Birria tacos: Pretty good overall (3 total) but the consome was bland IMO. Enchilada w/ chicken: It came out cold but was eaten. Good flavor and big portion. Steak tacos: These were enjoyed and the rice & beans were tasty. Chips and salsa trio: Tricolor chips which is a nice touch. The green salad was my favorite. There is a chili crisp "salsa" that is very similar to Chinese chili crisp sauce. This was unexpected and interesting, but I prefer the classic green salsa. Churros: Crispy, fluffy, and sweet. These were really good. The chocolate sauce really enhanced the experience as well. We also really enjoyed our spicy palomas, draft beers, and G&T's. Wanted to like it so much but it was pretty bad. 1. The food was almost inedible in how greasy it was. The beef tacos and the fish in the fish tacos. 2. Flavorless. How is Mexican food flavorless? Good question but season was highly lacking. Especially on the fish and in the huevos rancheros. 3. The price. I get that the price of things are high. But $15 street corn? The steak meat was deliciously tender and the fish tacos' had a nice slaw that added a nice counterpoint to the heavier fish, rice and beans. We also ordered a couple of drinks. Not bad, but definitely some room for improvement. I went here for a date night with my wife and was excited to try it. Their menu looked awesome on paper and I had walked by a few times and always noticed a decent crowd inside. The drinks and food were definitely on the pricier side for Mexican food, and the steak tacos were under-seasoned and seemed to be on store-bought corn tortillas. My partner had the whole fish, which she said was quite good, so maybe the steak tacos were not representative of the quality of the rest of their menu. The quality of food alone should make you come here. Their service is the second reason you should come, as they're extremely efficient & friendly. Loved their decor. It has a warm style to it with Mexican touches you'd expect with hanging lanterns & terracotta plants throughout the space which makes it very calm & inviting. It is small & intimate, I would not recommend this for groups larger than 4 people. I had their passionfruit margarita which was so delicious, my husband almost drank it all (he's not into drinks like that but clearly made an exception here). I had their steak tacos which were marinated perfectly & were so tender. My husband had their Mexican fajita which was one of the best things I'd sampled. It is not your typical Tex-Mex American style, it's much better. It had so much flavor with a Smokey finish I almost ordered another one for us to take home. We were so full we didn't make space for dessert, but from the looks of things we missed out on that because what they were serving to all of the other restaurant goers looks delectable. I visited Muchas Gracias with a friend after work one day and was very happy with my experience. First off, the margaritas are fresh, well balanced and sooo good. I liked them so much I ended up having 3! I also got their spicy rim on the glass and it was so well decorated and so tasty. I loved it! For food, I had their guac which hit the spot! I also had their burrito with short rib birria. This is typically a lunch item but they kindly let me order it for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the good customer service. When I arrived, my party had the place to ourselves but by the time we left, every table was filled. The restaurant is pretty small but packs a good amount of tables. There's also a parking lot in the back so you don't have to worry about parking. I do recommend visiting! Enjoy! read more

