I love the way the place looks, prices were fair, and the service was good. My date had a salad with chicken breast and she loved it. I had pimento cheese and chips, grits, and biscuit and gravy. This is exactly what Waco has been missing, a great farm to table restaurant. Milo is the type of restaurant that proliferates foodie towns across the country, but has been sadly missing from Waco. Milo has a quality chef that creates delicious dishes from fresh, local ingredients. Everything that my wife and I tried (cocktails, brussel sprouts, pimento cheese, quail, bavette, and baked Alaska) was delicious. I had heard some mixed reviews prior to going, particularly from people expecting a brick and mortar version of the food truck. Please know, this is not an extension of the food truck. It is a completely different concept. If you come in expecting $8 biscuit sandwiches, you aren't going to find what you are looking for. This is a fine dining type menu in an upscale- casual atmosphere. The place is really nice with large and open dining with a huge garage opening that allows better ventilation and air to come in and out. It's a perfect place to go for brunch or for something to eat during the day. The appetizers are amazing. We had the Brussel sprouts, biscuits, and fries. I would have to say the Brussel sprouts are my favorite and definitely recommend to anyone who's trying this place out for the first time. My only feedback for the food would be what I ordered as the main entree which is Hot Chicken Tacos. The hot sauce to chicken ratio is not right in my opinion. The chicken is very large and not enough hot sauce. Plus the chow-chow was very overpowering. Lastly, I think the workers can be a little better on their COVID safety as I saw a kitchen worker with gloves on talking on his phone, as well as other kitchen staff not putting their mask up all the way. The other staff as well seem to have a mask fitting issue as I notice a lot of their mask kept falling down. Maybe some uniformed and fitting mask would help. read more

We were there just 2 weeks ago after a hot tour of Waco. We walked in at about 2:30 in the afternoon and the place was mostly empty. Not unexpected in the middle of the afternoon, they were well staffed and we were seated immediately. I had noted a burned odor as we walked in and mentioned to my husband "someone burned the bacon." Little did I know ....... We had attentive wait staff who got our drink orders right away and I was encouraged. They had plenty of staff who seemed busy sweeping and tidying up after what was probably a busy lunch rush, again I was impressed. Then it took a turn. Despite an almost empty restaurant we placed our order and waited, and waited, and...., well you get what I mean. Little did I know they were taking their time burning things. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich - cheddar with goat cheese and peaches on brioche. I loved all the ingredients and thought I might like this pairing but it was just ...off. The goat cheese didn't work in this application at all. Also, you know it....the lovely brioche bread was burned! And the chef decided to put that plate out. I could only eat 1/3 of it, and when the waitress took my plate away, I wondered if she would ask if I had not liked it. Nope. no mention of why this new menu item was rejected. My husband got a farmer's breakfast with eggs, sausage, potatoes and a biscuit. His scrambled eggs were cooked to rubber and his sausage patty was so burnt that it was inedible. However My wife had the Hot chicken and loved it. Atmosphere is excellent and I love the concept but the menu needs some work... also no kids menu... I was so excited to support a local business. To say I had a terrible experience was an understatement ! After being seated my party sat at the table for 30 minutes before a server came. The server asked if we wanted drinks, we said yes, water. The server said ok and disappeared and never returned. The four of us left the restaurant! I can not rate the food, as I never had any. Corey and his team are really winning with the atmosphere and aesthetic of the restaurant and it's gorgeous. But as a restaurant there are some kinks to be worked out. At our most recent visit we were seated promptly (yay!) but it was a full 7 minutes before a server acknowledged us after being seated. When our server did come he asked for our drink order and my husband asked "What Brotherwell do you have on tap tonight?" Server replied, "It says it on the menu." To which my husband had to reply, "The menu actually says to ask my server." Then they ended up being out of that brewery's beer altogether. After we'd placed our drink orders another server came and introduced himself to us and said he'd be our server. When we told him we already had one he said something about not realizing we'd already been taken. This tells us they're not running zones with tables - which means no one is actively paying attention to designated tables. This explained why it took so long to be acknowledged by a server in the first place. When we ordered an appetizer they were already out of what ordered and we were there just thirty minutes after dinner service had begun. My husband's entree was perfectly cooked and delicious. I ordered my steak medium but it came to me well done and cold, as though it had been sitting for a while before it was brought to the table. The plus - the cocktails were fantastic so it'll stay in my happy hour rotation. But probably won't go back for dinner until they've had more time to work out some issues. read more

