Didn't expect a perfect cup of Joe here even with the 50 five star reviews. It's unassuming, non-pretentious and they have barebones in terms of food selection. You come here for the coffee and the maroon-colored vinyl seats are super comfy. They leave you alone and you can stay as long as you want. Looks like the older guy with the lavender polo shirt and suspenders talking to one of the customers is the owner. People wave to this guy as they enter and exit the shop. Having worked by the Saw Mill Pkwy in Dobbs Ferry didn't give me many eating options. So coming away from that area and further in to town in less than 10 minutes- was more than ideal. I remember getting a hankering for a cheese-less sandwich and thought coming to Caffelatte on Cedar St. would be a good idea. Don't mean anything wrong by it- but I got some stares, smirks even some sarcasm from the owner(?) when I asked for a Caprese sandwich without the cheese. My sandwich was piled high with fresh Arugula and tomatoes....and nothing else. And that's the Vegan version of a Caprese sandwich. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Listen- I give this place credit for using fresh greens, juicy and sweet tomatoes and that bread- was nice and crusty on the outside with that chewy inside- but the owner(?) really didn't think outside the triangle. Friendly service, limited pastries and the only reason for the 3 stars. Was the beverages were not hot enough. Latte was not steamy, i think they just frothed the mil rather than steaming it. Caffe Latte is a very cute and inviting little cafe in Dobbs Ferry. It was a welcomed oasis after a rum with my girlfriends on the Old Aqueduct Trail. They offer small sandwiches, hot and cold water beverages, gelato and some cozy seating inside as well as a few chairs and table outside the establishment. My friend and I both order the Iced Chai which was very tasty. The gentleman that helped us was very sweet and he gives every customer a mini biscotti with their order. Owner Basilio Colaizzi whips up cappuccinos and yes, lattes, with a complimentary piece of biscotti and a whole lot of heart. If you like your drink made w/a precise number of shots a la Starbucks or have less than 10 minutes to spare, skip this place and try well, Starbucks. Cafelatte is a place to relax. The ambiance is 1960s Italy--there's even a Vespa poster on the wall. The only negative is that the place can be a bit dirty. On my first visit, my table still had some crumbs on it after Basilio wiped it. There were also remnants of a dead plant by the window. The cappuccino is made with the best espresso beans, milk steamed to perfection & cinnamon just right by the owner Basilio. It's like a bit of Italy to be here in Dobbs Ferry. If you want all the choices of a chain coffee shop, don't go here. If you enjoy the taste of great espresso without frills, you have to try this place! The man behind the counter loves the connection with people. If you're open to it, he will be kind, friendly, and likely want to try to chat for a bit. The ambiance in the store reminds me of European cafes with an open feel, comfortable seating, and relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's not the same quality or service since Vasillio passed away. The new woman who runs it is strictly businesses. The amazing sandwiches Vassilio used to make have shrunk by 1/3 of the size. Also the thick slab of Mozzarella has been replaced by a razor thin sliver. Of course the price has not been lowered for the reduction of portions. Sometime I catch her eye, it's practically seething, like customers sit around to long and waste her time. Such a nice place I just had "brunch" there which turned into about three hours of just enjoying the atmosphere, the comfortable chairs and, or course, the delicious food. I would STRONGLY recommend the hot chocolate, I am pretty sure it is the best in the rivertowns. I've been in town working on a film shoot, and whenever I step in here, I feel like I am leaving all of my production stress behind for a few minutes. Oh yea... What a magical place to randomly stumble upon. On an offhand trip to Westchester for a basketball tournament we decided to grab a coffee/latte at a local spot. Caffelatte was close and we figured it would be the average run of the mill cafe - better than Starbucks/D&D. Before the door closed behind us, I realized we had entered a portal into a different dimension. I literally list my bearings and thought we were transported to a small hometown cafe in rural Italy. The barista is a pure gentleman and in prime form engaging the clientele in conversation as old family, and us newcomers as welcome as the regulars. 2 lattes regrettably to go. I only wish we didn't have to be somewhere else - as my wife said.. I would've spent all afternoon shooting the breeze with them. What a special place.
