Okay! The frose is amazing , haven't tried the food yet but neighboring tables food looked amazing and delicious. 3 stars because we initially came here for drinks and wanted to sit at the bar. There were a few scattered chairs open and when we decided to sit down where there were two seats open the bar tender rudely told us that they were taken. Even though there were no drinks there or things of people who supposedly occupied these chairs. They need to revise their personnel and replace this rude young bartender . I will be back for a dinner experience soon just to try the food which looked pretty good. read more

We got there around 5 pm on a Saturday, and it was pretty busy but my wife and I got a table for two right away. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I had the Hither Creek Tacos (Grilled Rockfish w/ corn tortillas) which came with a Rice Salad. Both were absolutely delicious, lots of fresh grilled fish met with a creamy lime sauce, avacado slice, and fresh cilantro! The chips and queso...nice! The chips were warm and crispy and the queso smooth but cheesy. I think you should get a bit more queso for the price you pay though (we still had chips leftover after we finished the cheese. And the margaritas that we ordered were $13 each, too expensive! Mind you, it was probably the best Margarita I've had in years. We'll be back. read more

Cute space but extremely loud. The design of the restaurant did not account for sound issues at all. I went with my uncle for lunch, and we sat in the quietest spot we could find. He has trouble hearing (but wears hearing aids to help correct this), and it was very frustrating for both of us to carry on a conversation. This was just at lunch on a weekday, so I cannot imagine how it must be in the evening. The servers seemed sort of clueless, pleasant but not well-trained. The frose was great. My lobster quesadilla was good but not anything I need to have again. The menu is sort of annoying... Baja style food at a New England style restaurant? It is one thing to do that *in New England* but why make it so confusing and disjointed in another location? This was a great opportunity for a New England style seafood restaurant, and they went with an overabundance of quesadillas and tacos. I hope over time they veer more toward a solid NE seafood focus... a raw bar would be nice. The prices seem unnecessarily steep. I may return to sit outside for a frose, but it's not the enticing Spring Valley addition for which I had hoped. Do get the frose; that concoction was delicious. read more

We were at our table 15-20 minutes and no waiter to be seen. We tracked down someone to ask about who our waiter was. A very overwhelmed person showed up apologizing and said he'd make it up to us. We weren't asking for any make up, but we were hungry and wanted to order. So we ordered a wine and beer, and an appetizer and 2 entrees. The wine and beer showed up, but no appetizers. Then around 15 minutes later the entrees showed up. No appetizer. No waiter. So we ate our meal discussing how bad the service is at the place. At the end of our meal, the waiter shows up to pour more water. Where was he during the meal? We told him that the appetizer never showed up. He never said a word. Disappeared again.?? REALLY? I am happy that this restaurant seems to be doing a great happy hour with the American U students and clearly it was a sorely needed place. BUT, if they want locals to dine here, they need to up the service. read more

