Very cute cafe! They were close to closing and were still willing to quickly accommodate us for sandwiches when we were starving and everything else was closing. Went there today for la few weeks ago. We were seated right away. The place is nice. There was plenty of wait staff and nobody was standing around. Waiter/waitress were all very nice. It took 45 minutes ( not embellishing) for the food to arrive and the place was not full. A table that walked in 10 minutes after us got their meal before us. I had the steak sandwich. Not edible. Could not cut the meat with a knife. My wife had the Cuban. The pork was chewey. Not good. The ice tea was tremendous. Instead of telling the truth, (that the kitchen is not functioning properly) the waiter came up with some lame excuse as to why our meals were prepared after another table. When he asked how the meal was I told him. He said "OK " but did not offer to remove it from the bill or replace it. The lady at the cash register said there were problems with the kitchen. The Millside Cafe is set by a babbling brook, is old country, homey, and surrounded by Antique shops. It was the perfect place to sit outside on the beautiful fall day we had this past weekend. To keep us warm we ordered hot apple cider, which was perfect for the atmosphere. We got the Bruschetta appetizer to share. I don't like tomatoes and I couldn't pass it up -- it was amazing. For lunch, I got the Cajun Roast Beef Wrap. It came with a pickle, chips, and small salad. Everything was delicious and the waitress was great. With the exception of the one younger server, the owner, host, staff were unbelievably rude bordering on aggressive. They were short staffed, which we understood. We didn't complain about the wait, but you can't treat customers like this. Every single interaction was tense and rude, almost nasty. The worst and weirdest below: Our daughters (2 & 5) stayed in their seats, coloring on the napkins and stacking the jelly containers. Apparently this bothered the hostess to the extent that she came over (without saying a word to us) and took away the silverware, napkins, and restacked the jellies. We hadn't even gotten our food yet. When we went to leave my wife and daughter went to use the restroom. They were waiting outside the door in a narrow hallway. They moved into an open doorway to get out of the way of the staff moving back and forth. The owner came through, says that the open door is his office, reached past my wife and slammed the door, shoving her in the process. Culture starts at the top, and the rudeness, aggression, and ugly behavior obviously trickles down. We will not be returning, and we cannot recommend the Millside Cafe to anyone. read more

The food was adequate but the service was terrible. One of our friends asked to make sure there was no dairy i.e. milk, butter, heavy cream and the waitress assured us there was nothing that would bother her in the French toast. Once it was served to her she decided to ask again if there was dairy in the French toast. (Eggs are NOT dairy) We are not sure if it was the cook or the owner but a very rude man's response was quote "you Gotta be kidding me right" then raised his voice and said you should've said something when you ordered so my friend said I did say some thing when I ordered. He then raised his voice again and said who did you ask? We did not want to make a big scene so she ate the fruit and they kept making a huge deal about it it was very annoying. It turned which should've been a very lovely brunch into a totally awkward and unnecessary experience. We will not be back. read more

Had Saturday morning breakfast at the Cafe. The food was excellent. I had The Farmers Omelet was superb and the sides were ample and delicious. My wife and mother raved about the Florentine Poached Eggs and French Toast Monte Cristo. Some negatives: the restaurant was packed and loud. We could not carry on a conversation at the table. The two waitresses, one bus boy, and chef did all that they could to keep up, but they could not. Obviously, they were understaffed. It should not take over an hour to order and eat breakfast. Maybe it was just Saturday - and a nice weather day - I don't know. I will try this place again on a weekday morning and review again. read more

I stopped here on the way to the Poconos with my husband and our 2-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son. We ordered and waited for the food. The kids were a little antsy after sitting in the car for over an hour traveling from NYC. My husband took my 2-year-old outside so she could stretch her legs. After a few minutes, he took her back inside which made her upset and she started crying and throwing a tantrum. The tantrum at this point was going on for about two minutes when one of the waitresses came over to tell me that we have to take my daughter outside because apparently, the other patrons in the restaurant were complaining - amazing they were getting such terrible complaints from the four other people sitting in the restaurant immediately as the tantrum began. The waitress thought she was softening the blow by telling me she has three kids of her own. Any mother I know would have been mortified to tell another mother, to take her 2-year-old outside because grown adults couldn't handle a few minutes of crying. I took my son, met my husband and daughter outside, and left. We never plan on returning. My husband and I were already upset and embarrassed that my child was carrying on, as other parents can imagine. My husband was going to walk outside with our daughter before the worker came over but the audacity of this woman to treat people like this. Did Covid not exist in Lafayette, NJ? People are now adjusting to life outside of quarantine. Children are adjusting. The world is currently experiencing a mental health crisis. I think the behavior of this worker would be considered horrific at any time but in these times, I find it even more distressful and uncalled for. Obviously, I do not recommend this place for families with children. You may have to leave if your children can't sit quietly. read more

The food is great here. Where could use a little more work is the customer service. Ordering was okey. But I wasn't handed my check I wasn't told if i had to go to the counter or not. This is an updated review. I had previously written that this place can be disorganized with hours that are not terribly accommodating, and that being a cash-only business is quite inconvenient for patrons especially when the nearest ATM is a few minutes away by car. These things are more or less still true of course, but Millside Cafe is a cute little eatery that we really do enjoy. They offer outdoor seating, which is really nice. Their food is generally good, and their thanksgiving wrap is very delicious. The owner seems like a great guy. We will continue to frequent this establishment. Still, I would suggest getting a square reader, at least, for the phone in order to accept credit cards. It's a nominal fee per transaction. We would stop in more often if we didn't have to think about cash. read more

