I've enjoyed coming here over the years! From coffee dates to study sessions to my first drink with friends on my 21st bday, I've had some great memories here! Some of their speciality lattes (like the Remember Me one fall) have been so delicious that I've braved the trek downtown, searching for a parking spot in the middle of my workday, just to get one as an afternoon pick-me-up. I also love the 1885 drink, which is Dr Pepper + espresso. It sounds crazy, but a Waco girl loves it. I will say, ever since the inside was re-painted as a weird, tentacle-esque, purple and orange mural, the ambiance has tanked. It used to feel like a peaceful, vibey spot, especially at night or during the holidays. Now the walls make my skin crawl a bit. I just want something to WAKE me up! Not all coffee is the same. If you're looking for a roast tasting coffee you can find it here! I ordered the Boxing Day coffee with the cinnamon notes. I couldn't taste cinnamon so much til I was almost done. It's good coffee, but nothing special even with the descriptive notes for their drinks. It feels industrial inside. Nice bathrooms, spacious layout towards the back. Comfortable seatings and plenty of tables. read more

It's a cafe and a bar, hence the Dichotomy moniker. We stopped by for some cold drinks on a hot Texas afternoon. Is there any other kind of Texas day, you may ask? Well, when there's a heat wave, it's in a caliber all its own. So I was definitely longing for a cold drink and the sparkling lavender lemonade delivered! Served in a tall "to-go" cup with a mint sprig, that extra care was much appreciated. The flowery lavender taste just kissed the palate lightly and lingered aromatically. The fizzy tinge of the sparkling lemonade quenched my thirst. We took a moment to check out the rooftop seating area but didn't stay too long as it was a hot day but I can only imagine how nice it would be to enjoy the deck on a chilly autumn afternoon! As a huge iced latte fanatic, I have spent the last two years on a mission to find coffee shops that house-make their syrups, this shop was one of very few I have found that actually do this all but the mocha.. So of course , I made a point to go out of my way to visit when driving through Waco and they absolutely did not disappoint. I ordered an iced latte with honey and vanilla, and as someone who doesn't like their espresso too strong, I asked for one of the shots on the side (which I highly recommend if you don't like your drinks too strong - I'm so glad I did as with just one shot, it was perfect without being overpowering. The latte was Full of flavor the espresso was smooth, and had just the right amount of sweetness from the housemade syrups another reason I like is they are not over sweet ! We also tried the 1881 drink animal style (Dr. Pepper espresso and half & half), and it was surprisingly amazing, a taste I had not ever experienced Very creative and a nice change from the norm. There are so many coffee spots in Waco but I knew this was the one and I was not wrong. Beautiful building in downtown area that I was able to walk to from my hotel. Amazing coffee menu that made it hard to pick but I went with a Cortado with house made honey syrup (half sweet of course to enjoy the coffee flavor). When I tell you that I inhaled it - whew it was SO good. Exactly what you want from a coffee shop. It's also a bar in evenings and beautiful inside. The upstairs patio was nice. Lots of seating areas. We arrived at 8 pm on a rare warm November evening and were by ourselves for a bit. We just sat and listened to all the activity going by below. Service was slow. I waited for three bartenders to finish telling stories before co.ing over to take my order. It took equally as long to cash out the tab. Indoor area is nice. Tables were dirty but we sat outside. There is a small patio on the front of the place by the front door as well. It had a good vibe just need more aware of your customer bartenders. read more

This is a gorgeous venue. Did you know a local TX gal for all of the walls custom?! They shut down for a month to create this beauty. I was greeted by Lee (who also recommended the farmer's market which was a hit) and had an oat latte which was made to perfection by Steph. Came here for a coffee before a meeting and this spot is so cute! Pretty big location for a coffee shop which is always nice since they had a good amount of seating. I got a white mocha latte and it was super good. They even make their syrups in house here! Only critique is that my latte somehow wasn't super hot, just pretty warm. I got the Sweater Weather less sweet, and it was good. $7+ is a little steep (esp for a store bought chai concentrate) but that's the norm for coffee shops apparently. And they have a large assortment of local loose leaf tea, so I'm disappointed that they would cut corners on chai. The coffee cake muffin was very good! We visited Dichotomy on a Friday night to try some of their cocktails. It was lively without feeling too busy or crowded. Their bartenders and staff were friendly and attentive. We had several cocktails, with the Frai D'été being my favorite and the Dichotomy old fashioned being my husband's favorite. Wandered here while visiting Silobration weekend looking for some great coffee. I ordered their drip coffee (black.) It was their Nicaraugan coffee and it was pretty bitter with a sour aftertaste. I ended up adding a little half & half and a pinch of sweetener, but I still did not like it. I was not a fan. Husband ordered their vanilla latte and while it was a beautiful sight, it was just lacking in a full flavor. Service was OK, nothing too warm or inviting. It is a beautiful coffee shop with beautiful decor and lovely painted art on the walls. Not sure I would return though. read more

