We had a really nice, cozy Wednesday night dinner here - certainly a hidden gem that deserves more hype and visibility! We were one of a few tables eating in the restaurant that night, although I understand it gets very busy on weekends. Sort of not-obvious to find, but look for the small blue neon sign n the back of the strip center of colorful buildings. Tons of parking, hooray! For food, they recommend you go family-style and order a few starters, couple of pastas, and a main protein to share. We opted for the sweet potato, crochettes, and fritter starters - my favorite was probably the crochettes, but all were really delicious. For pastas we did the fettucine and cacio e pepe - both were so good, but would say you gotta order the cacio e pepe; it was so rich and dreamy. For protein we ordered the gallina cornish hen, and it was also delicious - perfectly cooked to be tender and on a lovely bed of cauliflower mash. To end the night on a sweet note we shared the cioccolato salato - highly recommend! Pair all of that with the house red and you have a winner of a dinner, all for an affordable price IMO. read more

This restaurant is located in the same plaza as bohemeos. I missed the entrance twice, almost thrice. There's so much parking. Inside is very intimate and meticulously clean. We ordered the corn fritters, cacio e Pepe, the roasted red snapper, and the panda cotta. The amuse bouche was amazing. Bread, a nutty-soft cheese, pistachios, and honey. I could not get over how amazing the cheese was. Corn and zucchini fritters were delicious. Topped with honey and shaved romano. The corn was sweet and full of flavor. I didn't taste the zucchini at all but it was still a must try. I really wasn't expecting a lot from John's Cacio de Pepe. But to my surprise, it was actually better than planned. My friend said the pasta was just pasta. The roasted red snapper was cooked perfectly. Fish is so hard to get right and can get over cooked so easily. It was served on a piece of bread, with a slightly acidic red sauce. I liked the capers, onions, pepper, and leek (?). The star of the show was the panna cotta. I loved the vanilla bean at the bottom and top of the dish. The honey, cara cara orange, and a hint of mint. This was a dreamy dish. My friend said he was really shocked by how good it was. A cute spot to grab high end italian in a non-pretentious setting. The food was overall good. We loved the scallops and the pasta. We came here for a fantastic Italian dinner! They're located in the Tlaquepaque Market but you can't see it off telephone road. Turn into the entrance where you see the Tlaquepaque Market sign and it will be across from Bohemeos in the back. There is a big private parking lot with plenty of spots. Everything was great from start to finish! The inside of the restaurant was clean and casual. They have an outdoor patio, which will open later in the year once summer and the heat wave is over. The service was great. Our waiter, Amir, was attentive to all the details! We also got an amuse bouche at the beginning. It was a slice of bread topped with artichoke, sprinkled with Parmesan and olive oil. It was a really great palate cleanser and way to start the meal! They also do happy hour everyday from 5-6 pm and all drinks are 50% off, so we ended up getting a bottle of wine with dinner. We ordered the: -scallop carpaccio (special of the day): topped with lemon, balsamic, micro greens, pine nuts. This was very light and refreshing. Scallops were fresh. -pappardelle: braised lamb, wild mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, grana podano, herbs. This was a really flavorful and well made pasta! The lamb, mushroom, and tomatoes went so well together. -filet: 8 oz tenderloin roasted in rosemary and vino rosso, parmigiano mashed potato, wild mushrooms. We asked for rare and it was cooked prob more medium, so a little more cooked than I would have liked. They sliced the filet versus cooking it whole. The wild mushrooms and mashed potatoes were very good . -panna cotta: light and great way to end the meal! We will definitely be back here to try other items! Mimo is new favorite, trendy lunch spot... and their Houston Restaurant Weeks lunch menu is one of the best 'deals' of the HRW event. They offer a 3-course lunch for $25 that comes with an appetizer, half pasta or sandwich, and a dessert. The restaurant plays great background music, has friendly service, and it is quiet enough to have conversation without being too quiet. Sicilian Beef Panino (sandwich) is my #1 item. I've ordered the sandwich both times I visited, and both times, I was more pleased with my choice than what my tablemates ordered. Of course, everything I've tried was delicious. This is a gem restaurant in Eado. The plaza looks a bit sketch and the restaurant is tucked away in the back, but inside is a really cozy restaurant with a great date night ambience and reasonable prices for great Italian food and ample parking. The service is "Italian" style, so it'll be at a very leisurely pace, and they warn you on the menu, but it didn't mean the server is inattentive; they just don't rush you to eat or order. They have a seasonal menu and daily specials. I really enjoyed the pizza and the whipped ricotta on this visit and will be back. read more