My Wife and I had dinner here tonight, and while it's at the upper end of the pay scale for Waco, it stacks up OK with Dallas and Austin. -1 star for the awful round 2-top tables hanging off a bench. I'm OK with innovative seating, but not at the expense of being able to have beverages and entrees on the table at the same time without fearing knocking them everywhere. Were it not for that, this would be a 3.8/5 for me, certainly one of the best places I've eaten in Waco in the 8 years we've lived here. The crispy brussels app was good but small for the price and could've used another 30 seconds in the pan or a longer brine, they lost their crispness quickly. Good spice blend, seasoning was a bit much, especially in contrast with the rest of the savory dishes lack thereof. Pork belly app was cooked well, but under-seasoned and under-sauced, not quite doing justice to the quality of the cut. Again, perfectly cooked, can't fault the front kitchen there at all, I watched them the whole night, with the seating the way it is. Excellent watermelon radishes, though, kudos to the grower and whomever is selecting produce, not too spicy and not bland. For my main, I ordered the bone-in pork chop, which came a solid medium rare w/ a good sear. Fairly minimal spice, seasoning was again light. The cut was fairly mediocre, to be honest, you would do well to find a better source of pork for this, as it's where most of the flavor comes from in a chop. My Wife had the shrimp and grits, 8-10 shrimp w/ tails on, which doesn't bother me, but she wasn't happy with having to pull them for fear of the deep red (and deeply delicious) sauce getting on clothing. Grits were lukewarm, but cooked well, not too mushy. She was overall satisfied, but noted a slight lack of seasoning. I thought it was acceptable. Sauce, as mentioned, was great with a good balance of heat, richness, and umami. We each got a dessert, which I'd have to say, was the high point. I ordered the olive oil cake, which is a dense cake usually made with semolina. The texture of Milo's cake was more traditional cake crumb than the times I've made it, solid citrus flavor in the cake from the Gran Marnier, although it was giving me more of a lemon vibe, and a nice strawberry puree, mandarin wedges(or some such citrus), and a dollop of whipped cream in a very nice plating. My Wife selected the chevre cheesecake, which value wise, was amazing, huge portion for $9. The more important part is that if you like plain cheesecake, you will thoroughly enjoy this dessert. Super creamy, super rich, not too sweet, not too goat-heavy. The pistachio flavor was mild in the crust, but it was a nice textural foil. It was plated with a blackberry compote, I think. It was good but if you're a sweet cheesecake smothered in strawberry sauce kind of person, you won't like it. Personally, I won't order cheesecake that has anything in or on it, so I absolutely give this massive cheesecake two thumbs up and a clean plate. I had a Gin & 12-spice tonic, which was a nice twist on the classic, I would characterize it as a G&T with angostura bitters to get you in the ballpark, but it's Milo's house blend. Barkeep was competent and attentive and clearly cared about his drinks. I ordered a house Manhattan with the pork chop, a finely crafted cocktail. very traditional, but the spiced brandied cherry was an unexpected bit of flavor and really lent something extra to the drink. My wife ordered a pear flavored bourbon drink that at this time I don't remember the name of. The overall effect was that of a glass of perry (pear cider) with a bourbon float, and I can't complain about that. To the Milo folks: Fix the tables. We weren't the only ones not-so-subtly poking fun at the odd seating arrangements and while we were eating dessert, one couple asked to sit outside because the table was too small. Fix the seasoning. I saw a lot of the seasoning being applied during garnish by the GM or the expediter and it's just not cutting it for consistency. Expediter was doing a good job with communicating with the front kitchen, though! Fix the pricing. I spent $130 plus tip for two people for what would be a $90 meal in Dallas. I was happy to pay it once, but I wouldn't be happy to pay it again. I'm super excited that real food has made it to Waco, but I feel like as little as I go out, I'm still likely to drive to Dallas to go eat. On the flip side, I don't know that the market is there for $100+ casual dining for two in Waco yet. Maybe I'm wrong. Tweak some recipes. You've got some solid cooks, good ideas, it's just missing a little something. Keep up the good stuff! Bartender, front kitchen, pastry chef, expediter you're all doing it right! read more

Came here for breakfast and had a good time! They are so quick and efficient here. As soon as someone leaves the table, they quickly get to work clearing the table and cleaning it and have someone else sitting there within minutes. The food and drinks were delicious! The food here is unique, but really good! I got the brunch burger and even though you wouldn't think it beans on the burger with a tortilla chip was an amazing combination. I would have given this place 5 stars, however the wait time was awful and no one could give us a straight answer of what our wait time was (we waited about an hour for a table). Not only that multiple people kept coming in and getting seated while we waited and there were multiple tables open. We even asked to be seated outside since there were people out there and 2 tables available. The wait time was for both inside and out apparently. To make matters worse we ordered Bellini's that didn't come out till after we got our food (20 min or so) because all the containers were "dirty". Overall the food is great the employees just need better organization. We were from out of town so I would warn they have different menu's different days of the week that are not on their website. read more

My wife and I travelled from Fort Worth to Waco to see those people on tv and to try some of their baked goods, but to our delight we found something so much better just around the corner. An adorable place that will keep us coming back to Waco many times! As soon as we walked in the door, we were immediately hit with the intoxicating smell of their delicious, baked-from-scratch biscuits. From there, we were greeted by friendly staff and welcomed by the sleek, modern-but-still-country design that includes a full view of the open-concept kitchen. I ordered the Hot Chicken sandwich and my wife had the Sic'em on a Chicken sandwich. Hers came on a biscuit bun (I was jealous) with country fried potatoes and mine on a white bun with french fries. The chicken breasts were massive, crispy, and the juiciest I have had in a long time. We asked the Chef how he worked such magic, who said he brines all his chicken in sweet tea (and other things he wouldn't disclose). It's hard to find a restaurant that knows how to cook comfort foods the right way and actually does it. We were blown away with the food at Milo. Everything was very fresh and absolutely delicious. We came in to town to do the Magnolia experience and hadn't been blown away with any of our food so far. The decor is great. The food is most definitely not. The chicken was way over-cooked, tough as leather and lukewarm. The side of cabbage was completely under-cooked, poorly seasoned and cold. My wife had the salmon over grits. The salmon was so over cooked, it crumbled. The grits were lukewarm and had zero seasoning. To their credit, the waitress didn't charge us for the salmon. But unfortunately, the best part of the meal was the wine. Honestly, if you want to have a drink or cocktail, I think this place is fine, but avoid the food at all costs - McDonald's will serve you better on that front! read more
