Love Millie's and have been going here for years, with my kids, to meet friends, to celebrate birthdays. The food is good - love the poke and you really can't go wrong with any of the tacos, quesadillas or salads. One note - servings are getting smaller and smaller. Really, Millie's could do better. But service is always great, mostly by friendly college kids. Generous pours, local crowd (mostly), and I guess if you can't be in Nantucket, this isn't all that bad a substitute. Had a beautiful Sunday Father's Day brunch with my daughter at Millie's, which came highly recommended. We walked from American University and were seated promptly despite not having a recommendation - we wanted to sit inside, and that worked well; there was a wait for the beautiful outdoor seating area. Our server was polite and quick, and got us drinks and the biscuits almost immediately. The Bloody Mary was flavorful and not overdone, and I was impressed with the local options on the beer list. The food was delicious. I followed the recommendation and had the delicious huevos rancheros, which were to die for. My daughter went with the lobster benedict and couldn't have been more pleased. Millie's was a great restaurant! Even after happy hour, it was packed which is always a good sign. We started with a Froze while waiting for outdoor seating. They were cool and refreshing and probably the best Froze i've has in a while. The only downside was the heat and bugs , it would've been great if they had fans or some kind of bug repellent to make it more comfortable. Now, let's get into the food: We began with the chips and trio dip (guac, queso, and salsa) simple, fresh, and delicious. It was the perfect starter to snack on while we waited. The quesadilla had zucchini in it, which was a refreshing twist. It was flavorful, filling, and a great way to sneak in some veggies. My friend loved it!The elote was creamy and well-seasoned I could've done without the nuts or seeds on top, but I'd still order it again without it. The dish just overall lacked the depth of flavor but I guess it's expected from a place that doesn't specialize in an Asian dish. The quesadillas were decent but nothing worth revisiting. This was our first visit to Millie's. We stopped in for a very late lunch. My husband ordered the Cisco Po' Boy (very, very good) and I ordered the grilled lamb kabob (very good). The shrimp on the po'boy were very large and fresh and though the bun looked like it would be too much bread, it really was not. It was very light. I've been to Millie's many times. The food is always good. Also, in these expensive times, there are reasonable options for a restaurant with great ambience. I almost always order tacos at Millie's. This time it was steak tacos, made with flour tortillas, marinated steak, fries, aoli and lemon parsley. There was so much food I could only eat one taco and will eat the second one for lunch today. All of Millie's taco plates are in the $20-22 range. That's more than a casual taco place would charge but given the ambiance and portion size, I thought it was a deal. My husband ordered the rockfish and liked it a lot. For an appetizer we split the calamari. It was perfectly cooked. The coating excellent except that, to my taste, it was too salty. Finally got myself to Millie's after thinking about it the entire summer. Was surprised to see the outside patio bumping after a day of rain. Thursday nights are still thirsty I guess. Looked like a great spot for the slightly older crowd to hit for some social drinks. Inside, there were a lot more families dining. It was a lot quieter and easy to have a conversation. Still, plenty of large tables for groups, and smaller tables for date night. My boyfriend got the clam chowder to start, and we split the fried zucchini. It was delicious! I came here to watch the US Open. The atmosphere attracts sports fans and families inside and outside on the spacious patio. You can tell this is a big neighborhood spot. The bar area only has two TVs, so it was split between tennis and a football game. Millies made their own Honey Deuce drink that fans were getting at the US Open. I have no idea how it compares to the actual one, but it was very good, sweet, and pretty looking! Lots of seafood options to choose from on the menu. I decided to take mine in the form of a taco, the Esther Island. The scallops and rest of the filling were delicious. I could only finish the two tacos and had to box up the rice salad, which was also very good. There was a little bit of a delay in getting my food even though I ordered quickly. I don't know if there was some confusion amongst servers. Still worth the wait though! This is really ideal for a casual hangout spot with friends or family, but I can tell it can get pretty busy. Tried Milies for the first time recently! It can be hard to get a reservation here so definitely plan ahead! We wanted to sit outside, but for weeks out there were only options to sit inside. Not sure if this is on purpose or if they are truly booked, but when we showed up there was definitely outdoor availability. Our server was very sweet, and our food came out quickly! I love when a menu has a "mock tail" section and the group loved their Manhattan Berry and their Havana Twist. The frose was also a table fav! We started with some gigantic oysters, and almost the entire table ordered the cliff road salad. It was pretty good - you got a large portion of salmon on top, and the salad was huge, but it wasn't anything to write home about, it reminded me of a grocery store bagged salad a bit. My friend really enjoyed the crab fried rice, and the chili lime sauce on the side was delish! Overall, it was more of a vibe outside I wish I could go back and sit there. Decided on the Salmon salad and fried Brussel sprouts. I have a shellfish allergy and My server Kelly came after my food was delivered to say, my food was cooked where shellfish was being prepared. Had heard great things about this place and it seemed like a perfect midpoint between my Bethesda and my friend's Arlington home. It was a gorgeous day and we sat outside at a hightop table. Service started out slow and got slower. Our waiter (who didn't have a name tag and or introduce herself so I have no idea what her/their name is) took our drink, appetizer and main dish orders and literally "left the building," without saying goodbye. After we got our appetizers, we waited, waited and waited some more for our entrees. Others around us were eating, finishing their meals and leaving and we were still waiting to be served. After what seemed like an eternity (we arrived at 3 and it was 4:40) I asked a busboy for our waiter, and no one came. I caught the eye of nearby waiter Niki and when I asked for our wait person she shared that their shift had ended and that they were gone for the day. It was news to us and no one took over to help us when they left. So unacceptable. I asked for the manager, our meals mysteriously appeared and Duncan came over. Manager Duncan apologized profusely for the big lapse in service and offered to comp the food we had not received before we expressed concern. An interesting suggestion to cover what we were still waiting for. To make matters worse, my friend ordered a ginger sangria from the happy-hour menu from Duncan and when I asked for the same drink from Niki she told us that the ginger sangria was not actually being served yet. On the menu and not a real option. What? My friend was served the summer sangria assuming it was ginger. When we asked Duncan about the ginger one she ordered, he again apologized and said that he'd made a mistake--that it wasn't available. At this point we were truly perplexed. The swordfish kabob was tasty and the goddess sauce had a nice little kick. The duck lettuce wraps were not actually wraps as described on the menu but a salad w marinated duck pieces tossed in. Although flavorful, the duck meat was tough (overcooked). The shrimp mango salad was mediocre (the salad greens used were bitter and I could not taste the Asian dressing) the mahi mahi and the steak tacos were both dry. My friend and I will need to find another meeting spot. We were charged for the food and drink that had arrived before we complained. Maybe it was an off day.