Love the salsas with the chips, not your typical salsas so that was fun. Loved the chicken mole enchiladas, simple but really good. You gotta try the plantains, they are sweet plantains served with a crema sauce and some sort of chocolate-y sauce, not really mole but super good, the combo of it all was awesome and different. The fish tacos were good but a bit boring, needed something more jazzy in my opinion, still good though! Loved the mushrooms & cactus served with the fundido. Everything was just really great, I totally recommend coming here just for the cocktails but also for a relaxed dinner atmosphere with upscale food. We are not Mexican and we also know that Mexicans don't really celebrate cinco de mayo. But we wanted to go out on a date night and it was May 5th so why not Mexican. Anyway a Mexican friend of ours recommended this place, but we could not get reservations on line or when we called. We finally decided on another restaurant, but on our way decided to swing by and see if there was any walk-in available. Sure enough we got in. The place is tiny inside with some additional tables out front and in the back parking lot. The place is decorated very basic. However the food was fantastic. Everything was of course gluten free. The guacamole was fresh and delicious and the chips were also thin, fresh and made in-house. We then ordered a chard sweet potato which came with tortillas, a mole dip, and another one that I am not sure what it was but had a little spice to it. the mole was the standout here, but the dish as a whole was awesome. We then shared the enchilada special which again was just great. And finally finished with the Grilled sunfish tacos. I had never had sunfish and this was just wonderful. Of course we had some margaritas to compliment our meal. When it comes to Mexican food, this is the best of what we have seen in DC in a while. I regret that I had a bad experience with customer service at Muchas Gracias. I love supporting local/small businesses, especially those with values that align to mine. The bad service I experienced at Muchas Gracias was disappointing and a huge let down. My significant other called the restaurant to verify protocol (no restaurant service at lunchtime as of 5/7/21) and was told to put an online order in for pick up and to note that we were sitting in the back seating area/back patio. The receipt also provided instructions to pick up online orders at the back patio. So we waited and waited. No one ever came out. We called at the time that our order was estimated to be ready, and the individual who answered the phone was abrupt and rude, said he's working on it, and hung up without a chance to communicate further. We further waited and waited nearly 20 mins and no one came out back with our order. My SO finally walked around to the front of the restaurant and asked about our order at which point the staff member working, same guy that answered the phone was nonchalant and said that our order was sitting there waiting for us. It was incredibly frustrating. By the time we actually got the food, it was cold. The food was okay but probably would've been better actually hot! - Short rib birria taco: Good and tender but SUPER greasy. My taco was full of grease that just dripped everywhere. - Hongos y Nopales/Mushroom Cactus taco: Good vegetarian option. - Charred Sweet Potato: I liked this one the most because of the flavor of the sweet potato, but I almost would've enjoyed it more as a side without the taco because it was a bit plain/dry/needed a tad bit more sauce. - Chips & Salsa: need more salsa! Chips were plain/needed salt! The Bobby Loves Mango cocktail was super tasty. Maybe I'll come back when restaurant service fully resumes, but honestly the bad service was a huge turnoff. I enjoy the ambience and the service at Muchas Gracias (have been several times.) Unfortunately, they have removed the front outdoor seating, which was part of the charm. I do not think I will be returning, however, because of the price. The food is decent and I enjoy their margaritas. But yesterday, I paid over $100 (including 20% tip) for two entrees (mole and shrimp tacos), a $12 basket of chips and salsa (with clearly store-bought chips) and two sodas. The prices seem a bit steep in comparison to the quality of the food. Might return for margs or drinks again but will not be dining. read more

It's amazing how much Muchas Gracias has packed into its narrow dining room. The restaurant was fully booked on an early Saturday evening. It has a small bar area, a long dining room, and outdoor seating in a back patio. While the restaurant was crowded, the food and service were superb. The restaurant elevates Mexican cuisine that feels both familiar and yet unexpected. We tried the crab avocado salad (loved it), grilled steak, and enchiladas with mole. All dishes were delicious and the margarita was also a hit. Needless to say, reservations are recommended. read more

There is no need (and dare I even say a sin) to put dill in guacamole. The salsas were mediocre. The quesa birria wasn't bad--the short rib was cooked really well and was very tender (probably a 3.8/5), but it's not as good as other restaurants, like Cielo Rojo. The kids' cheese quesadilla was just sad looking, with no color whatsoever on the tortilla. The margarita was mediocre as well; the salt on the rim was better tasting than the drink itself. It's an okay place and probably good enough for the folks who live within walking distance, but I wouldn't cross town for this. I'd give this a 3.5/5 overall. read more

Randomly tried this spot on a Thursday night when in the area and the experience was surprisingly mediocre. The establishment itself is charming and cosy, but the food was lacking flavor. First the trio of salsas felt expensive for 2 salsas and a chili oil dip, and the chips were stale. Then the street corn plate was lacking flavor (odd considering the chunks of hot pepper scattered throughout) and tasted more like canned creamed corn than a spin on elote, The corn also came with another serving of stale chips. The queso fundito was decent but the chorizo texture was mushy and had little spice. The entree of chicken tinga tacos was just fine, with the most flavor of the night coming from the side of rice which, while flavored well, was gummy. Compared to other similar restaurants in the area, the food was bland enough that both my date and I didn't finish the meal. The service was just fine. We shared a salad that had honey roasted acorn squash, greens, crispy onion, burrata, pumpkin seed, in an orange sherry dressing. Just a beautiful blend of flavors and textures. Our entree was carnitas tacos. We chose flour tortillas. The pork was braised until if fell apart, and was flavored in a garlic fat broth, with a hint of citrus. Pickled onions came on the side.
