I had an Tempstar Gas Pack installed in July 2018 By Miller Heating & Cooling in Holly Ridge/Sneads Ferry NC and month later the Humidity in the house was still over 80%. The Owner and technicians are friendly, but the Tempstar Gas Pack just sucks this time. Since then I have Encapsulated under my home (9K), replaced 95% of the carpet in my Home with waterproof Commercial LVT Flooring (7K), and I had to have my entire home inside painted (4K) because of the mold inside my home at every vent and in my textured ceiling. My wife had cleaned the mold off the walls until the sheet rock paper has shown thru. The Encapsulation and carpet was at the recommendation of the Miller Heating & Cooling Technicians. The Tempstar Factory Technician from SC has been to my home and he still blamed my home to be the cause of the problem. In 2000 Miller Heating & Cooling installed the same type unit at my home and I had no major problems with Humidity whatsoever for 19 years. My home is 1860 sq ft, which requires a 3-ton unit, which I have, the 16 in duct feeding the house has been replaced twice because the walls of the duct fill up with water. I have had a Heet Study preformed by Miller Heating & Cooling and the results were that I only needed a 2-ton unit. WTF????????
In the 3 years my wife and I have called over 80 times, sent over 60 emails (all documented with phone records and copies of emails) to Miller Heating & Cooling and they are slow to respond or they choose not to respond. It seems to me if there is a major technical problem with a newly installed unit the Miller Heating & Cooling Technicians are not trained on how to solve it. The Technician recommendations (encapsulation and carpet) of 16K did not solve any of my Humidity issues with my home. It is now 22 August 2021 and the humidity this morning is 72% (my thermostat in the house is set on 40%).
I have always believed in supporting small business, but I will have to be way more cautious of any future support of small businesses because of my dealings in the past 3 years. I mistakenly took friendly instead of knowledgeable and competent.
Notes:
1) My AC went out after hours on a Friday and I called Saturday morning to get someone out here to fix it. The Technician came and discovered that when the new unit was installed in July 2018 the Gas Pack insulation crew had damaged the wire to the thermostat inside my home causing the problem. The Technician used automotive type connectors to splice the 23GA wire to the 18 GA wire, covered the splices with heat shrink, and did some wrapping with some electrical tape. None of the materials used were waterproof. It was in my opinion a fast half ass job and all thrown under the unit to get wet another day. I called the owner of Miller Heating & Cooling on Monday and ask him about charging me for the damage his crew did to the wire and he said his crew has to get paid. I ask about having the wire from my unit to my Thermostat replaced and to this day I have not heard from Miller Heating & Cooling.
2) The Fan speed to my unit was increased and no change to Humidity in my home.
3) The 16-inch ducts that were filled with water were replaced and no change to the Humidity in my home.
4) The Tempstar Factory Technician from SC was borderline belligerent with me as I tried to explain to him that I had no problems for 19 years until I replaced the Unit. He was an ass and if I did not need him there to help Miller Heating & Cooling I would of kicked him off my property and told him never to return.
In conclusion:
1) To anyone, I would recommend that if you are having new unit problems keep good notes and copies of everything because you will probably need them.
2) Do not trust friendly with knowledgeable and competent.
