Haven't been in a while had my daughter with me and we stopped for lunch. Ordered spinach artichoke dip which was good but it came out with raw French fries on the plate which the Manager brought to our table. We both ordered a salad mine was bacon blue cheese with chicken. Salad that arrived was a Mediterranean dish with dry chicken that I couldn't even eat. Our waitress said she made a mistake and picked up wrong salad. Didn't offer to correct nor did they take it off my bill. They were kind enough to take off appetizer. Mimi's has troubles. If it's not the food, it is the pitiful service. The food is also way over-priced for what it is and I usually end up feeling like i would have been happier to eat at home. Their menu changes constantly, so it is difficult to pinpoint items that work or don't work. The onion soup is consistently good and I always get it. Their bread basket with rolls and carrot raisin bread is terrific too but they never give enough butter for two, it's like they are rationing the butter. What is this? England after World War II? Do i need a ration coupon? Come on! The appetizers are usually fried things, they used to have these fried zucchini wedges that were pretty good, at least they seemed to be done fresh and not frozen. Many items taste frozen or pre-prepared in vacuum sealed bags. The flavor profiles are non-existent. Be prepared to season like you are at a seniors friendly cafeteria. No New Orlean's Frenchman would abide such bland food. Beware the quiche. I don't know how they cook it (I think they microwave it or something) but it comes out hot with a soggy bottom crust. it will eventually set-up and not be pliant but oh, it is not good. They don't blind-bake the crust which is essential for good quiche. The sandwiches are usually all right but the French Dip meat can be chewy and tough. If you want a sandwich go to Publix and get a sub made with Boars Head meats. Plus you will pay for it at Mimi's and the french fries are hideous. You are better off getting a different side option. The desserts are small in size and pricey, get a muffin instead, plus they are tastier. The salads are usually pretty good but who wants to go out to dinner and order a salad for that kind of money? I did have a really nice Chicken Cordon Bleu there a couple of times and of course it is no longer on the menu. Typical. Go right before the dinner rush or you will have to wait for some unknown reason (because it is Ocala, i guess, it cannot be because the food is so good) and then your service will not be as bad. If you go at prime time, good luck with the service. The breakfast's are good but not cheap. You might consider it as brunch. You might do better over-all with take-away. Or just go somewhere else to eat. This is like pretend French food. Buy yourself a French cookbook and cook at home. And the New Orlean's vibe is meaningless since there is not a single New Orlean's item on the menu which makes no sense whatsoever to me. read more

Yes, a mall/ based chain/retail but I thought it was done well. Creative decor in a New Orleans theme, clean and comfortable. Food was good: I had a grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, tomato sammie on ciabatta and others in my party had good looking and tasty lunches. Despite some unfavorable reviews, we decided to give it a try. We expected a wait, as we arrived around 7:15 pm on a Friday night, but found them to have plenty of open tables, and got right in. Service was fast, and friendly, and everything came quickly. We tried the calamari, and French onion soup. Both were good, not great, but had good seasoning and flavor, and reasonably priced. For our entrees I ordered the steak frites, and my husband ordered the roasted chicken frites. The steak was cooked a perfect medium, served with an herb butter, but wasn't seasoned enough for my palate, so had to add to it. While the chicken looked great, and upon first try of the wing, was well-seasoned, it was slightly undercooked. There was a hint of blood at the wing joint, which wasn't overly concerning, but the leg joint proved further underdone, and the meat still clearly in need of time (maybe 20 minutes) in the oven. The fries served with both were good, and the bread that came out first was also good. We sent the chicken back, and since we were full based on sharing the steak and apps, just had them take it off which they did with no questions. My friends came in from out of town, one is a vegetarian, two Like simple and plain food. My Husband and I like Most everything. I am allergic to shellfish.... That is one thing I have to be careful with. My Husband and I have been to Mimis Cafe in Tampa And Clearwater. We were appreciative that the staff Made to order. Had eaten at a Mimi's Cafe in Tampa a couple of times, so decided to pop into this one early on a Thursday night when I was in the Area for a dog show. Boy was I disappointed! First of all, the "hostess" took me to a small table in a corner of the large dining room, and if I had sat where she placed the menu...I literally would have been looking at a wall with my back to the rest of the room! Geez, I know I was by myself...but that does not warrant seating a single person off in a corner! The young man who waited on me was friendly and a good server. He brought my beverage and a basket of bread right away. I ordered one of their Entree size salads...and it was simply OK. Seriously, I've had a salad at McDonalds or Wendy's that had a better variety of veggies and it certainly didn't cost s much. The place began to fill-up before I left...mostly older couples and one young family. I've been there a couple of times. