The Woodway branch of this Waco coffee vendor is everything you'd want in a local coffee shop. There's a drive-thru for patrons on the go, but there's also plenty of room inside. With Slow Rise housed in the same building, you needn't look far to find food to go with your drink. Common Grounds' menu is surprisingly deep and varied. You can get a classic drip coffee or espresso drink here, take on a fun flavor from one of the house specialties, or go with a multi-shot selection from the Sleep is Overrated section if you need an extra pick-me-up. Common Grounds' calling card is a housemade "Secret Sauce" syrup (spoiler alert: you can buy it by the bottle and ingredients are listed if you're curious) and the Cowboy Coffee concoctions that feature it. If that isn't enough, there's also a rotating seasonal menu. Fortunately, the staff here are patient while you make up your mind, and they'll promptly prep whatever you order. I ended up getting an iced Caramel Coffee Crunch: a latte with caramel and Secret Sauce. It was rather sweet (owing to the aforementioned sauce), but on a hot day when I was somewhat frazzled, it was exactly what I needed. Were I a local, I could see making Common Grounds a regular stop. Common Grounds Coffee Shop is not the stand alone coffee shop I expected to drive up to. The coffee shop is located in a food court that includes an ice cream shop and a pizza spot. On the coffee shop menu it lists flavor options and sizes but not one single price for any of their offerings. I selected a small Caramel Crunch. It's available as a hot coffee, iced or frozen. I chose a hot coffee, small size and it was $5.50 after tax. Who's to say if iced or frozen or the same price or not. The flavor I chose was really good to me. It's a great space but coffee is lack luster. Menu is vast and a bit pricey considering the quality. There is lots of room to study or hangout but parking was a bit challenging. Staff was helpful and kind. I got a s'more latte and it was overly sweet and not smooth. I really just didn't enjoy it at all and it was the espresso not the sweetness. This new location is great. They have a drive-thru that is always busy. Inside is a comfortable space and there is room in the place next door to sit as well. The coffee is done very well I had espresso which comes with sparkling water to clean your palate. Great service, small food selection but it is a coffee shop, not a restaurant. read more

Currently here right now trying to get work done and it's been increasingly harder to focus. Which is surprising considering I used to come here a lot in high school and it was actually a fairly nice and quiet place to study in. Not trying to be a Karen when I say this but there are two different sides, the CG side and the slow rise side, and I don't know if these kids could be louder than they are right now on the CG side. It's mid afternoon, not too many people on the Slow Rise side, and a lot of people on the CG side. Maybe I'm being a Karen but I remember when they would get onto people for being too loud on the CG side that is generally used as a quieter space of the business. I guess now they don't care anymore? Idk it would be nice to maybe be able to do work without kids yelling in the background. Feels like the Richland mall the way these parents just drop their kids off on the CG side and hit the bar on the Slow rise side. read more

Some of the best coffee in Waco/ Woodway! Drip coffee is amazing and espresso is solid. Never had a bad experience with anyone. Workers are nice and make you up coffee well! Inside is quiet enough to study/ work or talk and catch up. Early crowd is definitely quieter but it livens up as the day goes on. Not a whole bunch of seating but a decent amount of 2 person tables, a couple 4 person, and 2 bigger tables. I have a nostalgic relationship with Common Grounds. As a Baylor alumni, I spent hours at the original location studying and sipping on a hot no-bull. The Woodway location is the complete opposite. The coffee is meh and the service is just as lukewarm as the "hot" coffee. You can ask for extra hot - but it's always served room temperature. It's amazingly convenient, plenty of parking, and great energy - just sad that a simple request is never fulfilled. Come for iced or go somewhere else. read more

While trying to give my drink order I was rushed so he didn't hear all of the modifications I wanted to make for my tea. When I arrived at the window to get my drink, it was completely incorrect. I ordered a hot white fang(A TEA) and they gave me a random iced beverage. So when I said I wanted it hot, they went back inside and prepared another drink. Mistakes happen, so I didn't mind. Updating review to reflect the lack of customer service here. I haven't been back here in a year because of the customer service. The staff always seems annoyed and are hardly ever personable. However, the location is cool and I like the concept of them sharing their building with a bar and pizza place. I would recommend this place if you're going to get pizza or sitting out at the patio but I don't recommend going to Common Grounds. read more