Love this little cafe! Remember to bring enough cash while antiquing to stop by for breakfast or lunch! They're always super accommodating to my many questions and vegan demands! This is our second visit to Millside Cafe. It's a cute little place. We arrived on a Sunday almost at closing time. The owner allowed us to come in but let us know (in not a very welcoming tone) that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. We placed our order as soon as we sat down - egg, toast and home fries, and one pancake, which was really delicious. Eggs and toast were good, fries were the last scrape of the day, but we can understand the kitchen was closing. My coffee was so good that I drank it without milk/cream (the server forgot to bring me any, lol). She was very nice, even though the staff was rushing to close. We will definitely return. The place serves very good food. Next time we'll make sure not to arrive so late. We thanked them for letting us come at almost closing time. read more

To often people complain based solely on a single experience. Everyone has a bad day. Today I was looking on yelp to find a place for a bite to eat with my husband and 2 year old. Yelp reviews would steer me away from this place, but we gave it a chance. The service was not nearly as poor as previous post suggest. It's a luncheonette, not a chain restaurant. The woman were friendly and accommodating. our waitress went out of her way to find a toy car for our impatient young boy. Which made our experience even better. (I wish I caught her name) Our food was good! I had a pastrami Reuben and my husband had the roast beef sandwich. Try the homemade lemonade! read more

Food was ok. Nothing special. We questioned our bill. We ordered 2 lunch specials and 2 chicken sandwich's. 2 waters and 2 iced teas. The bill came to $59.80. When we questioned this the waitress ringing us up was nasty and rude. She said it's farm to table what did we expect the prices to be. I stood there with a confused look on my face. I wasn't questioning the food or the prices but more the adding up of the check. I was told each lunch special was $10.99 and the chicken sandwich were $9.99 each. That comes to $42.00 so I'm guessing the 2 waters and 2 iced teas plus tax came to $18.00??? My husband tried calling the call dumped into a voicemail that was not set up. ** warning ** - don't eat here if you're really hungry. - expect a long wait for your food. I took my sister to this cafe to eat one afternoon. We walked in around 1:40pm, I wrote my name down after noticing there was a sign up sheet and we waited to be seated. Shortly after the waitress sat us and we waited patiently for the waitress to take our order. Twenty minutes or so passed and the waitress finally came over to us asking us what we wanted to drink. By then we already had enough time to decide what we wanted so we quickly ordered everything we wanted rather then our drinks first. ONE HOUR LATER, our food finally arrived. It was nothing extravagant, it was simply a turkey wrap, a burger, and onion soup, and two hot chocolates. During the time we waited(about 40 min in), my sister had to tell the waitress to at least give us the onion soup; so she did. By then. It was already 3pm and they were not longer accepting people to get in because they close 3. One of the waitress took my plate without me finishing my salad and said "we close at 3" I was planning on finishing my salad and her lack of manners made me feel unwelcome as if she was throwing me out. I didn't say anything; I avoided creating drama so we left. Also I noticed 16 tables, 2-5 people on each table, a lot to handle for two waitresses. A few people left because they were possibly waiting as long as we did. One guy even walked to the cashier as he was leaving and said "your service is horrible" I honestly don't understand why the wait was so long. I completely understand if it's a popular place like Serendipity in NYC, due to its location, the amount of people who walk in and their famous/delicious dishes they have but here in this small cafe on a small town off the road?!?! I just don't get it. I was so disappointed on this experience that I did not tip at all. I usually give 18% tips in any place I walk in and if the waitress/waiter is really nice to me, I usually tip 20% + but here, the service was just bad, I didn't even bother. My advice, if you're in rush, don't even walk in; it'll ruin your day. If you want a coffee, walk in and take it to go. Or simply drive on 15N for about 5 min so you can get your coffee in DD. read more

I have to say I don't get the other reviews. We've been here twice, both times on Sunday in the early afternoon and each time there was very small selection of "homebaked" goods that were sitting in loosely wrapped cellophane and just looked completely uninspiring. The cranberry muffin was dry and chalky and the chocolate chip cookie's dough was way undercooked and chewy, but not in a good way. My guess is that the cooked meals are better than something you can grab with a cup of coffee as you roam the beautiful stores in this historic town... I wouldn't try the stuff on the counter again, but again, I never ordered a meal here, just their "homebaked" selections. read more

A hidden treat. Surrounded by antique shops, this little gem fits right into the antique community in Lafayette. The prices are fair, the menu is simple and good. This is a great place for breakfast and lunch. For breakfast their choices of various pancakes always leaving me debating which one to try next. I'm a fan of their banana pancakes! For lunch i've had some of their toasted sandwiches. Excellent texture, not greasy, but crisp. Accompanied by a small side salad and chips, it wasn't too large a portion, and you leave feeling sated. The only negative comments I have, is the cafe only takes cash and the service can sometimes leave something to be desired. It really depends on your mind set. When i go here with a friend to chat and have a leisurely meal, then this is the perfect venue. If I need to be in/out the door for a quick lunch, I wouldn't suggest this location. read more

This place is carved right out of a local NJ history book! We love coming here. It's a rustic little cafe where you seat yourself, all the tables and chairs are antique and all different. We love to sit by the window looking down at the quick moving stream below. Friendly service, always the same women here. There's art for sale through out the eatery and I enjoy looking around at them. It's decorated just as an old county farm house would be. Everything about this place is peaceful and relaxing. You can see hints that at one time this place must have been a busy local store. The food is good, never had a complaint. We usually come here for breakfast, I love the fresh orange slices they add with my order of eggs. They sell fresh pies by the cashier too. CASH ONLY our first time here we had to leave and find an ATM On warm days, there's 3 tables out front and if you're lucky you can sit outside for breakfast or lunch. And you're surrounded by antique dealers that you can just walk to in any direction. We drive over an hour one way just to come up here to relax with some good food surrounded by nature, friendly people and antique treasures. read more