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. Service was good. Each time I had a BOGO with the purchase of two drinks. The breakfast (after the BOGO) still came out to over $20. The dinner came to $23. The food is OK, nothing to write home about. My wife and I can usually split a dinner but since we had a BOGO we each bought a dinner. We are glad we did because the portions were VERY small. I was still hungry! Without the BOGO our dinner would have been about $36. I don't mind spending $36 on a dinner for two, but I want to leave the restaurant satisfied and full. My husband and I often come to this place for breakfast or lunch and the food is always delicious and serve hot but today is the worse meal ever. We have never been disappointed coming here until today. My husband ordered a club sandwich which is really good actually as always. I ordered Grilled chicken with long grain rice and corn. The rice is served not hot and stiff. The top layer of the chicken which is the skin is crunchy and that is good but when you start eating the inside meat of the chicken to the bone, it's sour! I tried to doctor it up with chulula but it's still sour, I was thinking maybe because of chulula so I ask the waitress for tabasco, it gives me a kick of spiciness but the sour taste is still there. Finally, I guess my husband noticed why I spit some pieces of chicken and I am still eating very very slow. He ask me how is the chicken. First it was the wrong quiche but I was hungry so I decided to try it. It was lacking in seasoning and overall taste. Very bland. I also found the crust to be soggy and lacking in that buttery taste I expect However, the coffee was good and my companion's eggs Benedict looked good. First off, the rating should be 3.5 stars. I tried to distinguish between the wait staff and the rest of the restaurant. My daughter and I stopped in on a rainy day for dinner. My first impression is the same as another reviewed in that the decor was cute. Waiting time was tolerable at approx. 20 minutes but seating was a bit cramped at a table versus a booth. We both had the dinner and dessert combo. The food was good although a bit bland. We received bread and butter while we waited but drinks were few and far between. I did want to like the place more than I did but it will do in a pinch for dinner. Went for the first time at 5 pm Saturday night. Place was about 60% full when we got there. Filled up by the time we left almost 90 minutes later. The service was the worst we have had in a long time. The server was ok and friendly but it took almost 35 minutes to get appetizers and another 40 minutes to get the food. The food would have been good if it hadn't been cold by the time we got it. The desserts were the best part of the meal even with the ice cream being completely melted on the apple crisp. Has potential -- based on menu, location, pricing -- to be maybe a 4-star experience. However, total lack of consistency in service, starting with surly front-door attitude of hostess and including overly warm room temp, lower quality food prep and underwhelming managerial response when we were asked and noted these issues with our experience, probably means that we won't try again at least for a year. Frankly, I would have rather waited the 25-30 minutes to eat at Cracker Barrel (I know...Ugh! But my kids love it tho) for about 25% less cost. In summary, for us they weren't even the 3-star experience they currently are getting on Yelp despite a great menu and beautiful dining room facility. Stopped by for a "quick" dinner on Saturday night. Knowing that Mimis had just opened a couple of weeks ago - it didn't surprise me that there was a 1 hour waiting list. So - I just swaggered to the bar, sat down, ordered a drink and dinner - and ate at the bar. Sometimes - you will find the dining experience much better when you can talk to other patrons and the bar tender during diner. Ok - on to the food. I ordered their Fish & Chips. Don't know what kind of fish - but it was delicious. The cold slaw was "to die for". The french fries were cold and basically - who cares. All in all - a great dining experience. Good atmosphere and service. Excellent menu. Right now, they have four summer lunch specials that include soup or salad, full size entree, side and a drink for $9.99. My fiancé had the citrus asparagus and shrimp and loved it. I had the A1 BBQ burger - cooked perfectly but the sauce wasn't great. That's the only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars. For lunch and dinner, it's pretty good comfort food. Service is so-so at this location - most of the time it takes a while to get our order in, regardless of server. Make sure you ask for the raisen bread!! Yum! I would recommend Mimis more for breakfast, as long as you don't mind spending a big chunk of change!
