Delicious authentic Mexican tacos and cemitas (sandwich) ! I tried four different tacos carne asada, chicken, barbacoa, and carnitas. All of them were incredible, I particularly liked the Carne Asada and Carnitas as they were crispy crunchy small pieces of tender meat that were super delicious. The salsas that came with the tacos were super delicious as well and had a nice punch to them. I also ordered the Carne Asada Cemita, which had a delicious crunch of lettuce, fresh avocado, fresh serving of meat and a nicely toasted bun with a side of salsa verde. The gentleman who owns the place is very accommodating, and very friendly. I recommended to him to consider making burritos as the combination of their delicious meats, coupled with their fresh vegetables, would make an awesome new to go option. There is a counter to eat, if you would like to have the fresh food right on the spot. This place has by far the most authentic Mexican tacos in the DC area, a competition for DC's best Mexican food must include this place.

Nicely renovated the former Guajillo Chalateco into a cleaner and fresher space. Menu a little more limited than your typical taqueria, but they more than make up for it with quality food. Fresh, hand made tortillas I watched them press before going on the comal, nicely stuffed with excellent lamb barbacoa and accompanied with a shimmering dark red salsa that was smoky and spicy. Spanish rice was arguably the best I've had in town - neck and neck with Mezcalero, as well as excellent refried black beans. Come show them some love. Good food made with care, all you could ask for from a neighborhood taco joint.

Carne Asada tacos were tasty and the cilantro was fresh. It was ready fast but still hot when I got there. I'll be back to try the lamb.

Had a great time and dinner! Chicatana is unassuming and unpretentious, staffed with attentive…read moreservers who do an amazing job (water was always filled and empty plates removed quite efficiently). The decor is simple, no table clothes or frills but it does live up to 'fine cuisine' with excellent food and presentation (another subtle touch is if you leave the table, you return to a nicely folded napkin). We got nearly everything on the menu including all the desserts and Mexican hot chocolate (yum, lightly spicy and piping hot!) . As others have said their guacamole is excellent...do check the charges though bc they added salsa and chips to the tab which we did not order (they removed). Also, the first order of guac came with big bowl of chips, but none with the second order of guac- not a problem though because you do not go hungry. Portions are quite generous. We even tried the ants which was a fun novelty

After parking in the Giant parking garage (decent price), we walked the few blocks to the restaurant. We spotted it with the poster sign hanging up on the outer walls. Inside you head up the stairs and you're greeted by the host stand. We checked in and got our table, right at the window (hellya). There was a rose and a candle on the table (vday vibes) and we also received a vday specials menu. We landed on queso fundido to start and a cocktail each: prickly pear marg for her, a viva mexico for me. After fundido'ing it up, we ordered our entrees. We're simple folks it was a 2 carne asada tacos, 1 al pastor taco, 1 pescado taco, and 1 chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately we weren't bold enough to try the insectos. Food was great, drinks were great, service was great. You can pay your tab via Toast for no additional fee which was convenient. There are two, single use bathrooms in there too. Overall, solid spot.

Every component is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. I did really want to try their breakfast burrito and was sad (& surprised) they aren't open for breakfast on Mondays, because online it says they are. Anyways, we got there right when they opened for dinner and others clearly had the same idea. You order inside at the counter, sit and they bring you your food. Our food did take awhile to come out though, and we were giving the tables around us side eye for getting their food before us. We devoured our chips and salsa in the meantime. All 3 salsas are amazing and worth getting! They went great on the burrito too. Matcha horchata and Arnold Palmer were refreshing, and I appreciate the more inventive drinks than your standard taqueria. And now onto the main event... THE California burrito. Man, it made me happy to be alive. We sat on the patio and it was lovely, and shaded by the umbrellas.