This coffee house is outrageously gorgeous. Maybe the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Love that they have all the bikes hanging around. If we lived closer I would be a permanent fixture here, it's really that cool. The best part, they make incredible cappuccinos with love. Great espresso also. This coffee shop is one of my favorite places in all of Waco. Not only is it modern, and has great drinks, but the vibe is immaculate. On Saturdays, I would look forward to going to the farmers market nearby and then heading to Dichotomy for a treat. In the photo, I had the cappuccino which was tasty, but typically I go for the honey lavender latte. It is a great combination of not too sweet, but sweet coffee that hits the spot. My favorite part of dichotomy is the rooftop. Wi-Fi is accessible from the rooftop and has a killer view of the downtown courthouse. My only critique is that the tables are very small and can be challenging to find during peak Baylor University study weekends. read more

I had a hemp milk latte- they didn't have Almond milk. It was delicious and the espresso beans were fruity and distinctive. The hemp was similar to oatmilk. It wasn't bad at all. I think it's pricy for the size. It came to 6.5 or something. I travel for work and get my morning latte from caffès in downtown areas all the time and I think this was a little too pricy. Overall I enjoyed my coffee and might be back for convenience when I'm in town again. The service was pleasant but I ended up waiting I want to say about 15 min from ordering till I left. read more

Well, what can I say the Dichotomy Coffee. Let's start by I drink their coffee usually black. A little bit cream a cup of sweeteners and I really really enjoy that they make a good café latte as well. If you're looking to buy coffee, they have ground up coffee too either bean or ground. Coffee shops, downtown off of 508 Austin Ave., Waco, TX 76701. They also offer spirit which I hear is quite nice and they use local ingredients for their different mixtures. They are a good coffee shop next to a bar, hence the dichotomy. The scone was doughy. Most of the scones I've had in Texas are doughy, so maybe that's their thing. This is the first time I tried it though have been here several times for cappuccinos. The espresso is good. read more

Cool place in downtown Waco. It's coffee in the morning and during the day but transitions to a bar in the evening. Cool concept. I went for coffee. Overall it was just meh. The space is a cool, traditional coffee house setting, chairs tables, with a retro style and feel. I walked in and there were a couple people on a Sunday morning but definitely not busy. There were two young ladies working and it wasn't immediately clear where you order...I was expecting a counter of bakery items or something to eat and there wasn't any display at the counter. I was also not greeted ...until I looked around, clearly a bit lost...and one lady said she'd be right with me...there was no one at the counter but I guess both were preparing drinks. I looked behind me and did find a refrigerator with a couple bakery items...not a great display...think convenience store set up. But I grabbed a kolache and cinnamon roll. I took the items to the counter and ordered a coffee...and requested the items be heated up....it wasn't clear that they'd automatically do it....and communication from the young lady was bare minimum. The lady taking my order had to ask for my drink order twice...coffee...and she asked me to repeat it like I was speaking another language. But whatever. I sat down and waited...I get that they were preparing the fancy drinks but in all other coffee shops they usually pour a cup of plain coffee immediately...it's a cup of coffee...It would have satisfied me while I waited for them to heat up my items. I admit I didn't time it but it was longer than 5 minutes and less than 10....but again 6 minutes to pour coffee and throw items in a microwave...seemed off to me for the small crowd. The coffee was ok, nothing amazing...it wasn't clear where they sourced the coffee. The bakery items were fine. While I consumed my items...I noticed the two staff were very quiet...other than calling the drinks out...no real greetings to customers, not even chatting between each other. Essentially this was an ok coffee place...perhaps it's better as a bar....or maybe this was a slightly off day for staff. I wouldn't avoid it but the vibe could be better...it's a coffee shop...we could all easily get coffee at home or at a drive through...we come for the vibe...and the vibe was missing in this place. read more

this is a really cool coffee shop right in the heart of downtown. We stopped by early Sunday morning, as we were making our way to DFW. It's a little ways off 35 but not too far especially if you're traveling up or down the corridor. inside, the space is really welcoming and clearly designed for some working or lounging. My husband really enjoyed their drip and their London fog was decent. My biggest complaint is those dang coffee lids. every time I pick up my drink to take a sip it was literally drip all over me. The MOST aesthetically pleasing coffee and Bar ever. It's a vibe. Had to look up the def of dichotomy. It's perfect. They'll fill your personal cup if you bring one. Very small issue of no TP in the bathrooms and you think the bathroom is clean until you look up. read more