Glory hallelujah! Did you see the outdoor seating and play area? It entertained my 5 kids ages 1-12, which is amazing that all were satisfied. If we were local, enjoying a cup of coffee while the kids were contained and burning energy would be a regular thing. Staff was very friendly. They use Monin syrups, but do have milk alternatives including oat. I have tried a hot honey latte with oat milk and iced honey latte with whole milk and both were good. The milk was steamed well. The only thing I would improve would be adding house made syrups. There is plenty of seating inside as well, with free wifi if you have work to do. It would be a great meeting or homework spot. It shares a building with Slow Rise Pizza, so if you get hungry you're in luck! read more

I AM SO DONE! I have given them SO MANY chances to reply to my concerns, complaints, feedbacks...NOT ONCE did they! I've officially gone on strike, I will not go back until they improve their customer service and management. I have tried reaching out to the store several times in various ways (email, social media, website contact form). I have to say I'm disappointed at their lack (or should I say none) of service. Not once have I heard from them. They do not reply to any of emails and messages. Not even acknowledge them. This is my last email to them dated October 31st. Hello, I love Common Grounds in Woodway and I wouldn't dream of ceasing to come back regularly. However I am frustrated by lack of response through social media, Facebook messenger or even email. Not once have they ever responded... I also have noticed that from time to time, they would run out of things. Doesn't seem well run with well stocked and equipped. I once caught a barista sit on the espresso machine counter. This is Unacceptable behavior by the barista. I also have issues with two things that does NOT work anymore. It worked ONCE. Text COWBOY for deals and requesting receipt through text. They both worked only once and never worked again. Unfortunately I have decided not to go back until they improve their customer service. Saturdays and Sundays Common Grounds brings in three different kinds of breakfast burritos (Sausage, egg, & cheese / Bacon, egg, & cheese / Avocado, potato, cheese, egg). Every single one is fantastic. They are not so big that you are stuffed, but they are perfect for a quick and easy weekend breakfast bite with coffee (not that I haven't devoured 3 in a sitting though ;)! ). I would also recommend coming here to study since there is free wifi, and a ton of space for study groups or tables big enough for one to sprawl out and read/study/write. The atmosphere is never too loud, and everyone is very respectful of one another which is so nice. There are couches, a padded bench that stretches four tables, and lots of other comfy rustic style seating options including a fantastic bar area. The coffee is absolutely the show stopper, and I highly recommend the "No Bull" (and try it with almond milk). They have plenty of add in options such as almond milk, soy, and can outpace any other coffee joint for expertly poured shots. Their coffee is never scorched, and I have personally watched them toss shots if they are not up to their standards. I highly appreciate this, since it is up to the barista to make sure the quality is there every time. The staff is amazingly friendly and attentive. When you have finished dinner, lunch, or just your afternoon coffee run don't forget about dessert! They have a cold case with some of the most outstanding options. The raspberry cookie tart (not the official name) was stunning. *****Bottom Line**** You've been searching, but now you have found the best coffee in town along with a place to relax. I love the coffee- it is my first time here. It is a bit hidden, just happened to be driving by and saw it. I am sure they are relying on word of mouth. If you never been and live near Woodway/Hewitt, come by and check them out. They have two sizes - small and large. We bought two larges, one mocha and one latte. My mocha was not too sweet and they didn't pile the whipped cream. They have an outdoor play center - faux grass - for kids to play on. They are very friendly, and they also have pizza across the building - so technically I guess it is a pizza coffee house....or a coffee pizza house...hmmm. This is a proper coffee shop. I've lived in Waco for about 2 years now(coming from San Diego where good coffee shops are the norm). Native Sons is what Waco needs. My three 'criteria' for a good coffee shop: 1. Quality coffee and knowledgeable/friendly baristas. 2. Space is comfortable and feels good to be in / has different seating options (post up for awhile or just casually stop in). 3. Wifi is fast and strong.