A friend who lives in the neighborhood recommends we try this place. I'm so glad we came--the food and atmosphere were both amazing! We were a group of four and shared the smoked fish pate, guacamole, and dumplings for appetizers. Everything was delicious, but the pate was definitely the star, especially on top of all the fresh summer crudités! For my main, I had the blackened salmon salad. The salmon itself was a little too salty, but other than that, it was a hearty and yummy entree. My friends got the scallop tacos and chicken quesadilla, which they also enjoyed (the scallops were HUGE). I wish we could have sat on the patio, but the inside of the restaurant was also nice. I live not far from millie's in spring valley. If i has the ability to give the crap-whole zero stars, I would. First off, the staff is rude, they were short with me and had the audacity to roll their eyes. Second, I went to order my appetizer, I decided upon the smoked bluefish plate, as unappetizing as it sounds. what I was unprepared for was the sickening rotting fish smell which was wafting from my plate, i nearly vomited on sight. the smell really enveloped my lungs and made me feel nauseous. within my first bite I could feel my bowls rejecting the food. i decided to traverse on in my journey for edible food, when I decided to purchase the 40th pole quesadillas, this really set my fate in the bathroom for the rest of the night. the food went down pretty fine at first, until the eruption occurred. i desperately stumbled out of my seat and to the bathroom. Diarrhea poured out of my asshole, as i vomited repeatedly. in the fight between the food and my digestion system, the food won. i cried as my asshole continued to reject the food. i plan to NEVER return to this cursed restaurant again. Do not go to Millie's! Absolutely horrible ! We had a question on the menu and the manager, Mark Lichtman, asked us if we could read and asked us to leave! Unbelievable! We have lived inSpring Valley for twenty years, never experienced such meanness and hatred---I had Jean shorts on, though, and I think we did not measure up to Cape and Nantucket people. We own a home on the Cape, and the people that work on Cape would never ever treat customers as we have been treated. Not too mention our food was not that good and had so many fillers in them( to make them cheaper) they were not worth eating. Let me start by saying if you are looking for a place where children are welcome, then by all means, come to Millie's but make sure you have plenty of cash/or a high credit card limit. On a recent Friday night, our group decided to try Millie's because of the then, overwhelming positive Yelp reviews. Sadly our experience did not reflect the glowing praises that had been recorded. First and foremost, Millie's is LOUD! Second, the service ranges from mediocre to downright dreadful. While our waitperson was pleasant, he seemed overwhelmed. It took almost 20 minutes to get our drink orders (which were correct) and even longer for him to take our order. When our food finally arrived, some the orders were wrong.t Therein, part of the reason for the one star review. Aside from the overpriced entrees, and $ 6 sides, the food was mediocre and not hot. In one case, a simple order was screwed up multiple times (I can't be sure, but I suspect the problem meal was sent back to the kitchen, not even re-plated and reserved. Then there was the case of the missing order-what should have taken a mere 15-20 minutes to cook, took over an hour, and that is after no less than two managers, multiple requests to our ever disappearing wait person and threats to leave, did the missing order appear after the rest of the party had completed our meals. At no time, were we offered an apology, the missing meal (which finally came) comped or any attempt to appease our disappointment. If Millie's is going to become a neighborhood go to eat, dinning experience, than the management needs to change their ways-hire more staff (including more than one bartender on weekends), take a serious look at the prices being charged, improve the kitchen and therefore the meals and consider making some small acoustic changes to dampen the sound level. The noise level inside was actually higher than outside with traffic. One positive, while I did not have ice cream, apparently some of my group did and it was okay. read more

This is basically a sandwich shop that serves tacos and quesadillas rather than sandwiches trying to pass itself off as a legitimate sit down restaurant. While the food is fine, the setting is underwhelming. The open air concept is good, but the menu (and prices) suggest this is a nice place to have an evening out with friends. The reality is that once you leave the bar area the seating is on picnic tables with an ice cream window less than 20 feet away. It is very family friendly which is great for families on a summer night that want ice cream but bad for actual diners as kids are allowed to run throughout the outdoor area. We even had two kids on scooters weave between us and the table behind us. I would expect better when the tab was over $100 for three of us (admittedly, there were 5 drinks on the tab). In addition, the service was very slow. On a positive note, the craft beer selection was good as was the queso; however, $9 for quest and A basket of chips (correct, nothing complementary) when the menu is dominated by tacos and quesadillas seems extremely expensive. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We'd probably return for a lunch (maybe) but this doesn't qualify as a location to spend an evening. read more

my group and i stayed relatively late and didn't realize we were some of the last people there but got cussed at by a bar employee to leave. he told us multiple times to go home as we were leaving. my friend made a joke about taking back the tip since we were basically being kicked out and he said "suck my dick." the closing managers were sitting right there, watching the whole thing, not saying a thing. i get the frustration because i work in the industry but that was really pushing it. the managers sitting by and doing nothing made it worse. we would never treat any patrons this way where i work. maybe be a little more respectful next time. read more

I've heard Millie's restaurant is excellent. That may be true, but this is a review of their ice cream window. It's awful. Just terrible. The staff hasn't been trained adequately, so the entire experience is a terrible mess. We spent about $25 for 4 people to be served extremely meager portions of ice cream topped with still-solid "hot fudge". The meager portions were a result of the staff's inability to scoop the ice cream. I wish this was a joke, but it's not. They're overwhelmed, poorly trained, and just don't care if the customers receive awful service, because all they're doing is trying to survive. The main restaurant may be great and after a lot more training the ice cream may be worth another try, but until then AVOID, AVOID, AVOID Millie's ice cream window. read more

