmas 2020. I put one in my mouth and it tastes bad. I spit it out into the sink. After inspecting the top layer, I find the chocolate mottled and cracked from age. I phone the Kahala store and voice my concerns, telling the rep he is selling a product that has exceeded its shelf life by at least a year. My advice for 2021? Went into the store because I saw they were offering a $2 for 2 chocolate dipped strawberry special on Valentine's Day. After asking a staff member if I could have the $2 strawberry special, he handed me a bag with 2 strawberries and charged my card. When I looked back at my receipt, I saw that they actually charged $6.50. I can't help but feel scammed and ripped off. When I went back into the store to check the price, I saw that the only difference between the bag I was given and the ones on special was a red ribbon on the top. I know a ribbon is nice, but it shouldn't cost $4! Since the employees were busy, I decided I would just keep the chocolates. They were shared amongst family and we all agreed the chocolate itself tasted cloyingly sweet, similar to Hershey's. Would have preferred going to Chocole'a, Manoa Chocolate, or even See's Candies in retrospect. This was my first job almost 30 years ago and my experience being an employee and now a customer brings back awesome memories . I worked at the Manoa store (we served coffee back then- learned how to be a top notch barista with the old fashioned machines and could layer my mochas with the best of em) and Ward locations. Always had a job when I returned summers. I will never forget that we were encouraged to try every truffle and product (yep, limit 1, lol) to give an accurate description to our customers and provide best suggestions. Having said that, my faves have and always will be: Grand Marnier, Champagne, Cappuccino, Hazelnut truffles, the almond bark, Oreos, Fortune cookies, turtles, Mac nut clusters, toffee pistachios, strawberries. To answer the question what is the difference with DHC v any other chocolate store, simply is the ingredients and the chocolate delights are expertly hand-dipped with love- always wondered about aunty Lei? who would come in early in the morning to dip the days stock and fufill orders. We have been going to the Ward location for over 20 years. They even did our wedding favors. I just did a big, last minute order from the Kahala store, and I could not be happier! It was literally as they were closing the night before, and I picked it up as they were opening their doors, and the order was perfect. I am about to order for Valentine's Day. I would say you absolutely need to order a "side order" for your self so that you are not tempted to eat everyone's gifts! ha ha! We love the chocolate covered fortune cookies the most.