This was a bit of a drive for me but so worth it! It's a cute, cozy and homey restaurant tucked away in the plaza. Let me say that everything we ordered was delicious! Typically, Italian food tends to be heavy and very carb-y resulting in food coma. This place wasn't the case. The food was refreshing and light meaning it gave us the chance to try many different things without feeling uncomfortably stuffed! The ricotta appetizer with the bread was to DIE FOR! You can literally give me a tub of that and I would inhale it with bread haha Pasta was perfectly cooked and delicious! We had the mezzaluna and the paccharti (?). This stylish but casual Italian spot opened up earlier this year and is now open for dinner as well as lunch. The name is Italian for "mockingbird" and the team aspires to present traditional but off-the-beaten-path Italian fare. It can be a bit confusing to locate, as it is nestled inside Tlaquepaque Market, a large strip mall in Houston's East End neighborhood. The interior is homey and somehow industrial and rustic at the same time, with wooden furniture, sheer pink curtains, and framed paintings of forests and boats next to, somewhat strangely, a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. There is an inviting array of wine bottles on display behind a simple bar, but I couldn't resist the aperol spritz on the happy hour menu (5-6 daily!) which was very tasty. There's a short disclaimer on the menu that says something to the effect of "please let us know if you are in a hurry because we like to take things slow here," which is reflective of the soothing, laid-back culture of the restaurant. The atmospheric, lofi-like music contributes to this vibe as well. Happy hour features a lot of great deals on smaller ticket items, but the dinner menu is also quite reasonably priced. Most everything is shareable, but your server can point you towards the best options for a larger group. Here is my take on the spread: Corn and Zucchini Fritters - the clear standout on the happy hour menu. These were so good we ordered four (three pieces each). Each bite was uber crunchy with a delightful savory-sweetness, thanks to both the corn and a pool of honey. The shaved parmesan brought a salty nuttiness that complimented everything nicely. Crochette - three dense fried croquettes of potato and prosciutto with some arugula, parmesan, and a salsa verde. A nice contrast of textures and a pleasant salty and zesty flavor. Lamb Ribs - this $10 item off the happy hour menu, featuring two small lollipops, wasn't my favorite. The redundant salsa, arugula, parmesan combo was not as exciting the second time around, and the lamb was overcooked to a gummy gray. Olives - a tapenade-style appetizer of minced olive, garlic, and herbs topped with Italian parsley. I find olives funky normally, but this was quite quite mild, and I didn't mind it over the fresh toasted bread. Beef carpaccio - a beautiful arrangement of flat, thin raw beef topped with a bunch of flavorful goodies such as olive oil, pine nuts, charred onions, parsley, red chili flakes, and black pepper. Simple but well done and very shareable. Sweet potato - this roasted vegetable dish was a bit of a disappointment, because it sounds much more complex than it tasted. Mascarpone, sweet butter, feta, clover honey, toasted pumpkin seeds - compelling right? Unfortunately, the predominant flavor was caramel-like sweet potato and maybe a hint of salty cheese. Not bad, just a bit boring. Rigatoni - wide, bouncy pasta coated with a nutty, citrusy, and peppery pesto sauce. Simple but well done. Pesce - this poached snapper filet, served over toasted bread sogged in a rich tomato and turnip broth, was one of my favorite courses. The fish was delicate and juicy, and the tangy homestyle stew was straight out of the Italian countryside. Anatra - sliced duck breast over a porcini risotta and topped with sliced apricot. The risotto was the ideal consistency and carried a hearty umami flavor. I found the duck a bit chewy and closer to medium-well than medium-rare. I think more of a crust would have added some textural variety. Some hits and some misses food-wise, but overall a very enjoyable experience that served as a pleasant departure from the hustle and bustle of city life. One nitpicky aside: I like arugula and parsley as much as the next guy, but to have them as a topper on 9/10 dishes seemed a bit unimaginative - there are so many other green herbs to lean on for color and flavor! Nonetheless, excited to watch as this team fully settles into their new digs and continues to experiment and refine their product. read more

