Great neighborhood bakery & cafe restaurant! I was looking for something different for office lunch when I stumbled upon Mimi's Plate. They are more of a dine-in place and NOT an efficient office lunch take out place because it took a long hold time on the phone to place the order for the office of 7 people. So be warned. When I went to pick up the food, place was buzzing with energy. They had nice case full of baked goods and staff all looked busy but energetic. I saw that there was a whole dining area to the left (doesn't look like it from outside!) that was PACKED with happy lunchers! The cashier let us know that they open Saturdays for amazing brunch, so I made a mental note to try. Onto the food... #7 Turkey sandwich (5/5, Main) - Delicious. Juicy, fresh-tasting turkey piled high and dense (like sando is HEAVY...) with cheddar, grilled onions and Russian dressing. Hello! Seriously packed that homey flavor but better. Crowdpleaser. #8 Turkey meatloaf w/ cheddar sandwich (3/5, Main) - My order because I'm a sucker for meatloaf. It turned out to be slightly dry but I suppose you can't make it too saucy if it's going on a sando. It also had nice heft but ended up being a bit too heavy and one-dimensional. #7 was better. Indian Red Lentil Soup (3/5, Side) - Something to wet our palate (literally). Homey flavor, but not a standout. We tried ordering one more time and office agreed that this place isn't good for office lunch because they had no online order and because they're too busy with customers, both time we had to wait like 10 minutes and then the person did not speak very well and just took a long time and a mistake in the order. But I'm sure that dine-in is going to be a different story! If you want a homey Russian-style cafe food from a passionate Russian lady chef, give this lovely neighborhood cafe a visit. My go to spot for home cooking. Always has fresh delights in the display or order from the kitchen for breakfast or lunch. I have several favorites omelettes, pancakes and and everything on the breakfast menu. The best Tuna ever whether you get it on a melt or over mixed greens never fails. Hi everyone.... I just wanted to share with you my delightful lunch I had today!! I went to Mimi's Plate with my friend and it was our 1st time there..... it was AWESOME!!!! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and we also took home goodies to have tonight or tomorrow . The staff was humorous, kind and extremely friendly. We dined in, and we felt human again..... a couple came in as we were finished but the tables are spread out regardless. Great 80's music playing and just a great vibe. With so many local businesses hurting, I just wanted to share my opinion!! They have weekly specials usually starting Wednesday's and Mimi's recipes will not disappoint!! Luckily, I only got the Thanksgiving desserts at Mimi's!! I got the worst pumpkin pie I ever saw or ate!! The flavorless 'pumpkin' filling was trowelled onto the hard disgusting crust, at about an 1/8th of an inch. Just as well, since the barely visible 'filling' tasted like nothing I've ever tasted before! The hard, uncuttable crust was about a half inch thick and like old, used cardboard ready for the recycling bin! I also, unfortunately, ordered an apple pie, which turned out to an apple crumb pie. Not what I ordered, but that was fine. Fine, that is, until I took a bite. The apples were dry and too tart with no sauce whatsoever with the same tasteless cardboard crust as the 'pumpkin pie'! I was willing to pay the outrageous price - $36 for the apple and $28 for the pumpkin pie because I have had desserts and other goods from MP before and everything always excelled! BTW I picked up a pack of chocolate chip cookies that were like eating sawdust with a sparse spattering of chocolate chips!! STRIKE 3!! I will never darken the door of MP again! So sad! What happened to this once fantastic purveyor of culinary delights!! read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but I have to do it in this case to help anyone considering visiting Mimi's Plate. This place is notoriously bad at deciding when they want to serve their customers. We knew this so at 3:40pm we called to make sure they were still serving food knowing they closed at 4:00pm. They said yes, so we we walked in at 3:45pm. They told us we were closing. We said yes we know, but we literally just called...also, it's not 4:00 yet. They conceded by gave us such a guilt trip about having to open up the kitchen again that we left. If you are going to run a business, honor your business hours. Be professional. I'll never visit again as I have no trust that food will be available. read more

I love this adorable little cozy place! I had never been here before so I wanted to check it out, the employees were so sweet. I asked what they recommend since I had no idea what to get, one whispered "number 7!" GAME CHANGER!! Mimi's has wonderful food. A true gem in Tappan! Her foods are gourmet, organic, fresh and tasty. Its not a sit down restaurant. Its more a order and take out place. However, she does have a small area if you want to sit and eat with a very small group. The curried chicken salad is awesome! There are daily soup, breakfast and lunch specials. There is always fresh baked biscuits, scones, cookies and sweet pound cakes. There are usually samples laid out to tempt you to taste. And once I taste, I usually buy. What she has in her counter display always changes, so there is always something new to whet your appitite. The down side is that Mimi's is rather pricy. As much fun as I have picking out my tasty treats, I always wince when the total rings up on the register. So as long as you are willing to pay for quality, you know what to expect, you will enjoy. I've lived in Tappan for almost my whole life and I'm always searching for a new food place in my area to try. I must admit, I didn't give Mimi's Plate a second look for a couple of years. There was just something about the tiny little shop set up in the tiny strip of continuously changing businesses. I didn't trust it. I'm happy to admit that I was wrong and silly for judging. Mimi's Plate is AMAZING! Once I walked in I felt comfortable, not intimidated as I usually feel going somewhere new. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and patient as I did not know what to order or where things were. She explained the daily specials and waited patiently while I decided what to try. I ordered an iced coffee and the Applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and herb mayo on multigrain bread sandwich. The decor is adorable, but tiny. There aren't tables inside to eat, but I think there are 2 set up outside the store. It's more of a take-out place. They offer a variety of mixed salads, grilled veggies, and daily specials behind the counter, as well as baked treats that advertise being baked daily, which they probably are. There were two types of dips out for you to try with small pieces of fresh, crunchy baguette. The dips I tried were a spinach dip and the hummus. So Good! My sandwich was delicious. Somehow it reminded me of very good sushi that I've had, even though there was no fish in my sandwich. Something about the herb mayo and avocado combination, with the crisp tomato and fresh crunchy lettuce, that transformed this average sounding sandwich to a whole other meal altogether. The bacon was crispy and was not greasy or chewy at all. It was a perfect BLAT. Also, they offer Truvia sugar, which I can never find at other coffee places around here. A++ Mimi's prides themselves on organic, local ingredients and fresh, tasty food. The service is friendly and comfortable, and it's food you can count on. I have never posted on Yelp before although I use it all the time. But my experience today at Mimi's made me compelled to do so. I have frequented this establishment many times before. The food is good and fresh although a bit pricey. I decided this morning to treat myself to breakfast from here on my way to work which I have never done before. I arrived at 8:15 am and although I was the only customer I found it hustling and bustling with activity in the kitchen. I ordered my sandwich and made my coffee. After about 5 mins the person who took my order said that they don't open until 8:30 so I would have to wait. I was flabbergasted and asked why the door was open if they were not. I got no response. This is unacceptable and rude customer service. I will never go to Mimi's again. read more

While visiting my Mother for ten days in rehab (in Rockleigh that only serves Kosher food), I went out searching for a place that had something special. WOW, did I find the place! I only wished there was a place like this in Silicon Valley. Every order was to go, and when I served it to my mother and visiting siblings, EVERYONE was pleasantly surprised. It's not often that you open "food to go" and think it's home made. I'm sure if I ate there, it would be just as good, if not better.