Dinner service was pretty bad. I want to be nice: waitress was a sweetheart, and food was pretty good. Good selection of drinks and wine. And I want to cut all restaurants a break during these tough times. But... we sit. (Oh by the way, they tell us the table is only for 75 minutes. That can't be serious.) We order drinks. 15 minutes after arrival we get the drinks, and decide to order (big mistake). Even though we got a number of "appetizers for the table", within 5 minutes every single thing we ordered (except, funny enough, those apps) was on the table. You can't make it up. I was just starting my cocktail, and I was handed my entree, and the soup I ordered as my own appetizer. Same for others. I basically chugged my soup to prevent my rice dish from getting too cold. The waitress told us "yeah sometimes this happens when we're busy." Okay... I hear there's a good bar scene when things are normal so maybe this is better for that. read more

I love the decor, reminiscent of Cape Cod, meal-by-the-sea type of place. The food is perfect: I've had the fish tacos, the lobster roll and one of their vegetarian quesadillas. The drinks are cute (but weak). The service is fast! Parking lot in the back. Waiters and waitresses are super nice. Prices are reasonable. I go when they first open. Hot new place. Bo Blair has the Midas touch! Although you are in a strip mall next to crate and barrel and nowhere near water, Millie's transports you to New England coast without the view. Think upper crust Nantucket. This hot new seafood spot has been open just 3 months. The vibe is preppy, collegiate and nautical. Driftwood walls and bar stools. It was a beautiful day so the rolltop doors were wide open. It was packed outside. Sat at the bar. I ordered the soft shell crabs which had a Mediterranean flair as they came served with pungent and delicious capers. Also had to try the blue crab fried rice which was very tasty. ( I would probably up the price $4 and garnish with a visible ounce of jumbo lump --I am a crab snob see Carpenter street bar in Saint Michael's --best crab cake and worth drive). Anyway, back to Millie's, my friend thought the margaritas were on point and I had a great local porter from DC Brau. The staff really looked like they enjoyed themselves. Clearly the bartender had been doing this for more than three months. She was awesome. The outside had an old school ice cream stand. Very family friendly place, like a country club. It was cute to see all the nautical outfits on the kids. This is located in an expensive neighborhood and the families do dress to impress. Life is too short for bad food. Ordered an over-priced Bloody Mary and the rockfish tacos. The drink arrived with a slice of lime, a slice of lemon, and okra and olives on a spear. Had to request a plate so I had a place to put the garnishes before I could drink it. The tacos arrived soggy and covered in a corn salad which made the dish even soggier. SInce it was served with rice salad the corn salad was overkill and made the tacos a mess to eat. The server neglected to inform us about the available combination menu which we only found out about when it was explained in detail to diners at the next table who arrived after us. This is a great, fun addition to the D.C. restaurant scene. Great food that appeals to all age groups. I had the NY strip - a great value and the portions are generous. Love the Nantucket theme. On a nice day, the outdoor seating is fantastic. The bar area can be loud and crowded, but that is a testimony to the popularity of this new place. The food here is good--tacos and salads with nicely flavored, fresh fish and chicken options. I had the mahi mahi tacos: the fish was fantastic, a bit spicy which was nice, but I wasn't a fan of the tortilla or large avocado slice sitting on top. The pineapple salsa was very good and complimented the fish really well! Others in my party had salads (which they said were about average, though large portioned) and chicken tacos. The prices are too high--in what world should you get 2 tacos for $16? However, the service was great, and the atmosphere is really delightful. On a warm evening, the huge windows and plethora of outdoor seating is really appealing. Every seat was packed! There's also great ice cream out of a takeout window outside. I went to Millie's last night after a friend suggested you all had good food. We walked in and the greeters were nice. Our waiter, a girl with brown hair, served our table. She was nice a reviewed the drink menu for us, however, she seemed exasperated. She kept rushing us on what to eat and drink. Usually, when I got to restaurants they let you enjoy the ambiance and your company. I felt as though she was rushing us to the point I was at a fast food restaurant. I got the caesar with shrimp and it was good, but I think I got a bad batch cause I was violently ill. The chips and guacamole were subpar- the guacamole was chunky and not smooth and the chips were half warm. read more
