What a cool spot! Don't sleep on this gem in Waco. As soon as we came in we were greeted by two of the friendliest bartenders I've ever met--Nikki & Ken! The vibe is great, good mix of locals and out of towners. They have a partnership with Morosco next door so you can order the full menu to be brought over. Pro tip: their sangria is hot freaking fire. It's almost TOO easy to drink. When you need to hydrate, the water is double filtered. Also perfect for a drop or three in your whiskey if that's your thing. In short: good booze, good food, good company. You literally can't go wrong coming here. read more

Hemingway's is a cute little bar in downtown Waco located across the street from the city's performing arts centers. After attending a concert recently and being unable to order an Uber or Lyft after the show due to over-demand, my friend and I decided to walk to the nearest bar to pass the time until the crowd died down. And this is how we found ourselves in Hemingways, a cozy, hole-in-the-wall, no frills neighborhood bar. The bar contains an outdoor seating area and the interior is super tiny with about 10 seats at the bar and three or so high tops in the space. We weren't the only ones who had the bright idea to wait out the uber back-up and the place was packed for the first 20 minutes we arrived. The solo bartender, Woody, had his hands full and kept apologizing to my friend and I for the delay as he prepared drink after drink. When he finally had a moment to take our drink orders he whipped them out in no time (and really the wait wasn't terrible and we could see he was slammed so no apology was needed.) Despite the rush of the crowd, Woody did an amazing job getting everyone's orders out promptly and taking time to speak to every customer in the room. To top it all off, to apologize for the wait (again-wasn't even really a wait) once the bar had died downhe sent us two complimentary whiskey shots as thanks for our patience-the type of customer service that keeps people coming back. Hemingway's was by no means a fancy place with frou-frou craft cocktails, but if you're looking for a chill, relaxed environment with good service and good people give it a try. If you're looking for a small hole in the wall bar this is definitely your place to be. No drama, everyone is super laid back and friendly. I absolutely adored my bartender Jen she is such a sweet beautiful soul and knows how to keep the entire bar laughing! Her famous Peach Martini is a must try. It's not a craft cocktail bar by any means. I feel that the bartender knowledge/ know how is at a good level. They have amaretto, campari, half and half. It's a small bar but cozy. I'll also say it's gotten a new lease on life with a pizza place so close. I haven't been to this bar many times even when I resided in Waco because it's not by many other bars and the area is more residential. read more

We didn't stay long. Just enough time for 1 drink. The bartender was sweet and attentive. The decor and overall theme could really use a facelift. But the drinks were great. I love this bar *toby Keith style* But for real, this is the lowest key, best service bar you'll ever find in Waco Texas. When I say low key I mean like less than 30 people can fit in the place. But when you walk in, you're automatically greeted by Nikki or woody and they are the greatest. They make you feel at home and welcome. The regulars are nice too and talk to you like your family. No food, just an amazing beer list and liquor out the wazoo. Woody will make you anything you damn please, and it'll be amazing at that. Win win in my book. We originally found this place when we went to morosos pizza and there was an hour wait. They were accommodating and so beyond friendly we keep coming back. Can't wait to continue the good convos. My friend and I were actually waiting for a table to free up next door at Moroso's, so we sat down at one of the tables in the cute area outside not knowing that the space belonged to Hemingway's. We realized pretty quickly because a waiter, Woody, was at our table within 2 minutes of us sitting down. He said he didn't have a cocktail menu but could make us anything we wanted. I opted to order a peach bellini from their wine menu and was sooo happy that I did because it was delicious and beautiful all at the same time. It was a little over $7, which is a great deal if we're measuring by how good I felt afterward! read more

Tiny, laid-back, no-frills bar (maximum occupancy 25!) that generally has a crowd that could be best described as "eclectic". Totally different from anything downtown. The main bartender Nikki is very outgoing (treats you like a guest in her home), pours them strong, and constantly creates drinks on the fly. Definitely go with a regular the first time, and you'll fit right in by about the third visit. This bar is in the middle of a quaint little shopping center and there are frequently several people sitting outside with a guitar. They always have Sirius 80s or 90s playing which is a bonus. Word of advice... if you're hungry, stop somewhere on Valley Mills and eat beforehand... unless you really like Cheez Balls and pretzels. It's a shame the bowling alley next door closed... not only could you grab food there if you needed it, drunken Red Rover between the two was a fun, quirky way to spend a Saturday night. read more

Hemingway's is hands down the best bar to go to in Waco. The laid back atmosphere paired with the always eclectic crowd makes it a great choice for anyone. The bartenders are always friendly, and the regulars are, too! They often have live local and touring bands, and the talent is consistently good. This place is a conundrum. It's out of the way, and very small. Bit of an older crowd, but there are also the occasional rowdy individuals (both the good and bad kinds of rowdy). There are definately a lot of regulars that can make you feel a bit out of placethough. However the partenders are always quite nice. Also, they have a heavy hand that is quite affordable. This is the best place to get a drink in Waco, and I emphasize "drink." The beer selection is ok, if you're a beer drinker. But if you're a whisky or gin drinker like me, there's really nowhere else pleasant to go in Waco but here. The only downside is the weak pour I often get. C'est la vie. This is also the least pretentious, most chill, and friendliest place to go out in town. read more