I came here for lunch with my partner and mother in law. The service here is impeccable. The wait staff was informative and friendly. The food was good! To start we had the zucchini and corn fritters. That was a table favorite! For the main, I had the pappardelle with shrimp. The shrimp was huge! The sauce was light and lovely but a little over salted. My partner had the fettuccine but when he tried mine he wish he would've gotten the pappardelle instead. For dessert my partner had the panna cotta which was delicious with a hint of citrus and honey. I had the biscottis and the espresso. The biscotti were my favorite. Came here on a Friday evening for dinner. It's in an inconspicuous area, so we had parked the car at the lot closer to the street and meandered on back to located the restaurant. It's charming and casual inside. There is a lot of unused space, which gives it an open feeling. I liked how the wines could be ordered by the half glass. I tried 4 different ones and enjoyed them all. For food, we opted for the prosciutto and melon, which was delightful. The duck main was also fantastic and quite a large portion. In an unassuming part of town and behind a shopping strip, lies this gem of a restaurant! We showed up in the middle of happy hour (5-6pm) and it wasn't full. Quickly sat down and waters were poured. Ordered an orange wine because why not but also half priced. Our waiter went through the menu since it was our first time and gave us his recommendations. We first had the fritters and sweet potato. The fritters were absolutely delicious and we fought over the last piece. The sweet potato appetizer was served with this herby house-made flatbread. We were worried about it being too sweet but it was the perfect balance of sweet, creamy and savory. For the mains we ordered the paccheri and polpette. The peccheri was recommended and I'm so glad we ordered it. I was wary of the castelvetrano olive pesto but it still stayed true to your traditional pesto with a briney salty addition. The polpette was were we strayed from the recs but these meatballs were so different than we were ever used to! There was bright acidity that made the meatballs feel light. The tomato sauce was had a spicy kick but the cheesy polenta helped sooth my mouth. For dessert we ordered the biscotti, which were not what we expecting. Not impressed. Made a reservation for a large group (10) during lunch. Upon taking drink orders, the waitress informed us that she didn't have enough of the lemonade for everyone that wanted to order it. There is a long waiting period until she took our food order. After she took our food order, the food came out at different times which was kind of awkward. So half the table was eating appetizers the other half was still waiting. There was some confusion once the main meals began coming out. One wrong order sat on the table during the entire meal. Food was not terribly exciting and pretty much bland. Was expecting to love this place after the rave reviews in the Chronicle, but we did not. Came in at 6:30 Saturday night and we're seated right away at our reservation time. I know it's 100 degrees outside, but the place was warm as was the red wine ordered which made the meal unpleasant and we couldn't drink much if the red wine ordered. Ordered the brut rose champagne and loved it paired with the prosciutto and the burrata starters. We were celebrating my wife's ringing the bell at MD Anderson for the end of her cancer treatment, and the best was the bubbly. Got the duck which we found to be too gamey for our taste and the shrimp spaghetti. Loved the shrimp, but told the waitress we didn't like the duck, we each had a bite, and my wife actually had trouble swallowing it. Would have liked to have had the duck removed from our bill or an offer of a celebratory dessert, but when the bill came, they charged us for our order and the wine of the couple next to us which we got removed. Again it was so uncomfortable that everyone around us was just as warm as we were, couldn't wait to get out of there.
